    • @jisakukobo
      @jisakukobo  3 роки тому +3

      8.5mm is just an example.
      8.1mm, 8.2mm, 8.3mm ...
      Can you get these woodworking drills?
      Answer please.

    • @MalcolmCrabbe
      @MalcolmCrabbe 3 роки тому

      @@jisakukobo Granted they are not common, but a quick google came up with Brand: Dimar
      Product Code: BKP-8.1-57R - which is an 8.1mm x 57mm brad point bit

    • @ianmathieson65
      @ianmathieson65 3 роки тому +1

      @@MalcolmCrabbe: The point is that while you can buy some drill sizes with brad points, you can’t buy all the 0.1 mm size increments so if you have a set of HSS drills with 0.1 mm increments you can convert them all to brad point. I’ve never understood why only certain sizes are available with brad points. I do precision drilling in wood and plastics where I have to make do with brad point drills with large sizes increments or else use engineers drills which, as was demonstrated in the video, leave torn edges, particularly when the drill breaks through. Ok, so you’ll need a duplicate set of drills to modify, but then you’re well equipped for precision work.

    • @MalcolmCrabbe
      @MalcolmCrabbe 3 роки тому

      @@ianmathieson65 irrespective of the type of bit I don't think any drill sets come with incremental sizes at 0.1mm sizes. That would be 100 drills between 0,1 and 10mm.. and granted drilling plastic would result in a decent level of precision, in wood I doubt that it would matter much if the hole was 8.0 mm or 8.1mm as it would give enough to accept an 8.1mm rod would still fit an 8.0mm hole when drilled in ply or softwood. - Precision drills are available, such as the part I listed, and the one thing doing the procedure shown here has over purchasing such a drill is price....

    • @ianmathieson65
      @ianmathieson65 3 роки тому

      @@MalcolmCrabbe: Yes they certainly do. I have two sets - 1 to 6.0 mm in 0.1 mm increments and 6 to13 mm in 0.1 mm increments. They’re widely available so I can’t see why you think they don’t exist. Being HSS allows me to drill accurate holes in various metals and plastics as well as timber and man-made materials. All I need is to have them with brad points to facilitate accurate positioning without wander.
