*Have you taken the Amtrak train between Los Angeles and San Diego? How was it?* See more about Amtrak in California: ua-cam.com/video/DS88fzXNUnQ/v-deo.html
Took the Fullerton to Oceanside portion numerous times as a child. We would take the train to see my grandparents in San Marcos. Sometimes we'd go up to Union Station and go to Olvera Street.
Thank you for sharing the detail of route from LA to San Diego by train (Amtrak). I was thinking to take train to San Diego for cruise port in near future. Which station is best to commute to cruise port?
There is currently no long distance train that serves Las Vegas. There is a private high speed rail line under construction from Rancho Cucamonga in the Los Angeles suburbs to Vegas but it just started construction and won't be open for two or three years.
Regarding checked bags from LA to old town San Diego, I see you can check in at Union station however can you collect getting off in old town San Diego?
Very disappointed. The station at San Juan Capistrano closed its ticket office a year and a half ago and the outdoor ticket machine is inoperational as of 9/7/2021.

Thanks! Good questions, but I'm not sure about getting to a cruise port. Anyone?
Amtrak will take you to The Santa Fa depot. From there you can walk three blocks west to your cruise ship. Very convenient.
@@janetruggles8708 thank you very much.

Las Vegas, New Mexico actually does have service on the daily Southwest Chief (before somebody else mentions it).

are we allowed to get on and off the train?
Other than at Union Station (if you are continuing further north), all the stops will be for no more than a minute or two, so, no.
