When I asked, you said yes - and I only asked very, very experienced guys, a huge challenge for everyone involved, thank you to Kiff and the whole team for taking a huge risk and stepping up to the challenge. The BIFA award was entirely justified. Anybody thinking about a technical role in this industry should watch this interview.
Wow! Thank you Angus!! ( for anyone wondering, Angus Henderson was the Exec Producer on 'Boiling Point' . You can find his film credits here : www.imdb.com/name/nm2720846/ )
This is literally the best interview on sound I've heard. Also the best sound on a movie ever. As a sound guy I was absolutely dumfounded that this was even possible. Had my mouth open all the way through the film. Acting, camera, sound. You are the elite.
Simon, these interviews you guys make for us are worth a hundred filmschools! I am learning a lot from the absolute best teachers! Keep up the great work
Kiff 🌺 Your Top Gear Rig saved my life . Thank you so much for this Video Ursa! Thank you for the seminar in Cologne Simon. I could take a lot with me and implement it on set.
Thanks for the treasure that is your channel! Question from a rookie: how do mixers synchronize voices when they are moving around multiple microphones? I imagine that you don’t want multiple mics capturing an actor that aren’t synched in your dailies. Are you fading in/out plant mics, for instance, when they are needed?
I don't know where to write this but I cannot stress enough how on point was the scene in the series Ep2 43:30 (the toilet). The echo of Carly's voice is just.. That's exactly it. I have a past of fainting and whatever was happening in that scene (I don't mean to spoil it for anyone). And it's just.. it. There is nothing more to say. You got it exactly right and with all the imperfections that make it absolutely perfect.
I would very interested to hear from the boom op on the movement needed to extend and retract the boom according to the space given without hearing any clicks/pops/pole movement. Or, was that just cleverly edited out? Thank you for sharing!
Right! I was wondering too - moving in all those cramped spaces with an extended pole, without bumping against walls or props, and with actors that come closer and get further all the time. That adds some more complexity to an already quite complicated task…
11:13 It wasn't tightly scripted? The actors had beat points? That is absolutely insane. As if the one-take approach wasn't already risky enough! And the cast pulled it off seamlessly. Huge props to everyone involved!!
Fascinating video! Just watched Boiling Point and it was amazing! I want to research all BTS cause the it was all done in one take. Very impressive work
I forget what it was but something came up in the conversation and I said I really wanna know the answer to that and then everything got sidetracked but it was so good that I almost don't care. And I definitely want to see part two! I have always watched Top Gear with so many questions of how did they do that! and As I'm not really a car person and yet every episode is usually fascinating. But not nearly as this channel!

it's an incredible film. I hadn't even considered the sound before I saw this interview. So amazing that they got this done, it takes real skill.

Excellent video, Boiling Point looks so simple, but the planning in making it happen is so intricate and precisely executed. Brilliant.
Thank you very much!
