The fact that Nokia could comvince some top publishers to publish for their Ngage platform was a big win in itself. You don't even have Tony Hawk Pro Skater or Splinter Cell on smartphones these days, even though they are much powerful than those Ngage ones.

Good point. But you have to consider those franchises aren't as big as they used to be.

Sadly but true, today smartphone are so powerful, i own smartphone with snapdragon 845 but barely console quality game released today for android, the only console quality game released on phone is just indie game which is meh to me because they are just 3d platformer or either a game which didn't push hard to the limit like what this ngage could do. Even though i can play some console game with emulator like ps1, ps2 or even wii but i feel like my phone hardware is just a waste without decent native game. Playstore are full of garbage, their top game list is full of joke, it filled with trash pay to win game, stupid game with full of ads or stupid domino trash game. It such a shame Google only cares about money and they ruined everything.

When I was shopping for Ngage games for this video, I was really surprised by some of the publishers who made games for it. Sure the games catalogue is tiny compared to what Nintendo could pull, but considering this was nokias first gaming device, they did get some good developers on board. This project should have continued and further developed imo...

Life is much better back then because there are so many console quality game made for Nokia phone even though their hardware is very weak compared to smartphone nowaday, today mobile game is total joke. You can't find console quality game, what you can find is boring battle royale game, pay to win garbage, or game filled with a lot of stupid annoying ads. The ironic thing is that not even hardware limitation stopping people to make decent game, its the corporate and less support from google or apple which makes company had very less interest to make mobile game because apple and google only promotes garbage game on their store.

Me too, My journey on this Phone is when i start using phone it was Nokia 3650 and play some games and you can choose the controls on settings on the game, you can see "N-GAGE". I can't stop imagining what it looks like. It was strange for me because of it's name that no number include like: 3650,6600, or 6630. And then i try search it on a website and Man I was so obsessed to have this device specially the Taco version❤ i like it the most than the QD. Back in 2009, it took me 12 years to get this 2 models.

Honestly I loved my QD and original Taco Nokia Ngages, it's so sad these gaming decks didn't get all the games and support they deserved. I would have loved to see some real GBA-esque games on the system, especially if Square Enix or Capcom got on board!

    • @AbdullaZaki
      @AbdullaZaki  2 роки тому +1

Indeed.. Yet I'm actually surprised by the number of studios who did develop games for the Ngage, considering its the first gaming device from Nokia. Nokia had a very strong pull, but trying to out compete Nintendo in handhelds would have taken years and multiple attempts more

@@AbdullaZaki I think the big hitters were mostly ported by one studio and Nokia just paid for the license to get the ball rolling. Tomb Raider, Tony Hawk and Colin McRae were ported by the same studio.
But there were still a lot of cool titles. You could get a surprisingly good King of Fighters game.
Also Asphalt started on the N-Gage. It was a full PS1 style game at the time. And Torus games who ported Doom 2 and Duke Nukem to GBA did an original FPS game on it and it looked great. There was a lot of cool games for it considering how bad it was panned.

Honestly, this was the video I was waiting for a long time. When you were bringing the nostalgia of other devices back to life I was always hoping, next video would be an N-Gage. This was really ahead of its time. It would be a dream come true if Nokia tried something new like this now which is very different from conventional phones. Not saying exact but something unique that makes all the tongues wag. This phone was more of a status symbol to show off and I know so many people who just had it but would not play games that often. Those were the days.
Someone please remind Nokia what a beast they were at experimentation and trying new things rather than following the pack as is now.

I got the QD way back 2007 and still one of my favorite handheld device to date I played a lot of pathway to glory back then and splinter cell chaos theory looks phenomenal in the system, now with the rise of android gaming phones such as black shark, ROG, etc. I’m still hoping that Nokia will release a gaming phone with the ngage platform.

The N-Gage is soooo under rated. Especially the QD model. The cards are swappable. You don’t have to take off the end plate.
But what no one talks about is the trash copy protection. You could buy an SD card, load it with games and play it.
It was also an awesome emulation device, Mega Drive, Game Gear, NES, Gameboy/Color all played great. SNES was a bit hit and miss, and anything above that was a no go.
I paid around $300 Australian for it. It’s expensive compared to a gameboy, but it was a little cheaper than a gameboy and mobile phone combined. And it was a great gaming device, the emulation gave you a ton of games, and the main games were full PS1 quality, which the GBA couldn’t do. And punching up an sms was more comfortable in hand held. I really think the bad PR of the original rendition and the lack of awareness of how easy it was to put games and tinker with it really hurt it.

The ngage like the meego had very interesting features. One is ahead of it's time, the other came in a little too late on an already established market.
The way you purchase the ngage at that time, the process to activate it via sim, the harware design and software I think really hurt it.
I still bought an old Nokia e63 just so I can install the ngage app. Totally worth it.

Now when the N95 8gb came out, we were old enough to be able to get one, now that thing blew us away being able to play quake 2 on the go and even online! Those were the days, seems like we used to appreciate these things so much more, will never forget the feeling these new technologies provided us.

I remember one image gone viral on the internet. This was post ngage 2.0. So there was this concept device call the Ngage - Neo. You can still find it. And it looked promising and phenomenal. The balance you are talking about ? Yep it seems with that device they could have done it.

I was an N-gage owner back in the days. People called me weird to play on the go. Now look at every one 😁😁. I enjoyed fm radio and playing.

It's really ironic how early and late Nokia was back then. They were too early for a handheld gaming device and phone mashed together. They were too late to use android as their main operating system. If they had jumped on android as early as 2009, they would probably be one of the market leaders today. They already have brand loyalty, and total control over the phone market back then.

This was my dream phone which I never got to have. I use an iPhone 14 pro now but I still long for an N-GAGE QD, but I can't find it anywhere

I've still got the first gen taco N-Gage and a bunch of games for it, and the phone still works like a charm. I obviously don't use it as a daily but I'm glad I have it as a collector's piece. It's such unique phone. And though it's got its own issues, it's still a bold decision by Nokia to go that route, and I'm glad they did.

Well, Nokia has made N81 with gaming keys as a reference N-Gage 2.0 device, so this may be a the last Nokia entry to gaming phones, not QD.

Thanks for reminding me about that device. I actually owned the N81 8Gb haha. What I meant was "dedicated gaming phone", the N series devices were all round multimedia beasts

@@AbdullaZaki very true and good video mate ☺️. N-gage 2.0 felt and was marketed more as a service, so it was nice to use on my N78 back in the day.

Good to see you here Adrian 😁 even though Ngage service was a nice addition to their phones, if Nokia had their wits together they could have created their own online gaming store on multiple platform. Hindsight of course...

The major problem with n-gage was lack of camera. Camara was major attraction with respect to gaming durng 2004-2007.

There is a rumor that the original nokia N-gage design was based of the goatse image. It was a response to bad management in the design department where the deciding class kept rejecting each design and as a last effort he decided to submit a design the goatse variant and hardly anyone spotted it and it passed... The rumor is probably true because it even has the ring at the right spot

Was waiting for the next Nokia feature phone video!
I loved the NGage QD! My friend had it, while I had gone for the 6600. The games were decent, and we had taken these towards the end of their production runs, so price was quite reasonable.
I tried copying the files from the game cartridge to my 6600, but it didn't work. The game used to crash immediately on entry 😁

I wasn't really able to get a hold of a Nokia NGage but I got a phone the S60v2 phones that can play NGage games.
SonicN was the very first game I ever touched as a kid back in 2006, through Nokia 6600. When 2011 came, instead of getting an android phone, I asked for a Nokia 6670 and played SonicN again for months. And then I knew of emulators. I was playing GBA games througy Vbagx using an S60v2 phone, along with Picodrive S60, Vnes, Vboy and all. It was my smartphone back then.
(I have video of those way deep under my channel)
