I can't help but feel a little sad while seeing Norman's room.
Why?

Jeanette Nolan often appeared with husband John Mclntire in such prestigious radio
series as The March of Time, in which she often portrayed First Lady Eleanor
Roosevelt. But perhaps Nolan's most enduring portrayal is as the off-screen voice of
Norman Bates' mother in Psycho.

Vera Miles was beautiful here, like a porcelain doll. But it was a cold beauty, not at all friendly or approachable. Miles' screen persona always had a brittle edge to it which only increased as her career progressed. I am glad Kim Novak replaced her in Vertigo. SPOILER ALERT It would have been impossible for the viewer to feel anything like sympathy for Madeleine/Judy had Miles played the role.
In Psycho hers was "a cold beauty" as she was searching for her missing sister in a sinister "haunted" house inhabited by a suspect guy. But see her warmth as James Stewart's loyal wife and John Wayne's love interest in 1962's The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
@@JudgeJulieLit You are quite right. I had forgotten her performance in Liberty Valance. She is also immensely sympathetic and heartbreaking as Henry Fonda's increasingly disturbed wife in The Wrong Man.
Vera Miles was an underrated actress. She has to react when searching Norman’s room. Seeing Norman run up to the house and of course her discovery of Mrs. Bates. Then Norman coming after her. That’s not easy
