    • @PxlDev
      @PxlDev  10 місяців тому +239

      Not everyone practises stoicism. No matter who you are and what philosophy you practise, if someone close to you dies it will weight you down. As you said, "Enjoy the company while you can. Appreciate the memories when they're gone." but you can't prepare for someone dying. Especially if your own world perspective doesnt include death, since you are immortal.
      Its really hard to move on from people who are dead even if you do follow the teachings of stoicism. Take it from a person who has experienced this first hand.
      "If you can accept death once. You can accept death a thousand times over." This is not true, it's hard to "accept" someone's death, especially if that person was close to you. This specific manga really does show what an immortal being would feel like after losing someone for the first time.

    • @CandleWisp
      @CandleWisp 10 місяців тому +72

      @@PxlDev
      Yes, this comic addresses an immortal's first brush with loss. But I'm talking in the general trope, as OP has referenced.
      I'm not saying death is easy. I'm saying it is no more challenging as an immortal.
      Proportionally, an immortal doesn't experience more death than a mortal. They experience the same amount of happiness and sadness as a mortal.
      It's not just people dying back to back every day.
      Plus, they have every opportunity to develop the coping skills to deal with it.
      So with that in mind, "being immortal sucks because you watch your loved ones die" strikes me as mortal-centrism. We're just rationalising our weaknesses. Plus, everyone is already likely to outlive their parents. Mortals already outlive some of their loved ones.
      There's no reason the challenge can't be overcome. There's no reason it's any harder than what a mortal faces.
      Thus the phrase, if you can accept it once, you can accept it a thousand times over.

    • @PxlDev
      @PxlDev  10 місяців тому +57

      @@CandleWisp You do have a point on the proportions of suffering and sadness. We are still talking about *if* someone is able to accept the death of someone. Not all are able to do that.
      Mortal-Centrism is a new word for me :O
      When it comes to immortality it's probably hard to form lasting connections, since they fade away quickly.
      Talking about the philosophy of immortality is interesting :)

    I can see a few outcome for that immortal after their partner died:
    - couldn't accept it and activate the coping mechanism (example: searching resurrection magic). Might take any chances given no matter how big the price to pay
    - Couldn't accept and might attempt suicide
    - took time to accept it and start to distance themselves from mortals. Afraid to build another relationship due to facing the same situation again.
    - Accepting their lost and tried to blend in mortal society to learn appreciate more about life
    - Accepting it too quickly and build another relationship. Repeating the cycle until they lose their emotion over "losing the loved one". Could take worse turn and start toying with life just like their friends

    Two types of RPG gamers:
    A) Looks in a chest, sees a top tier sword, remembers they already maxed the upgrades on the beginner sword (It has 1 more attack), ignore the loot.
    B) Hit the take all button, "I'm gonna need it for later.", at the final boss, "Still might need it for later.", The actual nuke throwable watching them struggle: 👀

    Even the longest time imaginable, is just a tick of a clock, in presence of infinity.
    If you ever have read a book about cultivation.
    Ask yourself.
    Why there are no immortals in Immortal worlds?

    Immortality is for those who gave themselves to the greater goal,like saving humanity from evil gods from the warp. immortality for sane beings is just a poison and endless agony,just watching the ones around you getting older and older is a painful process,and at the end you at mirror after the ones you love have died of old age and you still the same age when you gain immortality,just horror and regret why you gain immortality.

  • @nester7315

    It isn't too deep or outstanding, there's a good amount of works with similar ideas (for example Friren have some similar ideas if I'm correct), but that's your vision of emitional problem. I'd added some lines for human like "You'll heal that vound on heart eventually, and probably you'll even forget about me someday, but it's a pleasure to me to make second of your life happier." but it is what it is, and it is beautiful) Thanks, and even though there're hundreds of people those did same work and dozens those did better, you did best of your, and that's enough) Thanks)))

    You know, there are many stories about how immortality backfires on characters and it often carries the message that death makes life more precious. Not in this case, it seems like. I like to think that this story shows that immortality doesn't mean much if those close to you aren't also immortal.

    The Clock Man asked the little boy
    “What would you give for another day in your life?”
    The boy replied:” not one cent, for my days are full of smiles”
    The Clock-Keeper asked the grown man
    “What would you give for another day?”
    The man replied: “perhaps a dollar or two, for I still have much to live for.”
    The Clock-Keeper asked the little boy, now quite old and came time to die
    “What would you give for another day?”
    The old man replied: “All the stars in the sky and all the pearls in the sea”
