Marvin Gaye, Ed Sheeran - Let's get it on/Thinking out loud (Mash-up)

- As a huge fan of both Marvin Gaye and Ed Sheeran, I was heartbroken by
the recent unveil of the lawsuit cast upon Ed Sheeran on behalf of the Let's get it on
co-writer Ed Townsend and his estate.
This mash-up DOES NOT serve as a testament to the similarity of these two songs, but rather attempts to highlight their significance and value as separate pieces of music, that when combined ultimately results in something equally as beautiful.
Thanks to youtuber Adam Neely and many others for repeatedly adressing this issue on their channel and spreading the arguments against the lawsuit.
STOP POINTLESS LAWSUITS
edit:
Ed Sheeran won the lawsuit and whether you agree with the result or not, you can't deny that it is a good thing for music in general. All artists should be able to practise their craft without having to worry about prior works.
Thank you all for likes, views and comments! I made this mash-up to start a discussion, but whether you agree or disagree with the lawsuit, please keep it respectful. I tried to inspire love and happiness and I will not tolerate hateful and inappropriate comments.
Can just imagine them blaring this out in court and they like it
With everyone in court sing along with Ed’s version. Like a concert 😅
@@jwuemjo They would sing Marvin's because it is the real deal.
Just see the youtube video of Axis of Awesome - 4 chord song... Just because you can put someone else's lyrics ore melody over each other does not mean that it is copied..
With the millions of songs there is on the internet it is simply IMPOSIBLE to avoid similarities...
Like, have you ever had the radio on and a song starts to play it intro and you start singing the lyrics to it in advance. Only to find out you're singing the wrong song.
EXACTLY, too many songs can sound the same.
@@tisjstme5315all the time
Yes.... but this is more than similarities
Good mashup. I think for me the strongest similarity is the bass & drum combo. Simple root notes over a half beat at a similar tempo. Otherwise, the chords probably wouldn't have been noticed.
No one owns chords.
I read a lot of people here saying that THis song is not plagarized. Will you all please list/ name another song that sounds like Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On so that I can go listen to it....
I can think of at least a hundred songs going back to the 50s that are similar to these songs.
Please name 1 song that sounds similar to Marvin Gayes. Let's get it on thar we were before this song. Name 1.
@NYOB Unknown You can dress it up any way you want. Ed took Marvin's music and put his lyrics to it, and didn't give credit to the original composer. It's like taking a sentence from someone else's work putting it into your paper and not noting thar that sentence is not yours. Even if you paraphrase, you're still supposed to reference that it is not yours. This is his only song that the music is from another artist.
@@magoo9279 Unfortunately you don't know anything about music and music theory so your opinion is irrevalent. Leave this stuff to the experts and try to learn something from it.
@@nyobunknown6983 Curious can you name a few songs that have the exact same chord progression and groove as these two songs? Saw a Berkeley professor name a few with same chords but the rhythm was always different than these two
@@henryzhao4622 Rhythm is not copy writeable.
This makes for a decent remix.
I do like this song
Income drying up
exactly , you hit it right on the head
Come on! He could have at least changed also the rythm.
This man's a thief a liar and a plagiarist
No bro, you can't be restraining yourself when you make music
@@juanhoffmann4096 HE DID NOT MAKE MUSIC!! HE "PLAGIARIZED THE RHYTHM"!!
@@bo2.4u6 You say as if you knew
shouldnt be getting sued i listened to the orignal Marvin Gaye song and sounds complete differnt and the lyrics are different. he better win this cause i like his music.
BULLLSHIT!!!
Their logic: it's got the same chord progression, and the same bpm...he stole it! 😅
Same drum snares and guitar… def a sample
Money Grab
I just believed marvin wakeup Drunk when he's thinking to take Ed Sheeran to court
This was not mixed very well must have been a rookie .
No hay plagio es injusto que vaya a juicio el talentoso ed Sheran
They reachin with that lawsuit it’s still a different song
Only thing different is the lyrics.
If they think this is same song. Then ALL the rappers have copyright issues
I don't hear the same song either. It's two different songs. They're reaching. This mash up proves it. This sucks
U SICK !!! LIER!! LIER!!!! LIER!!! YOUR PANTS ON FIRE!!! 🔥
I really didn’t get copyright infringement with these two Now others I was like yea a little bit But when I first heard Ed’s song ‘Let’s get it on’ did not pop up in my mind It just didn’t 🤷🏽♀️
The main point is the part of the song starting at 1:16. That's what I read.
This mash-up hurts my head! Not the same at all!
In music, different artists can sing at the same tempo but with different lyrics. This shouldn't have reached the court to decide at all. No plagiarism.
True but they do sound similar
@@oladeebiazazi4538 You should know that almost all soul music has a baseline that sounds similar.
Bruh it's literally a crime that he won but whateve. You do you
The kid Ed Sheeran also stole music from Van Morrison Marvin Gaye, Sami Swicth, and in this case the British court ordered the suspension of copyright payments. Sheeran also stole music from girl group TLC, and country singer Jasmine Rae. The song thief didn't stop there, he stole an entire song from singer Matt Cardle, he had to pay 20 million dollars for stealing Matt's song. Sheeran is a dirty, bastard thief.
How is it not plagiarism or at least HEAVILY inspired by?
Same beat/tempo/groove I've never seen 2 songs more similar.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 I’m sorry but my ears started bleeding
Cause they can
Suit
Totally different but they can blend, same smooth sound. Like other songs😂
same chords progression but then different pattern on timing and pitch..
totally 2 different songs
Tutta la vita Marvin l'altro copia
The standard for music copy right is
Broken and frankly corporate Bullshit .
The burden of the quantitative use (direct similarities in music) is so low, e.g Sheeran just used the same root notes from the bass line and that was enough. So it always comes down to the qualitative standard (abstract qualities like the vibe).
Abstract qualities being the main metric mean it’s completely a subjective measure that anyone can win with a good enough argument even if the entire public would disagree.
Nope. You can literally feel the difference. Just feel marvin over his and ed is SO different. Nothing is the same how is this a long court battle?
I hear a lot of songs do this, but, they are 2 totally different songs.
Facts
No they aren’t. It’s the same basic melody. Same chord progression. The bridge on each song is different, but melody is the same.
BULLLSHIT!!!!!
again...its a copy. sheeran took the chance, like thicke previously did...and will have to pay, like thicke also did. its disapointing that people today do not even care if its a copy...if he can get away with it, good for him. respect for others is laughed at today. pathetic.
How is it a copy? Can you defend your answer?
El ritmo es el mismo a pagar Sheeran
Ed Sheeran wins copyright trial!
I like Ed Sheeran, but he stole this song, and he needs to show respect!
This is ridiculous! Sooooooooo many songs do this. It’s not copying. At some point you’re bound to recycle some pitches and rhythmic patterns. By this logic nobody should make music
These songs don’t even sound exactly the same
Bottom line; no comparison. Everyone to his own taste, but for me, not fond of Sheeran. He don't hold a candle to the soulful, silky smooth voice of Marvin. And there are just so many musical notes & of course, all musicians & artists are influenced by the talent that came before. I hear many songs that are influenced by that little ole band, The Beatles! & that's how it's meant to be.
Completely different songs, what the hell.
Just another Yt person stealing Black IP
This is the reason you can’t copyright a chord progression. Totally different song.
Can't see what the Gaye people are going on about.
Money running low...? Bc, this is a reach.
It's not the Gaye estate suing. It's Ed Townsend's family suing. Townsend was the songwriter.
The soul is missing in Ed's version. He's NOT Marvin Gaye.
Yeah he stole that but they been stealing from us for years
You can't steal music wtf
Copy !!!
SONGS AARE DIFFERENT BUT THE TEMPO AND BEAT ARE ALMOST THE SAME. CAME UP WITH DIFFERENT SONG BUT SAME TEMPO AND ALMOST SAME BEAT.
Absolutely rubbish . I wouldn’t have liked this song at all and I don’t think it would have been successful. Well done to ed for winning this ridiculous law suit ❤🎉🎉
What the hell are you talking about?? Marvin Gaye's 'Let's Get It On' was a way bigger hit, that's why he STOLE it! You need to learn how to do research.
Ed's song is literally based completely on Marvin Gaye's song & although it varies in some areas, the basic arrangement was completely stolen! I bet they didn't play this in court because you can completely hear where his wrong took a lot of inspiration from the Marvin Gaye song! I love Marvin's music and Ed's music, but Ed should have lost that case! He copied that song! I hope Ed Townsend appeals. And, to be clear, how would you feel as an artist if you create something and then someone copies almost the entire arrangement? You would be pissed! Ed's song totally copies that song and there is no denying it when you listen to both!
People can't own chord progressions, beats and styles so no it's not a copy, you can only have "own" a melody and lyrics which are not the same in this song
I like Ed music but his hit songs are stolen from Black Artists. Sorry it's the truth.
Of course, fans will defend him, but I am not a fan and there is no defense. He literally tried to cleverly manipulate his unauthorized use of Marvin Gayes classic. This is the second White Man caught stealing from Black Music Royalty Marvin Gaye, the first being Robin Thicke. RIP Marvin, we are fighting on your behalf. It is 2023 no excuse, all he had do, is have his label get clearance to use the "Let's Get It On" it is called Licensing.
WHAT ABOUT ELVIS? HOW MANY DID HE COPY?
Not even close. and I don't even like Ed Sheeran.
Total plagiarism
