1957 is during the period of unsynchronized transmissions. It's double clutching all the way through the gears.
I didn't use the clutch. But definitely shifts different than my Cummins does. Same transmissions.
It’s a 2 stroke Detroit Wind it up to the governor then upshift Same thing down shifting let it drop to about 1800 then wind it back up and your downshift will go down in like butter It’s a high rpm high torque rngine

Rpm’s drop off fast on detroits. Gotta be quick with the shifts unfortunately.
I wasn't waiting long enough. Also couldn't find 3rd. Wasn't where I thought it was. I drove it 100 miles home. Had it down by the time I got home.

Rear tires where flat spotted badly. After about 20 miles she smoothed out.
