  • On my third visit to India, I'm starting my trip in Bangalore (Bengaluru), getting a taste for the south of the country. I share my first day in this huge city, trying Dosa at MTR, venturing to an incredible flower market, all before heading to Cubbon Park and a well-known food street at night.

I'm Jason, a full-time British Travel Vlogger and UA-camr who's been to 60 countries. I've been travelling around the world full-time since 2017.
I have travel series' from many of the world's best (and least) known destinations. I filmed the first vlogs on my channel in the summer of 2016 after spending a year living in China. A proper solo trip around Eastern Europe followed after graduating from University in the summer of 2017, taking me to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Kosovo. This marked the start of my efforts to turn vlogging into a full-time job.
After that European trip I explored much of Asia: visiting India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Kazakhstan.
I have also travelled to North Africa and the Middle East fairly extensively over the last five years, filming videos in Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine.
I've travelled to North America just once as a UA-camr, visiting Mexico in 2021. Though I have been to both the USA and Canada, this was as a child on family holidays.
In 2022, I took my first trip to Sub Saharan Africa, visiting Kenya and Tanzania, before heading to the Middle East, stopping in Dubai and Lebanon. Europe followed, covering both the Greek and Turkish sides of Cyprus, and afterwards going back to Italy for the second time to cover Milan and Sicily. I then visited the Caribbean for the first time, covering the Dominican Republic, before heading to both Brussels and Amsterdam, then covering Taiwan and the Philippines in Asia. I finished off the year with a trip around Morocco.
I started my travels in 2023 by finally visiting Paris, taking the Eurostar from London. I then headed over to Qatar for a few days, before heading to the south of India.

It's so lovely to see you exploring Bangalore! I've lived here my whole life- so this may be a biased opinion, but the city has so much to offer in terms of history, food, culture and more. If you're still in the city, or for whoever's reading this comment, i recommend visiting Malleshwaram [north bangalore]. The neighbourhood has amazing temples- some over 2000 years old! There are a couple books online about the history of Malleshwaram, and Bangalore in general, so i would highly recommend checking those out.
Safe travels! looking forward to seeing more of your adventures:)

One thing i would like to say is that you should ask the autorickshaw drivers to flag down the fare meters and pay as per the meter, wherever possible to do so, instead of paying whatever fare is mentioned by the driver.

@@HasanUnknown It's funny to me that you quoted Hindu texts but then told Hindus to ignore their religious beliefs. Islam began when the Prophet Mohammed started teaching it. Before that it was the Abrahamic religion called Judaism. Christianity predated Mohammed and Jesus bridged the gap between Judaism and Islam. Yes I tend to agree that there is only one God but he is known by many names, Shiva, Yahwey, Jehovah, Allah, .....etc. It's all the same thing. If the people of God were harmonious as opposed to being divisive and exclusionary we'd be living in heaven on earth.

Male or female? For food any good restaurants are best. No worries with it. But see to it that India is not specifically dependent on tourism. Only goa, kerala and rajasthan are hard core tourist places. So when it comes to street food just see to it that if the place is relatively hygienic and there are some descent college going boys and girls eating out there then go for it else skip it. Lot of street foods are specifically for people working outside day in out and indian people have hard stomachs that have got used to such foods and can easily digest it. Its not for foreigners. Just take care of this. That's it. You can any time take tips from college kids, no one else will guide you better than them when it comes to street food.

Its' interesting to see a Brit start his South Indian journey from Karnataka. Usually for Brits South India = Tamilnadu. Although I agree Karnataka has much in common with Tamilnadu and Andhra, its history & culture is not exactly the same. All the TV documentaries, articles and history books by British authors that I've seen or read when they cover South India are Tamilnadu focussed. This has impacted even Indian history books & textbooks. Within India, there is even a term 'Madarasi' that is collectively used for South Indians (everyone is from Madras) but thankfully it is now on the decline. The British when they colonialized India made Madras the seat of administration for directly ruling South India, so Madras Presidency enjoyed a dominant political relationship relative to Mysore (Karnataka) which they ruled indirectly. The older generation authors still seem to see South India by this lens. Ok... maybe you are different being from younger generation. Thanks for visiting Karnataka and good going 👍!

Hi. Bengaluru is the original name of the city. The British couldn't pronounce native Indian city names and so Bengaluru became Bangalore, Mysuru became Mysore, Mangaluru became Managalore, Thirvanathapuram became Trivandram, Vishakhapatnam became Vizag, Kanpur became Cawnpore etc. Even in South East Asia, Singapur became known as Singapore. Native Kannadigas have always called the city as Bengaluru and so like many cities across India, the original names were brought back. Maybe only the migrant workers from North India still call the city as Bangalore

I want to see more of the modern places in India. Flower market is nice and all, but I don't need to see that much of it, in compared to modern parts, that you showed little. Because its always nice to consider moving somewhere, and so you want to see the parts you would live and shop in. I want to see some cool restaurants bars, shops, squares, etc.

Hi Jason I regularly watch your videos but always forgot to subscribe and comment on them
This is a great video of bengaluru I also travelled here several years ago may I make a recommendation to visit udupi for its beaches and also if you go up into the mountains there you will see the monkeys 🐒 you can also visit the spice plantation which is very knowledgeable for learning of spices and there is a nut but I forgot the name of it which basically makes you drunk from eating it lol 😆
And visit the tigers 🐅 by 4x4 absolutely worth it

Great video Jason. Very interesting destination and nice choice of places.
Only one “but”… please add the external microphone as it’s not comfortable at all to listen once you walk behind GoPro.
The sound is muffled and not clearly audible all the time, which doesn’t do much justice to your great channel.
Thanks a lot and good luck on your journeys.

Hey Jason, I was in Bangalore for 33 years before I moved to Toronto last year, so btw the sickness can be just a cold usually ends up having a lot of flem discharge, drinking a lot of water usually gets it going, in Bengaluru has a lot of flowering trees on the roadsides, a lot a lot of them like the entire Bangalore roadsides are covered by Gulmohar, or blossoms trees and they say there is pollen content in the air a few of them are allergic to it, it time you get used to it. Humans! Wonderful city miss it though

Great videos from India Jason. I have been planning my 6 week trip through the South of India and your videos have been really helpful. Thanks for taking the time to produce such great travel videos. I wanted to ask you what Selfie stick you use with your GoPro. Looks like you have one that you can rotate around when you are doing your walk and talk bits. I like that you can switch back and forth from a shot on you to a shot forward facing. I can't seem to find something that does that. If you (or anyone else) may know and can give me some direction that would be great. Safe travels Jason!

here is my suggestion for travel in state of Karnataka which is the state you are in.
Hampi is one of the main attraction in the state it was once 2nd richest city in the world and the capital of of Vijayanagaram empire, now it's a village. although 95% of the place is destroyed due to foreign invasion and rest are destroyed partially but still it is one of the most beautiful places ever. is also very calm and quiet place away from the busyness of the cities .
other beautiful places in Karnataka- Belur(famous for spectacular chennakeshava Temple), Coorg which is most famous hill station in South India, Mysuru, Gokarna, Badami, Mangaluru. also the state has lots of forests and National Parks full of biodiversity.

Though I am from Karnataka I was visiting Bangalore for first time. My First day at Bangalore was a bit hectic.
I was selected for a multi-national company from other place and I wanted to join the company. As soon I got the Joining date I have booked for a train ticket. If I am not wrong I have landed Bangalore on 7 Dec 2015 around 8.30 am. The company itself provided accommodation for some days and it was in Whitefield.
Before I reach Bangalore I was installed some necessary applications for in my android phone ( Like Ola and BMTC app). And the time they mentioned to reach the venue was 2 PM and When i saw the distance between Majestic and Whitefield google map was showing it as around a hour. So It was 8.30 AM and I freshened up in railway station itself and decided to go for some shopping nearby Majestic. I kept my luggage in railway station cloak room and went out at around 9:15. I usually walk wherever I go for a new place (PS I feel fear about the Rickshaw drivers and other people around in a new place). I wandered here and there for hours had some food and I have been to Majestic bus stand ( The main bus stand, almost 8 Lakh people travel in BMTC in a day). I asked someone there for my platform and I stood there. But every bus coming there was AC and I was waiting for a normal bus as I knew that there will be a bit high cost and I'm from a average income family. I waited for almost a hour and I was fed up. And later I boarded AC bus and took ticket and OMG it was 105 to O'pharm. I boarded the bus at 1, thinking that I'll reach around 2: 15. But I reached O'Pharm around 4 Pm!! That was the first most thing I experienced Traffic. And later from there i wanted to go venue as I am not sure about the venue dared to take hire an auto and asked the gyu about charge he said it'll be 100 as the road is not good. I said as I'll give 60 and he never agreed then I started walking then he came and dropped me at the venue. I reached there around 5pm.

The finest taste of Masala Dose, Coffee, Bangi Baath, Kesri Baath, Chow-Chow Baath, Puliogere, Chitranna, Set Dose and many more cusines really makes ones breakfast superb and energetic all day long. Pulao and raitha has an unique taste in Bengaluru. Climate is just superb !!!!!!!!
