  • Georgetown Malaysia is a great destination, especially for Food & Art Deco Culture. The city Georgetown is a Historical or Unesco Heritage City. Enjoy amazing street type food & cafes. Also, know for cool wall art. Plus, check out the historical sites, and there is a fairly nice beach not too far away.
George Town was named in honour of King George III, the ruler of Great Britain and Ireland between 1760 and 1820 Prior to the arrival of the British, the area had been known as Tanjung Penaga, due to the abundance of penaga laut trees (Calophyllum inophyllum) found at the cape (tanjung) of the city.
The Straits Settlements became a British crown colony in 1867. Shortly before Malaya attained independence from Britain in 1957, George Town was declared a city by Queen Elizabeth II, making it the first city in the country's history.
Apart from these, George Town has emerged as a hub for the arts and culture scene in Malaysia. Since its inception in 2010, the George Town Festival is one of the major yearly arts events in Southeast Asia.

Hello, to the City of by Kuala Lumpur it is around 4 to 4.5 hours by car depending on traffic, 5 to 6 hours by Train with a change or two and 1 hour flight which is fairly cheap and what most foreigners or what a short stay person does including me. I hope that helps . There is a current proposal and plan about massive speed rail projects from Thailand all the way to Singapore, but it will be done in phases and won't be completely finished for years. Thanks for watching.
