Something important to mention is that Samsung phones since at least the S6 record battery usage data on the motherboard - the ASOC and Charge cycle data. It does not get reset when replacing the battery, and only autorised samsung repair centers can do such a procedure. They replace the battery and reset the "Discharge counter" as well as the ASOC value (they reset it to 100 so i assume it's the battery wear indicator). Now there is a possibility of modifying these values if you have root acces, but with samsungs that means tripping knox warranty bit - essentially loosing some functionality like secure folder etc. Samsung uses either their GSPN network tool or the "Galaxy Must" tool to recalibrate the phones. Using the must tool you can recalibrate the battery, fingerprint sensor, hall sensor, light sensor, proximity sensor, grip sensor etc. Unfortunately the program is near impossible to find, and even if you can fing it, it requires connection to samsungs network, along with logins, which are simply impossible to get.

After changing from Samsung to apple, my favourite change is the lightening link charger. Mainly because, with no centre piece to snap off it just makes more sense. My s10+ had charging issues because I was not gentle with it.
Maybe one more thing you need to keep in mind when swapping these things: Often some of the most random components between a Snapdragon SoC Samsung and an Exynos SoC Samsung can be different! So be careful about the differences there. Samsung is also known to use 2 different manufacturers for the camera modules for some models of their device - mixing those up will result in a Camera failed message! For some models though, replacing the fingerprint sensor might require a factory reset due to software glitch.

A heads up to DIY-ers, new, or even experienced techs. Make sure you order proper variants of replacement parts. Samsung is notorious for having a few variants in their parts depending on model and if you don’t use the corresponding parts, it can cause issues. Thus far I’ve seen it in the charge ports and cameras, or even the screens in some of the older models
Just goes to show samsung has way more respect for its customers in regards to repairs good video Hugh it just proves how much of a difference it is to a company that thinks about its customers

Not only is it repairable, it even comes with a charger! (although there have been talks of newer galaxys not including one but I hope Samsung changes there mind on that)
I am a samsung user and I do experience that camera thingy. That is because an app may have been using the camera and the user did not fully close the app and the phone is still running the app with the camera open. That's somewhat a glitch or something but that's easy to fix, I guess.
Actually, if you remove the pcb with the cameras from the lcd and reinstall them you need to do alingment to the cameras, in order to work properly. Even if they are the same as before. If you notice the 3 cameras are not fused together.
Actually In a comment above the guy mentioned it was because there was a difference between US and EU parts which makes sense since samsung puts shitty exynos processor in EU markets and snapdragon processor in US market
@@nicko9799 Except that that isn't why. Serialized parts and region do often link together. I don't remember the exact reason why every OEM keeps different serial codes for different places, but it doesn't have to do with they horrid 990.

Great video. Thanks for doing this. You've mentioned the non-charging issue mentioned by someone on Instagram. Do you have a link to that post or more details on how does that manifests ? S20 Ultra I have stopped charging. Battery went down from 50% to %0 while I was looking at it. Won't charge. . If I reset the phone, it will come up and show 0% charge and will start charging very slowly charges up to 6% and won't charge further. But it only shows 6% - it won't hold the charge if the power charger is disconnected. Took to it to Samsung - they could not tell what's wrong. They would not replace replace the battery, said that replacing the charging port makes no diff offered me to replace the motherboard as a next step for $500 (12G/256G). Not worth it. I poke around the insides, looking for any kind of physical damage. I replaced the battery and took the motherboard out, examined it very closely with powerful magnifier helmet. Phone is crystal clean inside. No signs of any damage, no bunging, no oxidizing. Interesting.
You can encounter problems when swapping out charging boards across same but different variations of Samsung phones. These sub-boards aren't interchangeable between Snapdragon and Exynos motherboards. You would know if a wrong sub-board is installed when the phone loses its IMEI or it will throw out an "Unknown Baseband" on the About Phone screen.
Not that you're likely to short anything in the loudspeaker, but I always try to disconnect the battery before removing anything. I did hear a rumor that the fingerprint scanner won't work with an aftermarket screen. This might be a little harder to test unless you're willing to source a screen for testing.
So just to clear up and let everyone know. The cameras are swappable ONLY if you have the correct versions. There are US and International versions, and some Part Companies don't always correctly get told what cameras or parts they have, or they incorrectly list this to try and get stuff to the market first. You CANNOT swap a US front cam and an International front camera. You will get the error message. Also, as far as charge ports go, they are specific as well to which versions of the device you have. The biggest thing the repair community is facing right now is with the normal Verizon S20. Those are 5G UWB (Ultra Wide Band), and currently you either have to replace just the OLED which is a pain or hopefully get a dead phone and swap the boards as nobody seems to have the UWB version available. Hopefully this cleared up some confusion.
do u know of any glass screen protectors for the new phones with the adhesive / gell /glue that is the entire screen and not just the edges and fingerprint scanner sorry if im confusing
WOW, thank you so much for this video. you made it just in a right moment. I am doing a DIY repair of my S20 Ultra. USB, LCD and Audio modules died after fall, so it was very useful to know that i can order them and repair the phone by myself!
the A series is a hassle to repair even if you go through Samsung themselves. tried to get my brother's phone repaired and Samsung and Verizon's "approved" repairers insisted it was an international phone (it was sold as US model...) and that they would not repair it despite having the parts. we ended up hunting down some executive office emails and they were much more concerned about it. they ended up taking my brother's phone, confirming it was international and then replaced the internals with US components whole keeping his data. this process took 8 months. my brother did not have a phone for 8 months.
The camera failing from twitter is surprisingly common. My s20's camera fails all the time and I cannot figure out why. It's been that way since I've got the phone
If Andy Rubin had made the parts of the Essential PH-1 more modular like the S20 and other phones; it would make Mobile repair less of a hassle. Great video, Hugh 👌🏾

Snapdragon vs exyons will the part work?..With Different models number?..snapdragon part to exyons.
Yes, I would like to see this
Wait. My s7 does have a lockdown. with a US camera connected to an international motherboard now to says camera failed unless i use the US Motherboard
I converted my G935A into a G935F By swapping the motherboard
Plastic: you will get to know my price when your glass back panel breaks.
Metal: Hell yeah.
What do you think of France’s new repairability score scheme
Just goes to show samsung has way more respect for its customers in regards to repairs good video Hugh it just proves
how much of a difference it is to a company that thinks about its customers
Just wondering what adhesive would recommend
@Sam Howarth most of the adhesive templates are useless but was wondering about the b7000
You can either use T7000 or B7000 if precut adhesives aren't available. Used it on my old S7 edge.
@@therealdaniboi thanks think ill try it i only fix them as hobbies it gives me something to do
As for your samsung repair video that tiny bit falls out of the sim release lol
Thanks for debunking the rumors. You're great!
these are no rumors, he should have tested the S20 Ultra which is in fact "serialized" (what a stupid name btw....)
The amount of times iv had to fix someone's phone because they have taken it to a repair shop and them not knowing what there doing is shocking.
I've got one of those hotplates and i am about to change the battery on an old note 8. you can save yourself a small fortune doing it yourself.
That guys instagram and socials are now impossible to find. Isn't that unusual.
I dont think you should say soldered in boards aren't replaceable
soldering may take practice
but it isnt prohibitively hard
its only if the device refuses to accept new boards
“So JerryRigEverything didn’t do this. So i will”
That moment when you are so early, the closed captions are not available.
@Black Cash subtitles
so i managed to lost my front camera on Samsung S3 mini idk how, and when i try to launch camera and switch to the front camera, the app literally say "Camera Not Attached"
Apple:
"SeCuRiTy"
I'm watching on my Galaxy S20 FE. This has given me great confidence that I can repair anything in my device once that part stops working
Great choice
Not only is it repairable, it even comes with a charger!
(although there have been talks of newer galaxys not including one but I hope Samsung changes there mind on that)
#RightToRepair!
Bruh, Iphone is easy to repair
@@PS-ub8st not anymore
@@PS-ub8st is this sarcasm?😅
I am a samsung user and I do experience that camera thingy. That is because an app may have been using the camera and the user did not fully close the app and the phone is still running the app with the camera open. That's somewhat a glitch or something but that's easy to fix, I guess.
Having the same screws, the company reduces manufacturing time, and costs.
love it.
Actually, if you remove the pcb with the cameras from the lcd and reinstall them you need to do alingment to the cameras, in order to work properly. Even if they are the same as before.
If you notice the 3 cameras are not fused together.
No one:
Absolutely no one:
Hugh: *lets jerryrig the s20*
But he didn’t say scratches at level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7
Every electronic fixing video is a Hugh Jeffreys video
Looks like another liar has been caught. I've never understood why you'd lie when countering evidence is available to the masses on a store shelf.
The technician didn't lie. He's just bad at his job. Hugh Jeffreys explained how at the end of the video.
@@nicko9799 But it's not Samsung's problem if you replace your Snapdragon with shtty Exynos or vice versa. It's like putting incompatible processor on your motherboard then complaining when your system fail to post.
What a joke of a technician that guy is on Instagram lol
I miss getting chargers and earphones with my new device.
When samsung lock components I will start buying another brand
Not anytime soon..
Apple be like:
Is Samsung paying this person 😂
Smooth as always mate.. love from Malaysia 🇲🇾
Yep, you're the real investigative smartphone debunker we needed...!
The a10 back cover is held on with clips and can be easily removed.
do u know of any glass screen protectors for the new phones with the adhesive / gell /glue that is the entire screen and not just the edges and fingerprint scanner
sorry if im confusing
WOW, thank you so much for this video. you made it just in a right moment. I am doing a DIY repair of my S20 Ultra. USB, LCD and Audio modules died after fall, so it was very useful to know that i can order them and repair the phone by myself!
3:09 Oh i see, that's why for couple weeks it looked me useless because after preheating process, you always handled the heatgun.
Yeah the good old plastic back phones. Loved them.
the A series is a hassle to repair even if you go through Samsung themselves. tried to get my brother's phone repaired and Samsung and Verizon's "approved" repairers insisted it was an international phone (it was sold as US model...) and that they would not repair it despite having the parts. we ended up hunting down some executive office emails and they were much more concerned about it. they ended up taking my brother's phone, confirming it was international and then replaced the internals with US components whole keeping his data.
this process took 8 months. my brother did not have a phone for 8 months.
I'm excited to see your assessment of the Samsung A-series phones (I have a A30 myself). Thank you and subscribed!
Thumbs up Samsung! My favourite phone for ever!!!!!
Just woke up, went on UA-cam, saw your video, excitedly clicked on it.
The camera failing from twitter is surprisingly common. My s20's camera fails all the time and I cannot figure out why. It's been that way since I've got the phone
Hugh Getting fancy with these unboxings
If Andy Rubin had made the parts of the Essential PH-1 more modular like the S20 and other phones; it would make Mobile repair less of a hassle. Great video, Hugh 👌🏾
Excellent material as usual. Now we need the schematics easily available.
You've gotta love Vietnam so much that you buy smartphones from them.
And something that I like about Samsung: They support 3rd party repairs like this. When you pay for a phone, you should be able to use it and repair it however you see fit.
I'm really glad I switched over to Samsung!!!
Honestly if you ever been inside of sonys phone the charger area are kinda similar tow cables and plastic and a circut board under the plastic pretty similar honestly
Best new series.. please more of this
4:32 samsung s10 4g?
1:45 I'm beginning to wonder if you had updated both of them.
Hi.
can i ask a question would a differrent region phone maybe cause the lock down issue??? some countries do have strict security for repaired devices just curious ??
There might be compatibility issues between the exynos and snapdragon versions though
But in any case this phone seems to be decent repairability wise
its a two difference model number though... not a same phone per se
