"Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers"... love that line!

The only bad thing about Tool is you can't hear them for the first time again

They are the best band of my lifetime, no one compares. They have no bad songs. Their entire disography are back to back hits. Watch "Pneuma", Vic Firth cameras, you'll be blown away. #Toolforever

Here for your Tool journey! A few suggestions:
    - Don't watch official videos on first listen (they're amazing, but very distracting for a first listen)
    - Have lyrics pulled up (either separately, or find a song vid w lyrics)
    - Certain songs should be experienced together, e.g. Parabol and Parabola, with no break between... if a commenter suggests that, heed their advice
    - You are in for one helluva ride... buckle in, and spiral out!

I think one thing that Tool fans really appreciate, and that you picked up on right away, is their attention to detail and intention. They take their songcrafting and musicianship seriously and it shows. Plus you're correct in your observation that Maynard is a real poet with his lyrics. Did you know the rest of the band writes all the music and then send it to him to add lyrics at the end - it's a pretty amazing creative process. ❤
You've got to check out the live Pneuma drum cam of Danny Carey, plus I think you'll love Right in Two, the Grudge, Vicarious and definitely Lateralus.
Oh do the Sober live from 93!

The videos are made by the guitar player, Adam Jones. Before TOOL he was a Hollywood special effects artist. He did Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, Ghostbusters and other popular films.

I believe this song was about the relationship of the band mates to each other at a time when they were struggling to stay together. However, most Tool songs are very metaphorical and open to your own personal experiences.

I think drum and bass, especially the really good classic stuff (Metalheads, Creative Source, etc.), some of the more novel stuff from the 2010's period (Loxy, Mortem, Instra:mental, Sabre, etc.) and the new stuff like ASC's Spatial and Auxilliary labels or Blocks and Escher's Narratives label - I think that's where electronic music starts punching up to the weight of live genres.

I absolutely love a lot of rap and hip hop. But Tool is by far my favorite band. There’s nothing like artists who know how to pick up their axes and chop some wood.

Give Tool - Invincible a go, it's wicked complex and intense. A lot of people will recommend the drum cam version of Tool Pneuma, and you should definitely check that out but that's like the end game, that is their crowning jewel and something I honestly think you should kind of work your way up to and not just start there. One last thing, most bands have a lead singer that the band rallies around, tool has a lead drummer that the band rallies around, food for thought

I was watching Drumeo here on UA-cam, and they had this jazz musician attempt to come up with his interpretation of this songs drumming.
Oh yeah... did I mention that they made him listen to a drum-less track first. 😅
It turned out great though. 😊

Yeah, that was Dennis Chambers. He is an incredible drummer but just different style. They ran into each other at an event and started talking about the video and became friends.

Your on point with Tool. It’s open to interpretation. Please more Tool, but NOT their videos (except for sober live)

Your 1st listen deserves to be Studio Audio ONLY, the way the band intended it to be consumed. Their videos, while great in their own right, have little to nothing to do with the song as your listening. Tool videos are very distracting to what's going on musically when it's your 1st, or even 5th listen for that matter! Subscribed for more Tool, looking forward to it!

Oh I think Im gonna love you Laddie! Your SO SMART! And IRISH! You will "GET TOOL" they are possibly the most brilliant band out there! NO>NO......dont do the music videos!! SERIOUSLY, too distracting for a 1st listen. Bcuz my new friend there is SOO much yul miss in the music n lyrics yr senses cant handle all of it. U wanna think?? U found the band u will become obsessed with! Fair warning tho, u might become spoiled after hearing their self reflecting lyrics about consciousness and improoving your outlook on life. To the complex structuring and placement of the sounds n instruments (bcuz yr right.Every sound is strategically placed) to the genius mixing engineering, you might find other music a bit boring? Like, "Yeah, their alright but its not TOOL!" lol "but then who is?" U might even be ready for Lateralus? But another suggestion, do try n wait. Its probably their Magnus Opus! 46 n 2 is great for the next progression. If u do Sober u shud do both the studio then the live or if not do the live one from 1993. Maynards performance is stellar. See u on the next one

My biggest suggestions would be don't do videos!! Just audio, maybe lyrics. And save Fear Inoculum album until you've heard a few from all the other albums.

I'm sure that others will also tell you to avoid videos because they are absurd and distract while listening, adding nothing to the song. Lyric videos are much better because the lyrics are exceptional even if not always easy to understand without help.
