- This commercial actual reminds me of a pretty serious time of my life, I spent a very large amount of time searching the web for it. I found it on youtube but it got removed. Shortly after I found a host website where I was able to download. Hopefully it means something to you like it does to me.

I remember they would play it during "Giant Robot Week" on Toonami back then, they only showed the first episode because EVA gets pretty wild after that

I will go to my grave forever thankful I happened to grow up a petulant teenager who stayed up way too late and got to experience Evangelion, Bebop, FLCL and all of the other great anime AS exposed me to.
It took me years to fully remember and appreciate FLCL. I’m so happy that toonami finished the series off so well. A truly under appreciate show

Felt bad that Evangelion wasn't able to make a splash with audiences across the U.S. It would've been such a big hit if it didn't have to deal with censorship.

I was surprised to find Evangelion on Toonami back in the days. It eventually made it's way on adult swim.
i guess the philosophy was "all anime is for kids" and "kids love big robots" which just goes to show they didnt watch it or look at the plot and kinda just licensed it

Honestly everything from adventures in foam to foley room is absolutely S tier, i love this guy with all my heart and have at this point memorised each of these. ISAM i enjoy but in a different way, and the stuff after it gets worse. Im absolutely glad he is doing what he wants and having fun with it, but its very hard to believe that the same guy made out from out where and only child emperor. The ambient albums are nice tho.

I'm too young to have watched the airing of the original show as it was releasing there, but I remember watching rebuild 1.00 during a month Toonami was showing a lot of movies, I think I particularly remember watching Akira and Summer Wars for the first time then too. I remember eventually watching EoE on my iPhone at 3am in bed, barely able to understand what I was watching

@Just some guy On the internet Its really weird lol. For about 10 years the most views were about a thousand. I think the Amazon release of Evangelion is the reason this got popular all of a sudden.

Still dumbfounds me that Toonami chose to air Eva on Giant Robot Week in the 2000s considering its content and reputation.
I watched this exact airing late at night in 2003 when I was 13 years old. I spent the next 10 years with a vague recollection of the first "angels" and tanks firing on it, not sure if what I remembered was a real anime or some dream or how to even find it. Finally I came across evangelion from /a/ in 2013 and it all came rushing back like memories from a different life and it fulfilled such a deep sense of nostalgia and home that I cant find the words to articulate it, I knew I saw something special and that I would never feel that incredible sense of confusing watching something with living something ever again in my life. It holds a very special place in my heart, thank you DeMarco and Atkins, sincerely. p.s. shinji is a bitch.
I think the ADV dub of Evangelion may have been the very first anime (that wasn't mainstream kiddie/Shonen fare like Pokémon, Mega Man NT Warrior, the Unicron Trilogy of Transformers, and Dragon Ball Z) that I ever remember watching as a child. However, I saw it on Adult Swim and not on Toonami proper. Ah...Good times..... 🙂
Giant Robot Week. I believe we saw a grand total of 4 episodes of this show on Toonami.
Could be wrong but I don't remember seeing more than 3 or 4 episodes. A few other cool shows aired as well which I had hoped would get added to the block but none of that ever happened. A shame.

I am now introduced to the fact that the very first instant of some people's experience with Evangelion is Shinji screeching like a little girl.
...That actually sets the tone extremely well for the anime and yet is still funny to me.
I knew my mind didn't just make up Giant Robot Week
The beauty of Evangelion is that it was far more about thinking, collective destiny, and soulful human introspection than about giant robots fighting. That is the reason and the only reason why it is the only giant robot anime that I have ever watched.
