That basket of peppers is so pretty. Love your artistic eye in your videos.
Thank you so much -😊Cara
Hi Cara, my name is Sue and we live in Magnolia, TX. We are new to gardening. I have 2 raised Garden Bed 8' x 4'. I currently have 2 zucchini plants, 6 cucumbers, 4 red sweet peppers, 6 jade green beans, a whole mess of radishes and beets and 3 tomato plants
I hope you will continue to show us your traditional cooking. It’s better than watching all those world famous chefs . Also your traditional attire and lifestyle are so wholesome , healthy and peaceful. It’s very soothing watching your videos . And of course our boy DaWang is such a star attraction
Thank you so much. I have more cooking videos on our channel too if you are interested! -Cara
The peppers were so beautiful all the different colors and shapes. Thanks for sharing.
Aren't they!? I think the variety of different colors in the garden are so beautiful! You can plant so many fun things from seed too that you may not find in your average grocery store. Thank you for watching! -😊Cara
I Lori-Ann Tolppanen I am from Calgary Alberta Canada I just love watching these kind of videos
Welcome Loria-Ann! Thank you so much for watching 😊
You have the most beautiful smile. I’ve recently joined your channel and am so happy I did. You are so right when you said He gave us variety. He IS the spice of our lives! God bless. See you next video.
Thank you! I like that haha " He IS the spice of our lives!" Yes He is for sure! Life would be pretty boring if everything was exactly the same. I always feel grateful whenever I look at creation. God defiantly blessed us in so many different ways! I hope you have a lovely day! -😊Cara
Such beautiful footage of the morning dew. I sometimes tear up when I’m in the garden or watching the deer and thinking of God’s design - just HOW?!
I completely understand! I am often the same way. There are not enough words to describe the goodness of His design, creation is pretty amazing! -😊Cara
My favorite thing to do with them in half and stuff with sausage, cream cheese and cheddar cheese with a little garlic powder and salt and pepper. I cook them, let them cool then vacuum seal 4-5 in packs for the freezer. Pop them in the air fryer for a low carb snack.
Ohhhh that sounds delicious! How long do you air fry them for and do you let them defrost or cook from frozen? -😊Cara
@@bluebirdhomestead I throw them in frozen and it only takes 3-5 minutes and they are browned nicely and oh so good!
Hiya Cara I'm Jan from Manchester England. I've just started to put my garden to sleep for the winter. I grew herbs, rhubarb and flowers this year. We've had lots of outdoor work done on our bungalow so I couldn't grow veggies as I usually do.
Thank you for your wonderful vlogs I'm so happy to have found your channel. It came up after I was watching "The Hollar homestead " Ben, Meg and their gorgeous family. Love and blessings xjx
Hi Jan! Thank you so much for watching all the way from England! I lived in England for a short time so it holds a special place in my heart. What kind of flowers do you like to grow?
Thank you so much for the kind words! -😊Cara
@bluebirdhomestead Hiya Cara, I grow pink hydrangeas, lots of English lavender as I make candles with the lavender flowers and potpourri. Peach roses, white roses last bit no means least lupins. Love watching your vlogs 😍. Looking forward to seeing the next vlog. Love and blessings xjx
Those all sound so lovely! I love lavender :) -Cara
I am a beginner gardener just starting out and love watching your videos and learning new things! Loved seeing Lucy garden with you too! 😍🙌🏻💕
Thank you so much for watching! What kind of things are you growing in your garden? -😊Cara
@@bluebirdhomestead I've just started tomatoes, sunflowers, zucchini and cucumbers! So excited to watch them grow! xx
I love seeing Lucy in the garden with you! 😀
She loves to be wherever we are when we are outside 🧡🧡
That sounds like a great dog!@@bluebirdhomestead
She really is! -😊Cara
I joined your group this morning and have watched and enjoyed quite a few of your older videos as well as your more recent. Loved them and I will be visiting you more often. I am from Newcastle, NSW, Australia which is a couple of hundred kilometers north of Sydney and we are just in the middle of Spring and our weather is usually very temperate. It is time to start planting and I love to plant peppers as I always think they give you a real buzz harvesting as usually they are prolific. I am so envious of your beautiful hair by the way.
Thank you so much for your support and watching our videos! We really appreciate it. 😊 I have never visited Australia before, but it is on my bucket list of places to go someday.
Oh thank you, my hair has a mind of it's own most days, but I do love it too 😊-Cara
Thank you for showing us you actually harvesting everything. This is my favorite part!!! Great video
Mine too 😊 Harvesting is so much fun! Thank you for watching -Cara
Hi cara!!! I’m from Ontario Canada!!! 🇨🇦 I’m no homesteader but I love learning new things from all of my favourites!!! ♥️🧡💛
All the way from Canada!? Wow thank you so much for watching -😊Cara
I am aware I am incredibly late to this video, however you can buy silicone nose pads to put on the bridge part to keep your glasses up. There is also a product called Kat Krap (i think) that is supposed to be put on the bridge of your glasses to help with falling. I have not used it before, but I have used the silicone stick on nose pads. It should help!
Cara, your garden and flowers are so beautiful, praying &hoping Ralphy&i can garden one fine day, my grandparents had wonderful gardens like yours. :)) God bless 💜
Thank you! I hope you do too 😊. My grandparents on both sides of my family loved to garden too. My grandpa was actually one of the main motivations for why we started our channel. -😊Cara
Cara God is really good❤🙏 beautiful harvest❤
YES HE is 🧡🧡🙌🙌
Thank you 😊-Cara
I've touched my eye with jalapeño on my hand and I had to put milk IN my eye!! Lol. It legit worked!
I surprisingly got a ton of sugar rush peach peppers, they have such great flavor! This was my first year growing them.
I've never seen those Saddleback caterpillars in person but they are definitely crazy looking! Noted, do not touch 😅
ohhhh ouchhh! I am glad to hear milk works if that happens though, I will keep that in mind. That is the kind of thing you want to know works before you need it haha 😊-Cara
That's awesome you got a ton of sugar rush peach peppers!! I am jealous haha
Oh yeah for sure do NOT touch!!! Not as bad as child birth, but it really hurt haha
What a great use for peppers 🌶️
It sure is!
Absolutely amazing harvest! Peppers are my favorite thing to grow and preserve.
Thank you! It is a lot of fun to grow them :) -Cara
watching from California zone 9b. I am growing a Corbaci pepper for the first time! so glad to see it in the video.
That is awesome! I love the corbaci peppers, I hope you do too! :) -Cara
Hi Cara. Great to watch your videos with my son and see all those different varieties of peppers, or chilli. I used to grow a lot of different varieties, some mild, some scorching. Years ago, when I had a big crop, I wanted to preserve some, and made up a recipe to bottle them, which worked a treat and was very simple. I simply washed and chopped them very fine ... you could use a blender of food processor, but I think I just chopped fine. Put them into a pot on rubber stove and maybe a small amount od olive oil ... just enough to stop them catching on bottom. When they start to get warm, but before they cook, pour in enough vinegar to just fill all air space... best to add less fire a start, and add more as they heat through. The idea is you are essentially boiling them more than cooking, and trying to retain the fresh chilli flavour, rather than impart cooked chill flavour. Just bring to boil, adjust volume of vinegar to get all the air out, so that when you bottle, it's all chilli and vinegar, with no air spaces. It should end up more like a wet paste with nice chilli bits and vinegar filling all the voids, and just effectively heated through to cook enough to soften and sterilize. Then put indi small, clean and sterile jars while hot, and seal the lids. The fresh flavours are amazing, and I had jars that kept for years. I did small jars of very hot varieties, where half a teaspoon would season a meal for four people. Typically, I used it in pasta sauces and curry bases, adding at start of cooking, though my Dad would add it at the table. Anyway, thought you might be interested.
Oh, and a warning .... heating those very hot chillies in vinegar can give off some spicy vapors that you need to avoid inhaling or getting eyefuls of.

Hi, I'm irish living in the Netherlands since 1989. In Ireland we grew vegetables & fruit all my young years. Here in the Netherlands I only have a small garden. I do grow herbs but thats it. Through you and the Veggie boys and of course Becky from Acre Homestead who I have been following a few years I have decided I am going to grow peppers next year. We love all kinds of peppers and even though I don't have a freeze dryer I can maybe dry them in the oven or freeze them. I just have to figure out what else I can grow in my small garden. O and next year I'm growing strawberries 😁
Ohhh yes to the strawberries!!! That is probably one of our favorite garden treats! I have seen lots of people grow them in hanging baskets. I am not sure what your garden looks like, but maybe that is in option? Peppers are great too, because you can grow them in a pot on your porch and then bring them in during the winter and they can survive until the next season. We freeze a lot as well, it makes it really easy when we want to do peppers and onions for omelets or things like that. Do you like hot peppers or bell peppers? -Cara
@@bluebirdhomestead we love both!
Good morning Cara sorry I have spelled your name wrong however thanks for sharing your pepper blended ideas. I make a pepper sauce for my husband it's made with white vinegar and I use the Tabasco pepper just heat the vinegar cut off the top of the peppers and the vinegar into the bottle of peppers and he eats this with collared greens I also use l sweet banana peppers the same way and its so pretty to look at ❤️❤️❤️🗝️🇺🇸
Good morning Mary Kay! No need to apologize. 😊 Your husband sounds like a lucky guy, that sounds like it would be really yummy. Have you ever used your pepper vinegar sauce to marinate a steak? If so how did that turn out? 😊-Cara
New viewer here! I live in San Diego & we recently moved into a house with 1/2 acre that needs a TON of TLC! Luckily we are used to container gardening so a salsa garden is in the works. We love drying our peppers & then grinding them with corse salt! The oils saturate the salt & is so good on eggs, tomatoes, avocados & anything you usually salt for a little bit of extra flavor.
Ohhh I love that idea! I will have to try infusing them into salt in the future, thank you for sharing! Congratulations on your new home with 1/2 an acre. That is so wonderful! TLC is a great opportunity to make it your own and pick how you would like things to be. -Cara
Good morning watching you harvest from the east cost! 😀
Thank you for watching! -😊Cara
I like your idea of a pepper blend!
I like to chop and freeze sweet banana peppers for our homemade pizzas. I think I'll also freeze some bell peppers since we have plenty. We dehydrate hot peppers for pepper flakes. Nothing too fancy, but growing peppers saves a lot of money!
Homemade pizza is always a good idea :)
We froze some of our peppers, but most of them go into the pepper seasoning blend. -Cara
Alabama garden is done ❤
:) Ours is now too for the season. -Cara
❤❤❤❤ yes nice

Hey !! From France, French alps, very excited to see this year homestead videos !!
Hi! Wow what a beautiful place to live 😊💚 Thank you, more harvesting videos coming soon!
Great harvest. Yes, see alot of Asian recipes use pepper powder. Good idea. Oh yea, watch out for the caterpillars. I'd imagine honey may be good as well. I use it on burns, works well. Hope you are having a lovely start of the week. God bless.😊🙏🧡🌻🍂
I knew would have thought of using honey, I’ll keep that in mind though! The drawing salve worked pretty well thankfully. It’s one of those things you have to keep on hand 😊-Cara
I am taking notes as I watch this video to see what pepper plants I should plant in my garden. I don't recognize half of what you showed. Who knew there were so many pepper types.
Hello Cara, I’m Gina from the Lake District U.K. putting my garden to bed for the winter, ripping out old plants, and amending soil. Had a great harvest this year, potatoes, onions, carrots, Broad beans, runner beans, courgettes, chard, blueberries, blackcurrants, apples, rhubarb, radish, and beets, epic fail with butternut squash though, just not warm long enough here
Ohh I love the Lake District in the UK, Gina! You live in such a beautiful place! It sounds like you have an awesome garden too, so many different types of produce, what a blessing! -😊Cara
Hi Cara. I’m from Colorado. I grew the Lemon Drop peppers & Sugar Rush Peach peppers last year. They made a wonderful hot sauce. I freeze dried the left over mash (solids) & powdered it. It’s the best seasoning ever!! Oh & as a fellow red haired curly girl… I LUV your curls!! ❤
Hi! 👋 I will need to invest in a freeze dryer one of these days. It sounds like they really come in handy with having a garden . That is a great idea to turn the leftovers from your sauce into seasoning!
yeah a fellow curly hair lady, thank you 😊

I love your channel because you seems to harvest so many veggies❤

From South Louisiana, I’ve been Gardening veggies and a flowers for over 45 years. I’ve always had a large and a smaller garden. Here in Louisiana brassicas are planted as fall garden, I’ve planted it already. At the end of October or early November I will plant Garlic, onions, and Irish Potatoes.
Hi!! Welcome! Southern Louisiana, I imagine it’s pretty warm down there. What is your growing zone?
I need to plant garlic here in a few weeks too, do you have a favorite variety? -Cara 😊
@@bluebirdhomestead planted carrots, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, turnip, beets, bok choy, kohlrabi. Still picking bell peppers, banana peppers, jalapeños, eggplants. Our summer was so hot high 90’s and 100+ and no rain since May that with it getting a little cooler the production has increased.
Wow that sounds wonderful! You are really getting a lot of produce with no rain. We have had a fairly dry summer here as well this year. -😊Cara

Hello from France 🇫🇷
Thank you! Welcome all the way from France! :)
Hi Cara, I’m Crystal in Central Arkansas zone 8a (they just changed us from zone 7b). I grew up here but lived on the Middle Peninsula for 7 years, so I know that the climate there is actually very similar to here in Arkansas. One reason I subscribed 😊
I live with my family in a house in the suburbs on about 1/10 acre, the backyard almost entirely shaded. I have a vegetable garden in some homemade raised beds since I feel extremely guilty spending money on my garden 😬
Last year was the first year I started seeds indoors and it went really well. I just started some seeds for this year. Unfortunately I didn’t get irrigation set up like I intended and a lot of my plants died in August (when I also started working 4 part time jobs).
My projects for 2024: plant a strawberry bed (just ordered plants!), build two more raised beds so I can properly rotate my - solanacea?- plants (tomatoes, peppers, and tomatoes). I want to try growing potatoes and cucumbers for the first time this year. I also plan to try to follow my potatoes with pepper plants (not sure what I’m going to do with my pepper plants until June when the potatoes are dug though . . . ). Aaand I’m pregnant and will be having a baby in early June! So we will see what gets done lol. I have two other school age children as well ❤
Hello Cara, I enjoy watching your channel. I love squash and the honey nut squash are new to me. I have to try them. They look so cute and delicious. Take care.
Thank you! The honey nut squashes were so yummy I do recommend them :) . I ordered my seed from rareseeds.com -Cara
Fantastic job Cara 🥰 I am learning so much from you xx

Hi I'm Jane from Scotland uk. Loving your channel only been watching you for a few weeks. 😊
Hi Jane welcome! Wow all the way from Scotland!?! How fun, I have only visited Scotland once, but it was gorgeous. You have a lot of beautiful countrysides and gardens in your country. One thing I wish we had in my country are some of the beautiful historic gardens other countries have. -😊Cara
Hi! I live in Spokane, Washington state (NE WA zone 6). I have an urban back yard veggie garden and a few young fruit trees and berries bushes, plus several pots and containers. I also have flower and perennial beds, and patio containers. My garden is winding down, but still harvesting before first frost comes. Plan to make more sauce or salsa, pepper powder, and coming up will plant more flower bulbs and garlic.
Enjoying your videos! 🌸☺️
Hello! Thank you for watching all the way from Washington state! It sounds like you have a wonderful garden. That reminds me that I need to order my flower bulbs and garlic for planting too 😊! What is your favorite perennial flower you grow?-😊Cara
Hi Cara. I'm in South Yorkshire, temperate zone 8, so I can struggle growing some of the bigger peppers to full ripeness outside. It's why I like the hotter peppers better. Shishito is probably our favourite though, even though it isn't really hot, because I pickle it. I've already bought Lemon Drop for next year on recommendation of another channel, and Sugar Rush Stripey, because I couldn't the peach I'd seen Heather at Sage and Stone growing... along with you now 😁
I have never pickled peppers before, but that is a great idea! 😊 The lemon drop pepper has been a really healthy and prolific plant for us. I hope it does well for you guys too 😊-Cara
That was a great garden harvest video! 😀

That’s awesome Becki! 😊😊 Just to show you how my brain works I read your message out loud to my kids and I said “jelly beans” (like the candy) on accident. They are now asking if we can grow jelly bean candies in the garden 😂😂😂😂 -Cara
But in all seriousness that’s awesome that you are diving into canning, it is so useful and satisfying to be able to grab a jar and say “I grew that” . 😊-Cara

Thank you so much for subscribing! What an exciting journey to be starting! Congratulations on the new home as well! What are you and your husband going to do first, gardening or animals? -😊Cara
@@bluebirdhomestead we are going to start with gardens. The land has been in my husbands family since the 1940s, it’s been farmland, they’re no trees it’s just bare land 160 acres. It feels a little overwhelming, but I think we will start with 2 acres in the spring and go from there.
Hi there ...I am from south africa. Planting my summer garden....living on a farem in the free state love your garden.....santie
Hi! Welcome all the way from South Africa! -😊Cara
Good morning Cara, that is a good harvest, I usually use my peppers in soup, so I can use fresh or frozen, and my mom in her fresh salsa. We haven't been putting up a lot this year, though we probably should. We have actually taken some of our extra produce to one of the local doctors office and they actually hand it out to their patients who are in need. It's a good program. I'll probably do that as well. 💖💖💖
Goodmorning Meg! That is so sweet of you guys to take your extra produce to the local doctor's office. That sounds like a great program to be a part of! Peppers in soup and salsa sounds like a great use of peppers too 😊-Cara
I just found your channel this morning. I'm going to go through the transcript to get the names of some of the peppers I want to try next year!
Morning Cara! I'm Chris(short for christine) from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Across the bridge from Detroit, Michigan. Zone 7a. Nice to meet you! I have been a regular gardener for 8 years. This year has been bad for pests and powdery mildew, but I still managed to harvest a lot of produce. As far as peppers, I have only had success growing jalapeños so far, but if possible, next year, I will try planting bell peppers again. The slicer tomatoes are done, but I still have cherry tomatoes, green beans, romaine, limas, okra and I will be planting some broccoli rabe this week, and hardneck garlic at the end of the month. Have a great day!
Hi Chris, good morning to you as well! Yeah for a fellow zone 7a gardener :) The garden can defiantly still be productive even with pest and disease issues (just look at my garden haha). I am glad you have been able to harvest a lot of produce this year. Bell peppers have always been hit or miss for me, I typically get a much bigger harvest off of other varieties. It sounds like you really do have a lot still growing in your garden! That is wonderful, I hope you have a great day as well :) -Cara
Central MO here, no garden or homestead...YET but I want to!
Go for it! It is a lot of work, but so rewarding and FUN! 😊 I hope you get your dream garden one day! -😊Cara
Beautiful peppers! ❤
I made my first pepper blend powder this year.
That caterpillar was really cool looking! 🤩 Great tip on using tape 😲
Oh nice! 😊 😆 I wish I had known the tape trick ahead of time myself, it would have saved me some pain 😬🙈-Cara
I grew lemon drops this year so I can make hotsauce.
nice! How did it turn out? :)
4:50 I struggle with the same problem!
The struggle is real haha 😂
I think you can buy little attachments that stick to the inside.@@bluebirdhomestead
I will have to look into that -😊Cara
That is so interesting about your sugar rush peach peppers!! Mine were SO prolific! The plants didn't get too big, but I got a ton of peppers on each plant. I am just about at the end of my harvest and unfortunately I have a bunch that are no where near ripe
That’s awesome that your sugar rush peach pepper did great for you! 😊😊😊 Maybe I’ll give them another try next year -Cara

Hi there from Pullman, WA 😊
Hello there! Welcome 😀
I love this idea! I bought a dehydrator at a thrift store, and I’ve only just started dehydrating the herbs that I’ve been growing, but I never thought of dehydrating peppers. I think I’m zone seven also, I am in Long Island, New York, and a newer subscriber, and I really enjoy your videos.🥰
Ohhh what an awesome thrift store find! There are so many things you can use your dehydrator for, have fun and experiment with it too! I do a lot of seasonings, but we also really like banana chips, apple chips, jerky, spinach powder for smoothies...the list could go on and on. I do have a few videos from last year on the channel where I dehydrated different things if you want to check any of those out. Thank you so much for subscribing too! -😊Cara
@@bluebirdhomestead Oh, I'll have to look for those videos. I never thought of dehydrating fruit. I'm over run with apples from my apple tree so I'll try that!

@@bluebirdhomestead Not yet, my son has me making applesauce with every available apple.
Apple sauce is a always a good idea too :) @@CottageontheCorner
I'm from Ga. Zone 7A. I've got my fall garden in right now. Only cold crops cuz it's getting a little cool and some green beans.
That’s great! We are starting to finally feel some fall temperatures now here too 😊-Cara
I just found your channel yesterday. It is wonderful, makes me happy for spring that is starting. I have enjoyed the videos I have seen and how you love your place. I live in the upper corner of Washington state, close to the San Juan islands.
Thank you so much for your kind words. That was so thoughtful of you to leave me such a nice comment, I really appreciate that! I have never been to Washington state before, what is your growing zone there? -Cara
@@bluebirdhomestead The newest zone has us at 8b, which is what I think it was before. We have a ways before our average last frost date. But daffodils and trees are busting out in bloom. Looking forward to seeing your videos on your farm.
Hi Cara! loving your channel, you could try and ferment those peppers before drying them? the fermentation adds a funky cheese smell and taste i think you would love!
Hi! 👋 I have never experimented with fermenting foods very much before, that is something I need to try! 😊-Cara
you can watch joshua weissman's tutorial if you'd like to, really easy and great results!@@bluebirdhomestead
I will look it up, thanks for the recommendation! -😊Cara
I live in Kenya and have a small kitchen garden.
Wow all the way from Kenya! It is so much fun to hear where everyone is from thank you for sharing -😊Cara
Me too, I'm 90% blind so I grow flowers, herbs and roses for their scent. I love French lavender 💜.
How's your Christmas organising going? I've just finished making the Christmas cards today. I'll make fudge and chocolates next week. Love and blessings Cara xjx❤❤❤
I am about your eyesight, but what a blessing that you can appreciate the beautiful flowers and herbs through their smell. I love growing roses for their scent. Lavender is one of my favorites too. Our Christmas planning is going well, I just made some fudge last night myself! What kind did you make? -Cara
I'm making chocolate and toffee fudge also some chocolate bark for the children xjx
Ohhhh yum!!! those both sound delicious! @@janninehaslam9204
Just started watching you and I love this I live in England but I'm renting a room in someone else's house so I am unable to grow things. Both my grandparents ts are gardeners and I've tryed to get them the grow peppers but it didn't work very well. They have however had a massive harvest of pea and carrots, potatoes and cabbage and strawberries.
Hi!! Thank you so much for watching. Those all sound like wonderful things to harvest! My parents had gardens growing up, but what I remember the most was helping in my grandpa's garden. He absolutely loved his garden. It is wonderful that you can share that with your family as well. -Cara
Hi Cara, I'm Dee, 61, from NZ. We're into spring here now, so I've planted most of my spring/summer garden, but it's still a little chilly to put tomatoes in the garden yet. Mine are in my living room hanging out for a couple of weeks till it's warmer....our kind of national summer garden planting weekend is traditionally Labour Weekend, which is around the 22nd - 28th October, depending on where it falls each year. It's a 3 day weekend, as Labour Day is a public holiday. I try and get a wee headstart though so currently I have potatoes, 2 types of beans, snowpeas, broccoli, 4 types of lettuce, gherkin, leeks and carrots planted....soon tomatoes, zucchini, pumpkin, more cucumbers, and spring onions....oh and celery cabbage and pickling cucumbers are still grieing from seed to plant later too. Cannot wait, love to vege garden but though I love flowers I'm not so good at these. Everything produce wise is now so expensive here that I'm trying to grow all the veges myself rather than having to purchase them at the supermarket. We have no bulk place such as Costco here in NZ, so ALL groceries are very expensive now! Worse than Alaska! Anyways that me. Love your channel, and seeing what you grow, and how you use it. ❤😂
Hi Dee! Welcome all the way from NZ! It sounds like you have a beautiful garden, with a lot of produce growing! I completely understand wanting to raise veggies to help with grocery bills. We do love our Costco here, but we have noticed a huge increase in prices ever since Covid as well. Things have really sky rocketed even at the bulk food stores. I hope you have a wonderful gardening season this year -😊Cara
one of those caterpillars sent me to the hospital a few years back. not a nice experience.
OH my goodness what is the story with that?!? I know this hurt like crazy, but thankfully it only lasted 45 minutes or so. -Cara
I'm afraid of those Saddleback caterpillars! In the last week, I've seen three white Tussock that will also sting.
OHHH 😯 I have never heard of those before. I just googled it though, I will be sure to be careful about those too! 😬😬😬-Cara
@@bluebirdhomestead Yes, and I share the pictures with my kids because caterpillars are so tempting to pick up. I need to work on my roselle hibiscus, but I'm scared after finding those tussocks there🤣
I am glad you shared it with them! It is such a vibrant green color too, little fingers may be tempted -Cara
Hi dear my name is natalyn i am the caribbean I just started my garden
Hi Natalyn! What are you growing in your garden? :) -Cara
I am doing carrots beans cabbage sweet peppers and bell peppers no hot ones also doing pumpkin and beets also sweet potatoes
Hi Cara! I wanted to ask if you have any tips for peppers? Mine is struggling to grow and has been getting attacked by everything! It's a scorpion pepper. We just had a swarm of aphids but the wild ladybugs came through 🎉. Do you have advice for getting them to grow big and have nice produce?
Noooo i wanted to hear your singing 😂❤ youre such a lovely soul. I just found your channel and im loving it! I could watch harvest videos all day ❤
Hi! What is your growing zone? I know some people will dig up their peppers and put them in a pot to overwinter them indoors so the plants start out bigger the next season. I take an organic approach to gardening so I don't spray for aphids, but try to plant host plants that I don't mind getting destroyed by aphids. I have noticed they really like arugula and radishes in my garden and will attack those plants first. I also typically give all my plants some liquid fish fertilizer if they need a boost. Good compost and soil in your garden is key too. I hope that helps some.
Hahah you defiantly don't want to hear my singing 😂 😂 at least on that clip specifically, I got busy chopping and just started singing without realizing it. It gave me a good laugh when I was editing it though. 😂-Cara
@bluebirdhomestead I'm in Zone 12 😅. I've been asking some of the elders who have lived in this area and they say they're surprised I even got some of my crops to produce due to the bugs. I have faith that it will work out!! 🥲
I should definitely look into host plants! And the liquid fish fertilizer- I hear a lot of good about it. I've been cover cropping to help with the first beds we did and we cleared it yesterday- soil looks amazing! Hopefully it's not too hot and I can get some nasturtiums to grow this year! I'll see if I can get arugula or radishes to sprout as those beds have shade from midday onwards. Thanks!!
That is great! Wow zone 12, I bet you can grow lots of citrus! that is one thing I would love to be able to grow here. The fish fertilizer is very strong a little bit goes a long way, be warned it is stinky haha -Cara
My sugar rush peach looks like your lemon drop. Just loaded. You should try again. I haven’t tried lemon drop but the sugar rush peach are pretty hot even when fully ripe…fyi.
That is awesome! I will defiantly give them another try next year! I am glad to hear that they have been doing so well for you that is good to know. Thanks for the tip on the spice too -😊Cara
I wonder if the serrano peppers are hot when red? My husband says our red jalapenos taste like a bell pepper, not at all hot. I am fermenting 2 quarts and 2 half gallons of peppers so far, hope they turn out good. We do not have enough power to run the dehydrator to dry the peppers off grid. Take care.
It sounds like you have been busy in the kitchen the season! I am not sure about the the heat level at the different stages of ripeness/different colors. I will have to test that out next time I harvest some! -Cara 😊
Hey Cara, Kelsi from Queensland Australia (subtropical). I live with my daughter on a 450sm suburban block. As we rent we grow in pots and bucket gardens. We have over 40 varieties of fruits, vegetables and herbs in our small back yard which is only 25m x 5 m. We raise 6 small egg layers and have recently purchased a hive of native stingless bees. I begun canning about 12mths ago and am obsessed! 😊
Hi Kelsi! Welcome from Australia, I have never traveled there before, but art sounds beautiful. Over 40 varieties!?! Wow I am impressed! I wish we could grow more tropical fruits, but it just is not warm enough here to do that. That is really smart to have everything in pots too, so that you can take them with you if you ever move. Tell me more about this stingless bee! I would love to raise bees for honey, but the sting factor is the main thing stopping me. -😊Cara
@@bluebirdhomestead we have a breed call "the sugar bag bee" they are so cute and little, only about the size of a small black fly. They aren't huge honey producers due to their size only make around 1 L pre year. But their honey has alot more medical properties then regular honey. And at $300 per kg (about $450 us dollars) it's much cheaper paying the $550 for a hive of my own. We are going to be using our honey to make all natural cough drops so we don't have to buy sugar and additive laced ones from the store. Australia has so many amazing natice medicinal plants, spice, fruits and even vegetables. We can it "bush tucker" here.
That sound slick such a wonderful bee! Bonus for the natural cough drops!
noodle salad,
Yum!
What pepper variety have you found to produce the most?
lemon drop produced the most per bush for us this year.
Hello
😊😊hello
That powder did look nice. Did you add non spicy pepper to it!?
I did. I had a higher ratio of spicy peppers in this blend. I have two jars in my spice cabinet now, one that is a hotter blend and one that is milder. -Cara
@@bluebirdhomestead cool! I bet it tastes way better than what is in the stores too..
I'm in Virginia Prince George area a town called Disputanta, where in Virginia are you?
Nice a fellow Virginia resident 😊👋 We don’t give out our exact location, but we are in zone 7 in Virginia -Cara
How long will the pepper blend last?
We typically use ours up pretty quickly, but around a year in a dark air tight container. You could also freeze some in an air tight container for long term storage. -😊Cara
