1957 is during the period of unsynchronized transmissions. It's double clutching all the way through the gears.

I didn't use the clutch. But definitely shifts different than my Cummins does. Same transmissions.

It’s a 2 stroke Detroit
Wind it up to the governor then upshift
Same thing down shifting let it drop to about 1800 then wind it back up and your downshift will go down in like butter

I drove it 100 miles home. Had it down by the time I got home.
