In my third and final adventure with Cliff from the Wandering Woodsman, we head deep underground. This old abandoned coal mine was one of the best ones i have ever explored. Littered with numerous shafts & tunnels, this mine even had its own underground structures. It was complete with a motor barn (repair shop), hospital room and foreman's room. While exploring, i even came across new areas that i plan on exploring on a return trip. So come along with me as we see what is left behind this amazing abandoned mine. Enjoy

Please Note: Exploring Abandoned locations can be dangerous. I don't condone or encourage anyone to enter an Abandoned structure. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal and when possible, i seek out permission. I simply go to document its history before it's gone and leave things the way I find them. I assume all the risks & responsibility in doing so. Please don't attempt to do this on your own.

Wow! You guys are a dying breed of brave men! I was sweating in fear worried for you guys. 😬😱 Excellent work!
Better than the million dollar movies keeping me on the edge of my couch! 🇺🇸💪
I don't even know how to comment..... overwhelming footage... I could feel the tons of bedrock over "my" head and was even claustrophobic thru most of the explore. The 1915 Motor Barn....amazing. To think ,all of the huge timbers ,cinder blocks, concrete and bricks etc. had to hauled down three levels underground. This was a big deal ....still spectacular. Very educational journey into the earth...you and Cliff are doing what few people would have the guts to do. .....me ,for one. LOL.. Glad you took safety measure ....this was real. Nothing to fool around with for sure. Great job, boys.
Its not for the faint of heart, but deserves to be documented.
Yeah barb, I agree! I got claustrophobic just watching! But my great grandpa died in the coal mines of West Virginia, with a big slab that crushed him. And I was worried for them too. It's dangerous!!
My Queue is just loaded with JP's Videos. Very addictive.
This needs a million views!!
Might call out the haters if it did.
@@JPVideos81 yeah ..mute user from channel man I love that button!!
Awesome friggen explore! It doesn’t get any better than that! Bloopers were cool at the end! Lol. Reminded me a bit of the movie Mother Lode! Great explore and thanks for sharing. Thumbs up as always!
I love showing the bloopers. Shows some of the fun and trouble we run into.
My dad was a coal miner in West Virginia for several years. Dangerous and hard work. Thank you for sharing😊
It is. Very dangerous and very hard work.
I love your videos. You have a great voice and I appreciate that you research your content. I also like that you ad the still photos at the end. I can’t always “like” your videos because I watch them on my tv and can’t or don’t know how to press a like button. Rest assured that I do like them though and enjoy watching you and the people who join you!
Thanks so much
You are fearless JP. Love nor money wouldn't get me down there. Although my grandfather was a coal miner in WV. Don't know how he did it!
Not for the faint of heart.
Cant believe I haven't seen this one yet! This was great and a bit sketchy at times but SUPER cool! Great job JP!
Hey JP! I was on the edge of my seat with this video. I'm extremely terrified of enclosed spaces. I give you a thousand thumbs up for doing this video!!!
Thanks Lacey!
All that stuff should be put in a mining museum🛠⚒⛏
So many layers of slate, coal, rust , & mud. So interesting . Really like Cliffs light/camera holder.
Awesome video ,copper mines around this part of the world.gravel pits here in the southeastern part of the state, but the UP of Michigan has copper, gold, silver,
This video is the holy grail of wet pa mines at there badass best!!!
Always come back to watch often!!!
👍
That is a BIG mine, and a fascinating explore. Very smart exploring you two. Stay safe and Happy New Year!!
Fantastic video of this colliery! You were so fortunate to have been able to get into it when you did. The one hole I always would have liked to have seen. Nature has a way of reopening many holes man fills in. In this case natural collapse also added to it, but another hole will re emerge. Hopefully the land is left alone but who knows? We need 2 or 3 more Chewy distribution centers! My cats are starving!
I'm not sure I could have stayed down there for very long...not much for close, tight spaces; but interesting to watch.
Great find and exceptional
exploration 👍👍😁😁
Another first rate video 😁 thanks again for letting us come along 🥰 Take care and stay safe ❤
Hi JP and Cliff absolutely great video to watch on New Years Eve I always love the music selections at the end of your video's 🎆🎉👏🖒
Thanks paula
So much respect shown to Miners of yesteryear. Thank you. So much History and lost knowledge. Thank you J & Cliff. Some of the older finds are making their way to my feed. Trying to go back and keep up at the same time.
Thanks for watching
I would have too say this is the most epic video on youtube.
Would love to see level 3 in real life someday before I die.
Shoot me an email. I received some bad new about another location.
I'm very glad you were safe. Great video
Me too!
That would have been a hell of a great place to have a metal detector great videos allways
Yeah maybe find a carbide lamp..or some coin.
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME EXPLORE!!! Loved every minute of it ❣️😊💕 That mine just kept going & going with cool finds everywhere!!! AWESOME VIDEO 👍👍👍 Thank you Jay for sharing!!! LOVED IT ❤️😍💙😊💙👍❣️😊
I see you like the dark and mysterious places.
@@JPVideos81 yes I do it would be even better if there was a paranormal investigation done!!!
will need to get back to this double work shift calls :)
Hi Jp and Cliff , awesome video and enjoyed it ...
Great video...no way i could go down there but I've always been fascinated with caves and old mines thanks for taking us along Happy New Year and stay safe
It's not so bad if you do things safely.
There's soooo much there! Nice!
Thanks for the video jp and cliff, very interesting. Happy new year to you both.
Amazing video. Would never guess thered be a workshop down here or as much as there is!!! Love the whole video!!!
Nice cool place to work
well that was the best mining video ever!! just shook my head the whole time how they built everything and worked down there can't imagine do you think they had bathrooms? thanks for the video!
They used buckets or pails for number 2.
@@JPVideos81 wow that's really roughing it
Wow JPVideos !!!!!!!!!!!😱😱
Fan-frikken-tastic & amazing & awesome & freaky & wild & a HUGE THANK YOU to YOU for having the '⚾⚽s' to go down those narrow shafts!!!! You're one hellova brave dude!! Thank you for great content!! Vanessa, South Australia👍🐨😎
Thanks Vanessa. Someone has to have the ⚽️⚾️🏀🏐 to do it.
😃😜, yip...you sure do! Thanks again, because as you mentioned it is very dangerous down there and I for one would not even contemplate going down those shafts!! Your messages --re not going down the mine, or other explores where the abandoned building is dangerous, falling apart etc...those messages are so important and they assist in keeping your videos apart from the young, dumb, gung-ho boyz who think they're invincible!!!
Clearly, they think they have ⚽⚾'s, however...they're equivalent to peanuts°° ... LOL😝😂😉~~oops, sorry I couldn't resist!! 😎🐨
@@vanessaguinane4379 haha. You worded it perfectly.

Don't mind me I just watched it again,Going through a rough moment right now and had to get my mind off of things thanks for being an awesome friend and making these great videos😉👍💙
We all go through rough and not to nice moments. Thankfully, they dont last forever. Im glad the videos help clear your mind. Stay positive my friend.
Great video and very informative!!! You took me through something I would never have the guts to do so thanks for the adventure and stay safe on your future endeavors!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Cynthia
great video j and cliff. happy new year guys. your right looked like a train coming with cliff and his big light/lol
CONGRATULATIONS on 49 thousand subscribers ! May this be a great year for JPVideos....you deserve it : )
Thank you Barbara for your continued support.
i really enjoyed this mine video and thanks for taking us on your jounery with you you never disappoint
Thank you
WoW. WoW. That was truly amazing. I have never seen so much in a mine before. Awesome exploration site. I don't know why but of your 3 mining videos that Ive seen this one terrifies me the most. All that water seeping in. All the collapsed places. Too scary. Do you know something, I think that there's a TV channel somewhere that would buy that, there is just so much to see. Its amazing. I applaud you, scared the life out of me but give credit where its due. AWESOME !! The montage is excellent and the music for it ... Perfect. ❤🌿❤
Hope it scared you in a good way where you couldn't look away lol
@@JPVideos81 🌿🌿👍👍👍👍🌿🌿
Great video! Those workshop areas are awesome! A lot of great finds in there!
👍 as always! Great job, guys!
🙂
Very cool! I love seeing these mine videos! Happy New Year!!
Same to you Don
Thanks JP for this interesting and informative video. My hubs had coal miners in his family (his grandfather and uncle) and told me is was a hard life, with little pay, especially back in Mexico. The mine his uncle was working had a cave in and these poor souls were trapped for 4 or 5 days, and miraculously they were rescued (though with injuries) but all alive. After his injuries had healed, he went right back to work. Sadly he died from black lung several years ago, as did my hubs grandfather. Thank you for taking the time to share with us all these amazing adventures you embark on and may you and yours have a safe and wonderful New Year filled with health, happiness and prosperity.
Sorry to hear that. I appreciate you watching.
I couldn't do that! Respect for all who can even go in there.
Takes a strong mind to keep calm while inside there.
This probably one my favorite videos to put THAT much work into a mine . A work shop ,Infirmary and offices , THAT’S impressive. Still looks like still a lot of coal in the mine. Too bad you won’t give the name of the mine. I would love to research it more. Why is that anyway ? Anyway great video.
Hi, wow that mine seems very extensive and with quite a few interesting area's and artifacts too. Thank you, I hope you had an amazing year and I would like to wish you all luck, health and happiness in 2019. Happy New Year. x
Thanks so much Sue. Same to you!
You guys are so lucky got too see the motor barn in real life,I would love too see it someday!!!
Thumbs up!!!!Breaker boys!!!!!
In the photo I can actually see a man-way up above the main adit to the right, interesting!!
BTW-I think this video is unbeatable bro.
There's much more to this mine that we didnt get to explore. I always wanted to do a return trip but i missed my chance.
@@JPVideos81Maybe someday Ill get up the nerve.
EARTH ANGEL😇 Another dangerous exploration!!! Awesome camera shots. Just a person’s footsteps could cause an avalanche in here!! Interesting video,,but sometimes hard to watch......just imagining what might happen! This is one of the top most dangerous occupations! So claustrophobic..... is it difficult to breath ?? Those rooms are amazing!! Imagine just how many men died from “black -lung” ??!! One of those tunnels reminds me of being in a MRI machine!😱👍😎🤷🏻♀️🤔👍👍. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!🎆🎊🎈🥳🥂🍾
Breathing wasnt bad
Thanks for sharing with me JP I really enjoyed it and be safe JP when you do your videos because even if you are a pro at what you do you still have to have to be careful to your self and I thank you for this video about Amazing Abandoned Mine- Rare finds Found Inside and I can't wait to see your next video and God Bless and thanks again. HAPPY NEW YEAR:
Thanks so much for watching.
found another cave video and I am so happy. this one looks like a maze to me. Was that a vein of coal that you showed. I am glad they gave you permission to go through it. that wheel was neat to see. that did look like a train coming at you. fun. look how they put those timbers together to hold up the ceiling. Was it wet like that when there was mining going on?????? so they would not mine those small line of coal then? That cog wheels were interesting to see. that's neat to see that deep place and I am glad you did not go there. Great video. loved it. thank you for bringing it.
Mines, especially coal mines are notoriously wet. They typically mine veins of coal 18inches or thicker. Any less and its not profitable or practical.
@@JPVideos81 thank you I learned something today.
Both parents from Pa. So I've lost relatives I never knew in the mine. One was one that died a hero. Now I know what they went thru.
Stay safe guys. And Thank you
great video to watch thanks
Wow,really awesome brother, thanks for taking us along, you guys are so brave!!!
Gotta get you underground one day with me.
I am making progress lol.that intro though :)@@JPVideos81
Scary and interesting. It's sad men and boys had to work so hard underground. I would be afraid to be in there. You guys are BRAVE. Would there have been water all over the place when it was an active mine, or did that come later? Happy New Year.
Mines typically have water but they have ways to channel it.
@@JPVideos81 OH ok. Makes sense.
Great video, you two are brave. Happy New Year 🎈
Excellence at it finest. Ty. A bit sketchy in places.
Ty sarah
Wow, that is one big mine! I wonder if all that water coming in will flood that mine out, or at the least erode the rocks away? Was neat how water was pouring out of the bottom of the rock but not up top! And dlnt worry, I dont plan on exploring, this is as close as I plan to get, thx so much for sharing, really enjoyed it!
The water seems to keep going down into lower caves or workings.
Great stuff JP !!!!
Thank you ed. Btw, check out tomorrow's video. It may be something you might be interested in attending.
I just hold my breath.....sometimes my nerves can't watch some of these explorations. It's hard not watching tho ....always gotta see the outcome of the find.
I made it safe n sound.
Awww yeahhh...here it is😎👌
*HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE*
This was cool as hell
Thank you! A bit nerve racking, but a beautiful unique adventure.
I think I would have been lost. amazing.
Very interesting thank you.
OMG you two have some kahonies!
Haha
Holy freaking dangerous!!!!!!
Very cool footage. I kept ducking down sitting here at my desk ha. So, did you encounter any critters?
Not that i remember seeing
Great mine. death trap with that slab rockx

While intriguing😳entering 100 year old abandoned mines is dangerous⚠especially in light of all the recent and increasing tectonic/earthquake activity. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if you 2 decide NOT to return. Thanks for a look @ Pennsylvania underground mining history and for NOT disclosing it's location😶and Happy soon to be New Year🎉Pennsylvania JP Jones.I hate snakes🐍
Jp jones hahaha
Wow! You can see why mining underground is so dangerous!😱😳
Cool video. The myst gives a great oviance to the video.
Happy New Years Mines are so interesting but scarey too
Very true.
The Coal mines in the East are so very different from the hard rock gold mines out west . Coal mines are a lot more dangerous and the men who worked in them took their lives in their hands by doing so . Fascinating none the less thank youJP and Cliff for making my dream come true without leaving the comfort and safety of :my kitchen table.
👍
Sounds and looked spooky 🐾
Hi JP, you guys have more nerves than I could ever have, I couldn't go in there, I'M very claustrophobic, I was getting dizzy just watching you guys, please be careful and safe,☺ great video though, thanks again for sharing 🌟☺👋 👌👍 👏👏 👏👋 💜 one more thing, what is the air like down there???😊 it reminds me of journey to the center of the earth.😂 Hi Cliff, last but not least I couldn't think of your name 😊
Air was thick with moisture but overall good o2 levels.
@@JPVideos81 okay thanks for letting me know, I was just a little bit curious.☺
Very cool and informative! How deep did you guys actually go? Approximately feet below ground.
Hard to tell. The third level went the deepest, so probably a couple hundred feet atleast.
Do you carry any survival gear into the mines? I'm sure others know you're going there in case you don't return. I mean, obviously you do because we have the videos... I would hate for something to happen to you!
Yes, gotta be prepared for anything.
Very interesting to see how the men had to work my papaw was a coal miner in wast Virginia
Great video. What is that yellow substance in the rock is it sulfur?
wow this was amazing it was incredible in there one thing tho why was there dripping and running water? you seemed to know a lot about mining there were rooms inside to think about what they had to do underground is mind blowing
Water is extremely common in mines, especially coal mines. Most of the water is dripping thru from the surface. The running water is from an underground spring.
The breaker boys underground miners included young boys doing mine work. That phrase ended in about 1920 due to the child labor laws, thank God! I was amazed, during my studies, to find such young boys working in the mines.
Underground miners is a website. And the breaker boys used to be just like underground miners but they disbanded a while ago.
My great grandfather was a coal miner in central Arkansas. He and another man was working a mine and one of them hit live dynamite. They were both permanently embedded with coal, all naked skin, face, arms. My ggfather lost his vision that day. Thankfully, the other man, only in his 20s, did not. My grandfather was of age and able to support his parents thereafter.
Glad to hear they survived.
Have you ever thought about exploring the centralia mines? Unless they filled every hole in
They are all sealed up. Already checked into it lol.
I should have known lol
Jay @6:40 to 6:46 there is creaking. I don't think that area there is too safe to search when u do go back.
I wouldn't go in there for a million bucks. Scary.
I went in there for zero bucks.
Looks like it was last used as a reclamation mine. Probably at least an 8 out of 10 on the danger scale. Nice video though, thank you.
do you ever come to Canada to check the mines out here
very interesting
Lol funny cuz my hubby is a miner. He was a bolt man in the coal mine so the bolts over your heads in this mine, that’s what he installed. He’s still a miner. 45 minute ride down and thousands of feet in
Heck of a way to earn an income. I have tons or respect for individuals who do that type of work.
They have several closed mines in Harlan KY, where he mined for years however they’ve closed most of them off. They would be pretty interesting to check out if you could get access to them.
@@oceaneyespat7394 that sounds very interesting. I'm always on the hunt for new locations. Does he work in coal mine? Or do they mine different ore?
It’s a zinc mine.
They closed the coal mines he worked at in KY awhile back. I think 2 have reopened. He couldn’t wait around for them to reopen and had to go where he’s at now.
COoooool.
Fantastic video ! Great find 👍
Do you check your. Oxygen level in the mine now and then ??
Do you know why this mine was abandoned ? Deemed unsafe perhaps-
Thanks for sharing this awesome video - wish I could have been there in person but your video is so good I feel like I am there !! 😁👍💕
Closed because they mined all the coal.
Thanks Allen - that’s the best reason to abandon it 👍
My sensor goes off if it goes below a certain level. Once a company extracts all the profitable coal, they close up shop and move on.
I am glad you have a sensor to warn you if the oxygen level goes down to an unsafe level - good to know that 😁👍💕
My family are miners the elder ones now I see what they worked with everyday
You are brave to go in these places to show people the different places in Existence
Sweet
I had a question and forgive me if I sound dumb, but when the mining was going on sis they have to also fight all the water that we see now? It's pretty cool down there but I can not imagine working down there like that. I knew a guy that said he was going to do anything other than being a coal miner. Told me to go down into the mine you had to lay on your back on a rail car and be taken in. He said you rode down there looking up at the roof which was inches from your face. A tough bunch of men to do that everyday knowing the risks.
Different mines had different conditions and some where larger than others. Most deep mines had to deal with the water table so they were forced to run pumps 24-7.
@@JPVideos81 Thanks. I really knew nothing about it. Pretty cool to watch you and Cliff take us all there. I must say he definitely looks at home in there! It's a compliment Cliff.
Mother nature takes it back. Imagine 1000 years from now (a blink of Earth's eye) there will be no trace of this mine. Maybe the coal pillars but it would have to be dug up, and it would be by chance. Not building a mine but a foundation. If we last that long.
My Grandfather worked in the mines.
Big part peoples history and ancestry.
The miners had a hard job.
Great video....buuuut....where is your lookout and your air meter? I think you are at a mine i am familiar with because my friend got trapped in here 20 years ago and had to be rescued! The names on the wall give you're location away. Remember... if you ever need an extra spotter PLEASE contact me. I want to attend you-tuber meet-ups, not you-tuber memorials!!!!
I replied to your comment on cliffs video. Cliff had his 4 gas meter on him and we always have people know where we are and what time we will return. Just because we didnt show or state it on camera, doesn't mean we didnt take the proper steps. Hope you come to the next meetup in May.
@@JPVideos81 sorry if i doubted your safety. You had me and some other viewers worried.....and some were not to nice on their comments. Glad you didn't take any shortcuts in common sense. This kind of exploration is what got me hooked on you and Cliffs videos. Remember...sometimes gravity sucks. Check out the Pioneer Tunnel in Ashland... also the Number 9 mine tour and museum in Landsford. Would it be possible to have a meetup at these locations...maybe consider Knobels? Keep up the good work guys and PLEASE be careful!!
@@coalcrackerchris i tried having one at knoebels lasr summer and only two people showed up. I plan on making a video of the pioneer coal tunnel in the spring
