  • SpaceX's Starlink mission aims to create a large network of satellites orbiting earth to provide high-quality broadband coverage to a wide area. As of March 2020, there are around 360 satellites in orbit, but the final constellation could contain as many as 30,000.
60 satellites are released from a single launch - and until moved into a new orbit, they remain in one orbit all following each other. At dawn or dusk, these satellites can become visible from earth in a long train all following each other. Some astronomers have criticised the mission as they can interfere with astronomical photography - since they are quite bright satellites and they will be very numerous.
This video shows a 5x timelapse video of a long train of satellites from Starlink 4 - launched on 17th February 2020 - as seen from England. I missed the first 3 or 4 satellites at the front of the chain. The "wobble" seen in a couple of the satellite tracks is due to repositioning the camera.
