I love how you basically just went around East London too. My home. I have an attachment. It makes me way too happy when I see people in my home :P.
I've been watching game-collecting videos rather similar to this with my boyfriend, so got super excited to see this in my subscription box! :) This gave me a good boost of motivation to just sit down and get my writing done for today on my modern YA 'fairy tale'!
Videos like this make me smile. I love independent book stores, those and the tiny coffee shops and antique stores are sometimes my favorite parts of a vacation, just finding them and kinda being able to breathe for a bit. And the people who run them are always so lovely :)
OMG that second one was so lovely! And the last one was stunning!
What a bunch of cozy bookshops! Myfavourite bookshop in my town is a bookcafe, I just love being there so much. They have tons of great books and cheap soup for lunch and also a lot of author talks. The best one I've been to was a combined talk and breakfast with a hilarious author named Martina Montelius.
Ahh ALL the ace book shops! I can't resist a good book cover - draws me in every time!
My mouth actually started to water looking at all those books! Lol. Love it.
OMG! I'm gonna go to London soon and this is GOLD!!!
Have fun!
Ikr :') I also hope the same xD
They're all so pretty! Persephone bookshop is my dream place!
This was such a neat day! Thanks for filming so I could feel like I got to travel along. :) That Persephone books is so neat!
I wish I could do a bookshop crawl in London! It looks awesome! Also, Gone Girl is a pretty intense/interesting book. I hope you enjoy :)
Every single one of those stores looks lovely!
Love the London Review Bookshop, especially their bookmarks (which are free) and carrier bags and the books, obviously!
Ahhh so jealous, it looks like I'll need to plan extra days on my hypothetical London trip just to hit up all the great little independent bookshops!
I especially LOVE that edition of Northanger Abbey. That is one of my favorite Jane Austen novels. Fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing :)
I'm moving to London in two weeks. I am so glad you posted this video and can't wait to check out some of these shops for myself!!
Those book stores look so comfortable!
When you were talking about the closed shop you reminded me of John Green haha, great video!
Great video! I wish I could have been more active in the bookshop crawl. You've also got me very excited because I'll be visiting Foyles this weekend and it looks amazing. :)
This would be a perfect day omg. I'm so jealous! Going to the UK for my birthday, so I think I'll have to try this little adventure. :)
I saw the pics on your instagram and was already hoping you had vlogged that day! yay!
Oh my God, Foyles is amazing. I went there two weeks ago to spend my birthday money and I loved it. Wish I could have spent longer there ^.^
Just found you through Essie. Awesome to find a fellow book freak. Love the video. Glitter covered greetings from Eastern Canada.
Aww, pretty books and pretty bookshops!
The bookshops are beautiful! Wish to go to London some day, and I love your videos for that and more haha :)
This is perfect--I am about to spend a week in London with four fellow book-lovers, and we've basically planned our entire trip around going to as many independent bookstores as possible. Persephone Books and the LR bookstore were on the list already, and I think we'll have to add Skoob too! :)
Wow! Beautiful bookshops!
This was great, I'm going to London this summer, and I've been looking for great bookshops to visit!
Gone girl is great! And it feels like every book is being made into a film now
This is such a great idea! I think I need to locate more indie bookshop in my city :)
Ahhh I wish I had known about this sooner! This vlog is great! Marion really made me laugh too, Im going to check her out now! x
I went to Skoob when I was in London a few years ago, managed to pick up some old editions of some Richard Brautigan books, I already had them but the covers were too nice to let them go. That was my first trip to London and it was basically nothing but me clearing out all the bookshops in that area. Bliss.
Great vid, very jealous, unfortunatly where I am there's no bookshops at all...with the exception of WH Smiths but that hardly counts. Should have popped into Glasgow for the day (sigh) nevermind....
Oh my, the book shops in London are all so beautiful and they all have different characters, very different from the ones in Singapore.
A dane and a yank touring bookstores in London. Really cool. I like the vintage classics version of Jane Austen.
SKOOB sounds lovely. Feeling super envious!! Also the name Gillian is generally pronounced with a soft G.
Lovely video! Ahh, the lady at Persephone books was so nice, she gave me some free postcards because she didn't have the stickers (Seeing this I'm really glad I wasn't the only one who had trouble getting them!)
Ugh! I wish my town had more book shops! preferably cute book shops. Just gonna open my own one day i guess.
Or hopefully i can go to London someday soon.
Anywayyyy I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. YOU HAVE INSPIRED ME TO START READING AGAIN. THANK YOU!!!
Such a great video! Looks like such a fun day- I wonder if we have a bookshop crawl in America? The last bookstore you went to looked especially nice
Can't believe she's reading William S. Buroughs! He's one of my favourite writers but I never thought it would be Marion's style...
I definitely yawned after Marion yawned. That shit is contagious.
Northanger Abbey is so fun and easy to read!
I lived in London for 6 months during my gap year and aaaaah I miss this city and its bookshops way too much ): But I definitely need to check out Pages of Hackney and Persephone Books when I'm there again, they look amazing - thanks for the recommendations (:
If I ever visit London, doing this is on my bucket list :)
You are so lucky! There are so many bookshops by where you live! We only have one D:
Gone Girl and Serena are both wonderful. I read them back-to-back in January and could NOT put them down. Pretty sure I skipped at least three meals during the time I was reading them.
I think I just drooled a little.
I'm so sad that I won't be able to go to London this year, but I'll be saving this video for when I go back next time :)
There are no independent book shops where I live :/
I know that feel :(
I just finished Gone Girl recently and it was so good! Definitely an intense interesting read! I hope you enjoy it too~
I really like this video - it encourages me to buy more books in bookshops (instead of from Amazon or somewhere else) and I can imagine it's even more encouraging for the people living in London.
Also, you have really nice eyebrows :)
Hahaha thank you!
wow. so many independent bookshops in London! Only have a couple where I live :(
Gone girl: amazing !!
Brick Land Bookshop is awesome!
this is way i need to move London such a beautiful city there nothing like that here New Jersey!
I read Serena in January because I wanted to read it before the movie comesout (whenever that will be). You can look forward to some pretty intense characters.
Gone girl! Amazing book
Great video!!!! Very inspiring!
this looks so fun! i only know of one indie bookstore in Brisbane Australia :(
This makes me want to do a Bookshop Crawl..
I'll need to do a book shop tour next time i'm down there :)
Great video! Skoob sounds good. And cake.
Always cake. (I bet you'd love Skoob)
You should check out the Anarchist bookshop (Freedom books) next to Aldgate East tube station, near bricklane. Great for feminism/activism and general nonfiction books, plus you can grab a book for £1! It's great.
I really wanted to do this but there are no bookshops where I live full stop. Never mind independent ones :( . Great vid!
Is the Indie Bookshop Crawl something that happens regularly in London? How have I never heard of this? I'm a massive book lover, and have been all my life, and I try to visit London every year so this is definitely an event I'd be interested in x
What stickers are you talking about? booksandquills
I'm saving this video by the way. I'd love to visit bookshops the next time I'm in London. :)
Ahhh you didn't go to Daunt Books?? It's a beautiful book store! :) Great video!
We were so exhausted after 7 bookshops that we had to go home. I do really love Daunt and I'll probably go there soon anyway.
I love independent book shops, but there aren't any near me:(
I love browsing in Foyles, wish I could buy books from book stores but it's way cheaper on Amazon (I'm at college and looking for a job) :/ I really want to read Gone Girl but I don't want it to ruin the film for me, is that weird? I'm going to read it after, so excited for the film!
I definitely have to buy the Ron Rosh one :) my name is Serena hope it will be a nice book :)
"That other girl" hahahah
I'm a new subscriber love your videos!
I wish I could have done something like this but there aren't any indie book stores near me. However, I did shop at an indie comic book store so does that count?
Unrelated, but could you mention what lipstick are you wearing in the video?
So windy
Just realised that Gillian Flynn pronounces her name the way you did. Whoops, ignore my previous comment.
Does anyone know title of second book is? My bad listening :') but the books seems interesting, I want to read it. I need the title :')
your friend is funny!
Could you please tell me which bookshops sold books at rrp price and which were cheaper?
This may be an odd question but I remember you showing a miniature version of the fault in our stars, with the full text but on very thin paper in a very small book where you flip the pages up to read it vertically, in a video a while ago and was just wondering if you knew who the publisher was? I've been struggling to find them online :(
Also I do like Persephone books, that one sounds super interesting!
It's a flipback or dwarsligger, but that was the Dutch edition!
Flipback! Thank you so much, that had been driving me insane
wow the uk copy of Serena is far prettier than the American one. I may have to order from the book depository.
Why were you resisting Gone Girl?
I found Waldo.
Didn't think I would be jealous, but I think I am.
If we ever get to be on the same continent again I will drag you to as many bookshops as I can find.
booksandquills deal.
I found waldo!
* cries over her "city without a bookstore" *
Sadly there are only two independent bookshops in liverpool. Otherwise it is Waterstones or charity shops :( fail
im watching this video at 2:35 in the morning. what is sleep?
Books > sleep
what is Marion wearing on her lips?
Do you work at Joseph Beth
Have you read all of your books?
Definitely not!
Have you read the new harry potter story J.K. Rowling posted on pottermore?
Want.
I have been hearing Gillian Flynn's name pronounced with a hard G like the world gill all over booktube but in life I have only ever heard it pronounced like Jillian...I thought it was like a name like Ginny where the G is soft...Please, someone tell me which pronunciation is correct so I can stop thinking about it every time someone talk about this book.
*talks
My mums name is Gillian and we pronounce it like you would Jillian.
I might be wrong, but I think maybe it's pronounced with a hard G when it's a man and like a J when it's a woman... so really Gillian Flynn should be pronounced like 'Jillian'
They need to stop releasing Jane Austen editions. It's ridiculous. They're all so pretty, but there's only an amount of copies one can have. This one you bought is particularly enticing.... ahhhh, ah, it must stop.
Booooks.
