James Webb Space Telescope heading for L2 - But where and what is L2?

  • The James Webb Space Telescope blasted off from French Guiana on Christmas Day 2021 - headed for the L2 Lagrange Point. But where exactly is L2 and why would you send a spacecraft there? I try to give a quick visual demonstration using a scale model (telescope itself obviously not to scale).
    The model shown in the video can be downloaded, printed and glued together fairly easily and indicates the main features of the telescope without being overly complicated. It can be downloaded from the link below:

    Could you make a video on the path the JWST took to get to L2? And highlight what gravitational forces were at work to ensure its proper trajectory and sync with L2?
