  • Hey guys! In today’s video I’m going to be talking about how the new 2022 Instagram algorithm has changed our online business. We have been selling for about seven years through Instagram and it’s always been pretty predictable up until about two months ago. Today I’ll be talking about that!

    And what’s so much more frustrating is, as a CONSUMER, I HATE reels/videos whatever. I definitely prefer pictures on Instagram. When my personal feed is geared towards reels, it makes me close the app. And I miss so much content. I hope Instagram changes the algorithm because right now it sucks!

    Yup, it’s been a struggle. Currently pivoting within my business. Moving towards building my company within a local community to build consistent clientele. To then open a physical store. Social media is going to be controlled by ads. I can’t afford pay to play, so I’m using time. I don’t want to be the face of my brand.

    I started my business with Facebook and grew it to over 150,000 followers. We had huge engagement and then Facebook changed their algorithm to where I don't even post there anymore (I just have it where when I post on IG it will post on FB). I knew they would screw up IG one day as well for businesses. I've been doing this for over 12 years and quite frankly I'm tired. I have gone in debt in the past with ads and I just won't do that again.

    The head of Instagram said in a tweet that they are no longer a photo sharing app.
    ”as Mosseri puts it, but instead as a general entertainment app driven by algorithms and videos.”

    I was about to close my online boutique completely.. since I depended on IG and FB.. the ads would ring me about 25 sells on each run.. now I get no sell on 3 times the price.. and my ad gets shown to not even a quarter the number it used to be showed to... I posted everything until I plan to open a brick and motor store... I made huge losses in ads these last months.. its tight for sure. Thanks for sharing here

    Ugh thank you so much for making this video 😞 my business is going on 5 years and we’ve been doing amazing for the past 4 years. Lately our sales have dropped significantly and it’s so depressing 😞 we have a little over 50k followers and our posts aren’t being shown to our followers. Even reels aren’t helping too much! This economy isn’t helping as well, ppl are holding onto their wallets with everything being so expensive now a days. I’m praying for better days 😓❤️

    I have seen this firsthand as a new online shop owner trying to build a store and community. I really don't like making reels, and don't feel super comfortable with them. Having said that even the head of IG said that they aren't a static photo platform anymore. I haven't gotten on TikTok yet, but I do know people who have had success with their shops on Pinterest now that it offers more video style and carousel style pins. I think unfortunately you are right about it being a sign of the times. People want to see different things now, and be more involved in the brands.

    the store Gia Monae started on Tik Tok for her retail store and she is KILLING IT!!!

    • @MissLilly-vn2wt
      @MissLilly-vn2wt Рік тому +1

      That woman owner of Gia is a quick get rich type of business owner if you can call her that... she is all about the drama and not a good influence for any real business, cheap cloth, failed and closed businesses over and over, never looking for long term financial goals, just temporary sales and business, which is not a good business decision or model, a reputation is important and I don't believe she has that, unless you're wanting to grow on scandal, surgeries, short term failed businesses and child exploitation... just being real here. Ally has looked at her business for long term gains and growth and has built a brand that has held up for years.

    I honestly feel like a little fish in a huge pond on Instagram. I’ve been trying but I’m only a year old for my boutique and Facebook and Instagram both feel like a joke to even try at this point. I’m trying to find someone to help me with making TikTok’s cause I just don’t have the time for it but I’m also low key waiting for a new social platform to rise up.

I wished you would post more frequently but I’m sure you’re very busy.

    Yes, it's a problem and I create a tons of videos and reels, and I'm following all the gurus with IG growing and following tips/hacks/tricks. It doesn't help unless your paid marketing through IG and they will reduce your reach and engagement. Yes, even with videos they still don't push your reach out as far. It's so hard with us who have under 1000 followers, we are in the bottom of the pit. I'm running three accounts and definitely need whiskey and a cigar afterwards. 😂😂😁 The best is pull your customers away from IG. Support them a different way more community focus since you have two local locations. I'm trying to hang in there! ☺️

    I have an online boutique, and I’ve never been good at Instagram. (Which is kinda important for an online business 😅) With all the changes I think I’ve kind of just given up and am pivoting to focus on vendor events and going mobile. Do you ever do in store events? That may help some! 🤗

  • @sierraschooley
    @sierraschooley 2 роки тому +6

    Instagram has announced it pushes reels and videos more. Reels shelf life is 1-2 months where a normal post of pictures has 24hrs-5 days. So it help your exposure.
    I see all your reels I would start posting 80% reels and see what that does for you. Maybe give your employees incentives for making reels at work so you can push out more reel content and video content!
    I think that would tremendously help you!

    • @ElinWinblad
      @ElinWinblad 2 роки тому +2

      You’d have to pay them more if they are expected to help advertise/ content creation

    • @sierraschooley
      @sierraschooley 2 роки тому +2

      @@ElinWinblad no not necessarily, if you have girls who want exposure and want their accounts linked to the posts as advertisement for them that would be payment enough for an account they work for with 200k+ followers. Also commission would work too because off of a sales quota if the met it or exceeded it with their reels that would be just a small amount extra and worth it for the business owner for generating more sales

    Reels is the only way to grow and some content creators are seeing huge growth if their video goes viral. Video is the only way to go. Even rewarding reel creators $$$$ for creating them.
    Coupled with that, the economy is going down and Target and Walmart reported losses. Target even came out to say they have too much inventory and is going to be discounting a lot. With gas and inflation pop down have excess money right now.
    For sure diversify where you are and get your text lists going. Scary times ahead. 🙏🏼

    I clicked on this video so fast because 90% of my stress is because of this. My business depended on organic traffic from insta ( my mistake was depending on it I guess) but we used to get about 50 orders on an average day from insta alone and now we get 2. It's really really bad. Now I am reeling , my business is on it's knees I have had to cut down on staff and move back home. Trying to find my feet again. Its not just about advertising for them but also how much you spend per ad. You can't afford to be stingy with the ad budget

    i feel this is not only about instagram. I think Shein is the thing. few weeks ago shein got featured at huge bussiness channel stuff and shein is everywhere and can get almost anything we want from shein. so cheap and so fun. the brand and shop can compete with shein is luxury band or cheap brand only. because we dont need the mid anymore.

    I also started to see this, however, we have turned it into seeing way MORE likes & purchases by opening up to “allowing Instagram payments” for the online store aspect. At the end of the day, Instagram wants the people to stay on their app so if you’re requiring them to leave Instagram to purchase your product, IG isn’t pushing that content. When I tag a product that someone can pay for on Instagram, it gets way more traction, likes, and actually brings sales! So maybe try activating that aspect to your Instagram shop😊
