It is an amazing piece of equipment can saw logs 55 inches. And can cut larger. But have octagon 🛑 them like a stop sign A 55 inch log is a massive stick of wood tho almost 5 feet across logs like that are hard on everything tho especially when it’s a hardwood like Oak Maple or Hickory. Thanks for watching. There will be more to come
Nice lump of wood there, does the sawyer save the rear edge for clean wood? Or the choice of directions has to do with the piece coming off well? Thanks always enjoy your mills.
Can’t use backside of the blade when log is that big the slabs and boards won’t fit between the cab and the saw it will get stuck on the rollcase. Thanks for watching Troy
The saw wasn’t real happy cutting it everytime the saw touched the log is screeched lol had to make it much small to be able to use backside of the saw
@TheWildWestMill yes, it was working it real good, and it had to be smaller to saw both ways. Slabs would have never fit past the saw on the rollcase. That's big wood
They were suppose to be cutting tulip one of the loader operators put that cottonwood in the wrong pile. Ya. They cut big stuff like that all the time. Walnut. Hard maple. White oak. Red oak
I think your filer needs to do a better job. That shim cut he took showed how bad that saw was running. That big of a headrig should mow through that log and not scrap so hard on the way back.
@craigwillenborg1831 I agree the saw filer needs to do a better job. But if you noticed the far dog slipped off when he moved the big block back on the carriage and that’s why that shim looked like that I was standing there making the video. It’s hard to catch not even the sawyer noticed All the saws havnt been cutting good this winter
@craigwillenborg1831 there’s no cracks but they weren’t using a frost notch which is crazy to me now started using it again but it’s a young guy and I think he’s cheating up stairs and not letting the saws get sharpened properly or somthing with the autobench Last time this hsppened it was saw filers fault they better figure it out soon because they are cutting some white pine the hemlock. Then 400 000 bdft of great big red oak lol
JUST AMAZING THANKS FOR SHARING SO HAEAVY DUTY !!

Ya it’s pretty awesome

The small end was 40 “. The big end was 5 feet lol. Big stick of wood. And they cut bigger
That's one big stick of wood. Excellent job 💪

@LouisKeller-c2r ya buddy that is exactly why
Huge log! Nice lumber! Any particular reason why your sawyer didn't back cut the log when first starting to saw log? Dan
The saw was screeching just sawing one way. The big end was 5 feet across
I asked why and couldn’t cut on the back cut because the boards are too wide to fit between the sawblade and the cab
Thank you
Many years ago it was logs this size all day long in a coastal BC grade cutting mill.
They were suppose to be cutting tulip one of the loader operators put that cottonwood in the wrong pile. Ya. They cut big stuff like that all the time. Walnut. Hard maple. White oak. Red oak
What is cottonwood sheeting good for? Used in place of softwoods?
We just turn it into pointed garden stakes. And we make millions every year
@TheWildWestMill I was hoping I could cut down some of my giant cottonwoods and have it cut into sheeting for the shed I'm building.
@ the problem
With cottonwood it doesn’t all dry straight. Ends up being many boards that a crooked.
@@TheWildWestMill gotcha
Sounds like he needs to change blades
Saw was just changed before that log was cut. It was 5 feet across on the big end There’s no saw that’s going to be happy cutting that

@@TheWildWestMill I didn't see the dog slip, that makes sense with the shim cut. My next question would be, are they seeing cracks in the bands?
