  • Yorkshire watercolour artist Ashley Jackson at his first studio Dodworth at the age of 24 - talking about his paintings, Yorkshire and the landscape, as passionate then as he is now. This footage has been digitalised and archived by the University of Huddersfield.Filmed by the late John Hoyland, of Barnsley Cine Club. It shows the young Ashley Jackson combining his trade as a skilled signwriter in the Barnsley area with his burgeoning career as a landscape artist, making frequent painting expeditions to the Yorkshire Dales.

    A young man who knew his own worth , with the support of his wife & family struck out and made a name for himself 'HIS ' way.. story of what true Yorkshire grit is all about. congratulations Ashley.

      Thank you, many people said I was a young man in a hurry …. But as I reach 81 I am glad I was for life is short.
