My suspension was showa and I had race tech go through it and set it up for my weight and they were perfect. Going fast through rough whoops it felt smooth like a Cadillac but it also didn't bottom out over jumps
the easiest way is to put a new carb on it. either a lectron billetron or a keihin pwk 38mm airstriker. the mikunis are extremely hard to jet unless you put 2 hours a day into it to get it jetted right. also new reeds help a lot with power. I think for the rc valve the end of the screw should be around 12mm sticking out from the bottom, that's what I set mine at and haven't had any problems!
I would rebuild the top end and put new rings in it. I would get a FMF knarly pipe and a FMF silencer. I would also get a kiehan or a lectron a smart carburetor is supposed to be awesome but I haven't owned a smart carburetor but the lectron and kiehan work perfect on my bike's. Boyeson reed's are great and a good air filter makes a difference and I would check the sprockets to make sure they have the correct amount of teeth
Literally…I have a 2002 CR250 with only about 20 total hours on it. Suspension is done by PR2 Racing, but everything else bone stock! Literally almost brand spanking new. Great bike, runs excellent, handles like a dream. Still has the beautiful stock exhaust intact. Lovely MX bike! Great riding Jordan. Excellent to say the least!
I think it's funny that you guys say 21-year-old bike like that's supposed to be old it's a 2002 it is new it is not old old is air-cooled two stroke early 80s and before I guess I should take my 1985 truck and say rebuilding an antique whenever it's just a truck that's not even that old
It's an old 2 smoker... keep the revs up, when in doubt clutch kick the fuk out of it, but you need to keep it in the high rpm(power band)... set that tired ass suspension for your weight n riding style, 4 strokes are for the younger generation... loaded with tourqe modern fuel injection and suspension, to get the best out of a 2 stroke, it's all about the pipe, the jets.. and suspension set up to how u ride.... full send, great vlog btw
I have just literally finished rebuilding one of these definitely a full rebuild needed then set up the power valve and put a lectron carb on it Then all you got to try and do is hold on to it still a vibrating bike though😁 Plus the RC valve does not stand for Ricky Carmichael 😂
Replace your reads, clean and rebuild your carb/ or swap out for lectron. Get rid of that shit 87 octane gas that guy left in it from two years ago. Rebuild top end, replace RC valve cables and clutch cable. New air filter, Rebuild your front and rear shocks and set them up for you. (It probably doesn’t even in have oil in any piece of suspension if you have to pump up your rear brake that much to work)😂. The RC valves aren’t that bad, 95%of people won’t out ride the 10k RPM limiter or get even close to it. Do all that and you’ll have a bike that feels brand new for $700. It’ll be cheaper if you just rebuild the carb and not get a new one. Jetting kit isn’t that expensive and it’s not really that hard to Jett a mikuni. Go down a tooth in front, replace brake lines and pads/ rebuild on calipers/ master cylinder. That would be where I would start. Then bars/foot pegs/ controls/ levers/ plastics. to your liking and brand. Of course make sure everything is in acceptable condition once you start diving in…. And then don’t listen to people on the internet on why a 2002 sucks. We are all idiots! It’s a great bike/year. I’ve had mine for 7 years with no turning back, routine/ preventative maintenance and if Runs like a top and has never let me down like every four stroke has.
I’ve seen this bike for sale a few times around my area and the bike is completely clapped out and the guy was asking £3500 I believe and the way I noticed it was the terrible graphics with the eBay special carbon and the nice weld on the left side of the frame from where it was badly cracked. Personally I think your very brave to ride it but more stupid to buy it but personally I would expose the guy you brought it from on how badly he maintained the bike but wants top dollar
Get used to that trash suspension. Got a ‘97 cr250. With a lectron it screams but other than that, the bike sucks on turns. Still wouldn’t trade it for anything though 💀

Vlogs are sick mate can’t wait to see Steve fully built
Thanks man me too!
Look forward to seeing the video of your rebuild 👍👍
Like your video. I am currently about to finish up my 02 CR. I have been working on it for 3 years full restore. Slow due to the expense
Bet it’s going to be awesome!
I love those vlogs
I have a 2002, first get rid of the garbage Mikuni carb and get a Lectron, then have the suspension set up for your weight and riding style.
My suspension was showa and I had race tech go through it and set it up for my weight and they were perfect. Going fast through rough whoops it felt smooth like a Cadillac but it also didn't bottom out over jumps

the best thing I did for consistent power was the lectron on it.
Thanks Shawn! A lot of people are saying this… I’ll give the lectron a try
Still the best shape of plastics. Keep 2 stroke alive 💨🤌
Agreed! Would never put a restyle kit on
Will be uploading the build on Steve?

Awesome riding dude and great project!🔥
Killing it in the vlogs!
Thanks bro!
That's for sure clutch side crank seal smoke. That "bit of oil" is likely mostly trans oil lol. Worth a quick look at the oil level in there mate
Thanks man, guess I'd better get my tools out!
keep um coming
Will do!
My 96 cr250 still does 5th gear wheelies
Good vlog can’t wait for the next one
Thanks!!
The best tip - get the workshop manual!
Carb clean, new intake, fox suspension and run through the engine to make sure everything is ok
Definitely need to take the motor apart!
Can't beat the noise of a 2 stroke
Are you going to do a build serie? Great content 😁
Yes! I'll try and document as much of the build as possible!
Brought one of them in 07 and still have it
Sick! Any advice?
You need to change the gas to oil ratio its running to rich that's the oil on the exhaust. And it will help if you re jet it.
Yeah I was thinking this!
Sick bike. Sounded pretty damn good for being 21 years old!
I agree! Quite impressive

the RC doesn't stand for Ricky Carmichael mate it stands for remote control

@@jordanbooker No, actually its the first aluminum frame! The 97 was the last of the steel frames.
