Bed Fishing Bass With an Ultralight Rod
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- If I made a list of things I expected to do this year for fishing, bed fishing bass with an ultralight rod would not have been one of them. But now it has happened, and it's too late...
In today's video we take advantage of streak of great weather, and a full moon, to get on one of the best times of the year to fish for bass; the spawn. Join Christian and I as we head to some local ponds to bed fish for bass, as well has getting some rare early season topwater action!
Tips up, tight lines and have fun fishing!

Ok your videos are top notch my friend . I haven't commented before but wow. Camera angles. Those go pros are sick. I get a few on film strapping my phine to my back pack. But its a pain. Usually just film c&rs.
Got my first sniff in in Feb. So sweet. Keep dm up. Oh.. Fish on.
Thank you so much 🤙
Good video nice.to see you out and about stay safe and healthy
Thank you 🤙
Caught some on frog there
It's a good frog spot
Sucks state parks are closed here in Oregon. Was able to put my boat in at Independence and cruised the river for a few hrs today. But I'd really like to hit up mission lake in Brooks.
Yeah, it does
Right on man!
Thank you 🤙
So happy you are back!!
Thank you 🤙
Glad to see ya back on.
Thank you 🤙
Hey man love the channel. I got access to a private lake in Silverton if you want to do a video here. It mostly have perch and bass in it.
Uh, YES! 🤙
@@TheTroutHammer jayhews@gmail.com hit me up when you want to come out.

I'm addicted to catching fish on ultralight rods, so much fun :). Keep up the great content!
Thank you 🤙
Great to see you fishing again.
Thank you 🤙
Gotta let them take the frog man. Be patient
I know that. I waited until I felt the weight of the fish to set the hook, and then nothing was there. I showed the frog to some other bass fishermen, and they agree the hooks can't set on that frog; poor design
TroutHammer which frog was that? Just take the hooks and bend em out from the bottom(important or you’ll break em the hook tips off if prying on the hook tip itself) Also shorten the tassels by 1/2 inch or so. I’ve missed so many frogs... I now let em eat it for a good bit of time before setting the hook. Also just seemed like really fast hook sets in the video. I know most fisherman hate getting advice from others 😆
Naw, man, it's not that I don't like advise. The it's the Castaic mini frog. I already trimmed the legs, and the hooks are set about as far to kill as possible. When you run your finger over the body of the frog, you'll get caught on the hook point, but the body doesn't compact in enough to allow hook penetration. The angle of the hook points to the nose of the frog is also off. Like, when I put the frog in a paper cup, close the cup on the frog, and pull from the nose, the frog almost turns and goes bottom first out of the cup instead of nose first, so the hooks don't catch. I have other Castaic frogs that work great, but this one is a real miss
TroutHammer dang I’ll note that. I’ve had some real luck this spring using ish phatties, with absolutely no modification... actually I did trim the skirts/legs after several misses in a row. Try the ish frogs, green, black/yellow, and white.. also had some luck on the transparent red. But goodluck to you brother!
Ish has great frogs. I went out a couple days ago and got one off a Kopper's yellow belly. They're starting to take to the topwater more and more in my area
Nice job Scott. Ultra light bass used to be my thing just because I liked throwing small lures for panfish and caught a lot during the process.
Thank you 🤙. Yeah, same here. Plus the tiny rod just makes the fight more fun
Do a colab with piscitorian
I'll have to check them out 🤙
Nice work!!!
Thank you 🤙
Have you been fishing at hagg lake I was fishing for bass there the other day had a huge crappie try to get my bait and I somehow caught a trophie trout when I wasn’t trying to
Oh wow! Lol, it happens. A buddy of mine, who I'm trying to get to start a UA-cam channel of his own, was fishing a Chatterbait with a 5" swimbait trailer for bass. A 2 lb crappie took it, and that swimbait was completely swallowed
TroutHammer wow that’s crazy
But, no, I haven't been fishing Hagg Lake
TroutHammer do you recommend any spinning rod and reel combo for bass fishing
Well, the best ones I can recommend are STIX fishing rods, and then your reels of choice. For ready to fish combos, it's really hard to beat Abu Garcia Pro Max combos. Also a Shakespeare Micro Series ultralight combo
Nice job! I went out to cheadle on my kayak a few days ago and caught 5 bass (3 on beds) the biggest being about 6 lbs. Glad to have bass fishing right now!
Nice! Cheadle Lake is probably the best bass lake in the mid valley. I can't wait until topwater season out there
Where at
Simpson Park
Can't wait to see some more pan fishing! Also you should make a new intro.
I was actually thinking about making a new intro
Why do you like to smell the bass 😂?
Try it. You'll know 🤙
Yeah, I didn't even go for bass this winter, but I had health and family reasons not to fish
Is that periwinkle park ?
Which part of Simpson is that? Or which lake?
The first pond
@@TheTroutHammer nice probably just looks so different now because it's so weeded up. Maybe I'll try some top water.
Yeah, that place gets overtaken with weeds around May
@@TheTroutHammer have you ever tried the little pond just off the road on the millersburg exit going north? Right by loves
When I was a kid, so not for a very long time
Great video man! Can't wait to see what is coming up for the summer season of bass fishing!! Is the second pond that you went to is that public or private?
Thank you. Its "public"
Where is this at
Simpson Park
We’re is that second pond at
