I really love how minimalist all these setups are, and it inspires me to simplify my system. My Evernote is way too crazy and I'm liking the tagging system you've shown here. Never thought to use tags as nested folders. I was always frustrated that you can only go two levels deep with notebooks so I'm really happy to know this. Thanks for the video!
I was gonna create a meme of your haircut, but since you’ve included timestamps, sir, I just want to say I really appreciate that. Update: this is really well done, sir. Good voice cadence and information without mucking about just to make the video unnecessarily long.
This was a good overview, thank you for making it interesting. I have been using Evernote since 2015, I am still setting it up for my work flows. How bad is that?
GreatVideo, I like the Tag Swap, but should I sign up for a new account, and do my new set up, then bring over notes and notebooks. How were you able to do all these different set ups? Thanks
You could transfer to a new account but I think the transfer process would be more of a pain, especially if you have a good amount of notes already. For the purpose of making this video, I created these setups inside an Evernote account that is separate from my personal Evernote account. After I created 1 setup, I deleted anything I wasn't going to reuse in the next setup, and so on. So everything you see in my Evernote account in this video, is purely for sake of example. If you're not sure which setup you think will work best for you, you could create a 2nd Evernote account and link that account inside of your Mac or Windows Evernote app, I don't think you can do that for the web app just yet, those apps allow users to be logged into multiple accounts at the same time, all you need to do is switch between them whenever you need to. Then you can start using your new account for maybe like 1 or 2 areas or projects in your life and see how you like the setup before changing your entire main Evernote account over to a new setup.
Hey Jeff, have you checked out ClickUp software yet? If so, what's your thoughts about it. I just found out about it, not to long ago. So far, it's a very nice all around tasking app.
Does anyone know the meaning of which folder that Jeef uses? I mean: what is the difference between "inbox" and "reading"? Furthermore, what is the meaning of "dropped"? I think the other folders are clear for me. Thank you so much.
Good questions 🧐 These are concepts from the book : Getting Things Done by David Allen. Inbox is for any unsorted tasks while Reading is for things you want to read later (like bookmarks or anything you would save in the Pocket app) that may or may not lead to tasks after you read them. I like to think of it like this --> Reading = Consumption / Learning, while, Inbox = Digestion / Planning. Dropped refers to any tasks that you were going to do but then decided that you no longer want/need to do them. It's essentially a "trash bin" for your tasks in case you need them again in the future. 😎
Pretty impressive video! I'm a OneNote hardcore user but I always check out Evernote organisation methods just because... well, nobody makes those for ON. This one video with many different set ups is veeery inspiring! thanks for putting it all together, I have many ideas in the back of my mind now :D I subscribed instantly cuz you obvious put effort into your work. Pleaaaaaaase consider making sth similar for OneNOte? I'm ok with my current set up but not completely satisfied, still looking for "The One" :/
Thanks!!! That means alot. Haha yea that makes sense. Well, you are in luck, I am planning to release a few OneNote videos before the end of the year but I will try to get to them sooner. ALOT more videos coming soon, stay tuned!
Awesome! looking forward to them :D Hope you take the "OneNote tagging kit" into your consideration when making them. I've had it for a few months now but I've been living without tags for a long time that I don't know what to use it for & which tagging system I should pick. For now I'll add the priority tags & time tags you showed. Projects have their own sections in my set up so won't need tags for these but I'm open to completely change it. Page tags is the one area where Evernote wins hands down but this add-in helps. Idk why it didn't go viral & why nobody talks about it even though it's free :O there's literally no tutorials for it o.O
Hey Jeff, are you still using Evernote actively or have you migrated completely to Notion? Can the above sorting parameters be applied equally to Notion? Haven't had a play with it yet!
I started using Notion in fall of 2015 and I think I stopped using Evernote mid 2016. Currently, the only way to auto sort in Notion is by using databases, otherwise, you have to sort manually via drag and drop. This may sound like a huge pain if you just want to use simple notes however since Notion lets you structure your notes with more freedom and offers infinite nesting, you may find that you don't need auto sorting as much as you do inside Evernote. So aside from that, you can definitely setup your Notion workspace like in this Evernote video and the good news is you won't need to use numbers or hashes to keep pages at the top lol 👌⚡
@@jeffeisley Thanks Jeff! I scan my receipts and business cards most of the time and I hope Notion's scan and OCR feature kicks in soon. Digging into all your Notion videos now. Awesome channel, subbed! :)
Thanks for subscribing! 😃 For now I highly recommend using an app called ScanBot on mobile and then use Notions new Share feature to send the scans into Notion. ALOT more Notion videos to come, stay tuned 😎🤠

@@jeffeisley Thanks, will do
I have never seen an insight like this before. Someone knows how to apply these insights in OneNote+Outlook?

I think it's pretty rad, been testing it out, will prob do a video on it at some point 😎
