Great reaction! I want to clear something up, when we meet Lando, think of it as sort of a foreign accent that he has, of course even with the standard Galactic language spoken throughout many systems, there are localized accents and dialects, so it's normal that like Countries each system or planet has its own unique slang, terms, accents and pronunciation, like for example USA and Britain, so when Lando is saying Han the way he does, it's like a localized accent, but the way you say it it's the way it's originally intended to sound.
Also, I just want to recommend you something, I don't know if you have already watched Episode VI but in case you haven't, I just wanted to suggest you watching them in the Machete Order, meaning from here going back to episodes 1, 2 & 3 and then lastly watching episode 6, it's not necessarily the superior order but it's a definitely a more emotional and effective in some ways, way of watching the trilogies, I'd definitely recommend it!
The question here is... "Is Lando just... like... wearing Han's clothes?!? That's totally his blue vest and white shirt! It's not like you two guys both shop for blue vests and white shirts at the same store! Did you just... totally sell him out to the Empire, take his ship, AND steal his clothes?!?" Damnit Lando, you better pull some awesome redeeming shit out of your ass in the next movie, because that's some fucked-up shit to do to a guy. If I don't see you saving Han from some severely toothy vagina dentata in the next one, I am going to be *so* pissed off at you, pretty much forever!
@@matthill5426: He does.
*Vader:* "Join me"
*ANGELINA:* "Not after you cut off my forearm!"
*Me:* "And people hate Jake Lloyd playing *NINE* year old Anakin in Episode one..... *WHY* exactly?!?!?!?"
Everything was inspired by Star Wars. Noah build his Arc after seeing the Deathstar in the first movie.😁
It's not unexpected that you wouldn't recognize Luke at the beginning. A couple of years before the release of this film, Mark Hammil was in a auto accident that led to some facial reconstruction.
They actually wrote in the opening scene specifically to explain away his facial scarring as the result of being "mauled".
Him in that hospital bed after being rescued, with all those stitches and bruising? That was his actual face post accident.
@@nathanmalreaux6512 George Lucas has denied that the whole Luke vs. the wampa thing was written to explain Mark Hamill’s changed face, and the car wreck was before the first movie was even finished - so, yes, Hamill’s actual face; but, no, not the actual stitches and bruising from the years earlier wreck.
@@markhamstra1083 yes! here is the proof man, so sick of people saying this when it ain’t true ua-cam.com/users/shortspTX760GXkvw?feature=share

Just imagine what a big twist Yoda was when this movie was new; nobody imagined an old Jedi master being a tiny, goofy alien sounding like a Muppet (because he's actually voiced by the actor who plays a bunch of the Muppets)
This movie could never have the same impact today with all the spoilers. It was a beautiful time to be a Star Wars fan!
najhoant- His name is Frank Oz.
@@rosskl Even at the time most people knew that was really Yoda going into the movie, because of marketing.
@@Logan_Baron Who knew? I, and all my friends, had no idea who Yoda was going into the cinema. We assumed the creature we saw might help Luke find Yoda, but for Yoda to be that little weird creature was a complete surprise to everyone I knew. Maybe grown ups had some inkling, but for us kids it was an amazing revelation.
I didn't know who Yoda was going to be at that time. He was on the poster, but he could've been anyone. It surprised me too when I realized he was yoda. I bought into the idea he was taking Luke to yoda.
"I can't believe it."
"That...is why you fail."

@@ANGELINAA 4:15 YUP!
And it explains a lot about the force through just those two lines. The Force itself treats the spaceship as a spaceship, water as water... and it dun matter the state of either. Truly believing 'I can move it' enables you to do so... more or less. there's of course a level of force-sensitivity and mental strength needed. and the actual 'full belief' you can do it as well, which is VERY hard to do. Imagine convincing yourself right now, that you can walk through busy traffic blindfolded and not get hit because the force will guide you.... it'd be something you'd need to repeatedly train for, meditate on, etc. to even begin approaching being able to do so.
Vader was toying with Luke when he was fighting him. If you know the SW lore you know Vader actually did have strong loving paternal instincts (even if he did show them in very strange ways). Before Vader found out Luke was his son he felt completely alone. When he did find out his mindset dramatically changed. He became obsessed with convincing his son to join him, overthrow the Emperor, and rule by his side. If Vader wanted to kill Luke he would have done so easily
Unfortunately for Vader, by next movie he was once again without hope and completely subservient, back to fully believing that there was no possible way for the Emperor to be defeated.
It's funny in a way. Vader really tried twice to overthrow the Emperor and both times it was to rule with someone he cared out.
And the fact the dark side of the force is literally a corruptable thing, so it's less of a selfless parental love with that in the mix, and more of a parental obsession, bloodline-ruling and tyranny through familial ruling.
But, you still have that core center of 'Luke is my son, I do not want him to die... I must ensure he joins the dark side'.
@kinagrill
Which by the end of RotJ turns wholly to "Luke is my son, I do not want him to die." 👍
Fun fact Carrie Fisher in her book said the chemistry wasn't just on screen. She and Harrison Ford had a thing going off screen for a bit over the years of star wars filming
And it is messed up considering Ford was married with 2 kids at the time
@@deadmanwalking8740 It didn't do much good for Carrie either. Her diaries are pretty heartbreaking.
and apparently mark hammil had no idea and was completely oblivious lol
@@jennnafish9746 and this is why he was perfectly cast as Luke 😂😂😂
Edit: along with being the best ever
Rumor has it that there was quite a bit of „chemistry“ around the set in general - and a lot of partying not necessarily restricted to booze…
In defence of Lando he really didnt have a choice, he was responsible for everyone in the cloud city.
True... Vader may well have had the place blown to bits in a fit of spite. Star Destroyer barrage.
As a kid, I found it scary when I couldn't peg a character as a "good guy" or a "bad guy". Five-year-olds aren't ready for gray areas.
As an adult, I think Lando did the best he could THE ENTIRE TIME.
Any other course(s) of action that he could have taken may well have gotten many people killed.
@@NuclearFridge1 I can’t tell if your saying there’s a chance that he did or he could have done it if he wanted to but if it’s the first option then it’s not true because you can see cloud city in the battlefront 2 campaign which is after episode 6 and it’s in episode 9 at the end I’m pretty sure
Haven't you seen star wars rebels?! Lando meets Ezra Bridger set 6 years later after He met Qi'ra, Han's formerly girlfriend. Then it was Ezra that he told at Lando that Luke Is Anakin's son
At that point, everyone knows about Alderaan. If you're in charge of a city and the Empire shows up, you're trying to do anything you can to save your city. From Lando's point of view, most of the Empire can be somewhat bargained with. Vader is obsessed and will hedge his bets however he can in order to get Luke.
When Leia says “I love you” and Han says “I know”, the original script had Han replying “I love you too”. Harrison Ford approached Lucas before shooting the scene and pitched the idea of him saying “I know” because he felt it’s something his character would actually say. Lucas said “Ok” and they filmed both the original line, and Ford’s take. In editing, George and Kirshner agreed that the “I know” worked best, and went with that.
Actually, Lucas wasn't on the set that day. After reading the scripted line, Kirshner had Ford improv a couple responses, and when he said, "I know", they decided on that one.
“Empire Strikes Back is better than ANH.”
She has spoken.
...the truth
The people who think A New Hope is better actually terrify me
Where is the lie?
@@CoryGasaway they are simple creatures. ANH is easier to watch, like thevfirst 2 HP movies, which is nice sometimes.
Not "blasphemy" at all, it's generally considered the best one. It's my favorite hands down.
Will always love Han not hesitating to draw and shoot the second he saw Vader (even if it didn't work)
Not one second’s hesitation!
Well yeah, Han shoots first.
I also love the way he throws his other arm back and pushes Leia behind him to protect her. His does something similar on Hoth, when he sees the roof caving in and he grabs her, throws her down, and then shields her with his own body. A lot of people get mad at Han for not saying "I love you, too," but I sort of feel like he's been saying it to her in little ways during their time together in the rebellion, and we see the physical examples of it in this film.
Another Hoth moment that often gets missed is that Han fights his way INTO the heart of the base when nearly everyone else is gone, it's just Leia and the command center crew left. He comes in asking if she's all right, says he isn't going to leave until he gets her to her transport. Ofc, she pulls away, staying with her troops and issuing commands, but then they get that alert: "Imperial troops have entered the base." He takes her arm and tells her quietly, "That's it." And there is some worry and fear on her face; neither one of them wants her to fall into Imp hands and be tortured again, but it's seeing the fear and concern on HIS face for her well being that makes her go with him. It really is beautiful the way we get little hints that has been some history building up between them.
I was a teenager when Empire Strikes Back came out. I went to a midnight showing. The theater was packed. When the Star Wars logo appeared on screen the people in the theater cheered. It was a magical night.
The Empire's HR department does realize that they have quite the revolving door in the Vader management team. They sent a couple of people to discuss the matter . . . .they never came back.
laughing at this
Imperial Commander: Welcome to orientation day here on the jolly old Death Star! Now, there are a few things we want to go over with you concerning Lord Vader.
(The viewscreen turns on, showing an image of Darth Vader Force-choking an officer)
Imperial Commander: First and foremost, he thinks he has the power to strangle us. Truth is, he doesn't. If he ever realized this, he would kill us with his lightsaber. Thus, to keep us safe, we all pretend to get strangled. Okay, let's try and practice. Commander Winston here will assist me.
(The viewscreen turns off, and Commander Winston walks up and stands next to the commander)
Imperial Commander: I'm going to hold out my hand like Lord Vader, and he will pretend to get strangled.
(The commander does a "Force-choke", and Commander Winston starts going through the motions of getting strangled)
Imperial Commander: Gasping for air...grabs throat, yes...eyes back and he's DOWN!
(Winston falls to the ground, apparently dead)
Imperial Commander: Good show, Commander!
(Two men enter, grab Winston, and pull him out of the room)
Imperial Commander: Now, two of the floor chiefs will retrieve the "corpse", redress him, add a mustache, and he's back to work as "Lieutenant Leopold"!
("Leopold" reenters and waves)
Imperial Commander: Vader has the satisfaction of killing someone, and we stay amongst the living! Why, "Private Perkins" over there has been strangled over 30 times! Haven't you, "Perkins"?
(The view shifts to an officer wearing "Groucho Marx" glasses, and a large, fake, beard)
Imperial Commander: Ha, ha, ha! Good man!
@@Retailman100 ROTFLMAO!

7:42 Fun fact: Mark Hamill had a serious car before shooting these scenes. So, instead of putting make up to cover his scares, they decided to keep them. To make it look as if Luke was seriously hurt from his capture. Also, that tank Luke was in is a healing tank.
Got to be careful of those serious cars.
"Not Darth Vader being able to kill an entire zoom classroom if he wanted to,"
OH BOY
The twist ending shocked Audiences everywhere when they saw the big reveal in who Darth Vader really is
It shocked most of the cast too. Only Mark Hamill and James Earl Jones knew about the twist among the cast. In the script the line was along the lines of, “Obi-Wan killed your father.” When the movie premiered Harrison Ford turned to Mark Hamill and said, “Hey kid, you didn’t f***ing tell me that.”
I remember it shocked me.
Hears Ange mention "Vader killing an entire class"
Immediately thinks of Order 66
lol im hoping no one else has commented this yet, but mark hamill actually got into a car accident between filming the first movie and this one, and suffered injuries to his face. the snowy wampa attack was used to explained the characters slightly different appearance
I love the vision quest scene in the cave. A very subtle yet terrifying message:
“If you can’t master your anger, it will destroy you. Even if you manage to kill Vader, the most likely outcome is that you will become Vader.”
"What's in there?"
"Only what you take with you." Fear, anger, hatred...
But it also have another message to it, depending on how Luke had handled it... You still need to fight and control your own darkness. It's literally a key mindset for a Jedi to realize and accept they have a part of them that lean towards the Dark Side.... to accept it and control it, even conquer it and be at peace with it. It's part of you after all and trying to deny it can only end badly with self-denial or fall to the dark side because of it.
@@kinagrill The Old Extended Universe actually covered that when Luke gets to a point where he can throw Light based Force Lightning without turning evil. I don't remember what he officially titled it but when he pulls it out; he's not messing around around and he wrecks people.
Alright.... here we go. Just so you know, I have a good reputation of explaining Star Wars to "new fans" because I enjoy (or more accurately, live vicariously through) younger people who are seeing this franchise for the first time. A smidgeon of background, real fast: I was 13 in 1980 when this movie was released originally. I saw "A New Hope" in theaters before it was subtitled "A New Hope". Back then, it was just plain old "Star Wars". That said, I sat in theaters multiple times for each successive movie. Now, I abhor posting spoilers, so you won't get those out of me (except for posting the actual timeline). However, what I DO enjoy is explaining the movie you just watched, as well as how certain things connect to what you've already seen. If one of your questions would result in a spoiler for future content, I'll either not address it, or I'll simply say, "You have to keep watching".
I use time indices to address parts of the reaction, But you'll see that in a few minutes.
2:16 - The original Star Wars (A New Hope) is referenced as "Year Zero" for the timeline. The "Battle of Yavin" as it's called is considered 0 BY (Battle of Yavin) as that's when the Death Star was destroyed. Empire Strikes Back takes place 3 years later, so in the timeline, it takes place in 3 ABY (After the Battle of Yavin). I'll break down the entire timeline at the end of this comment.
2:29 - That is called a "Tauntaun". Basically it's a cross between a horse and a kangaroo.
3:25 - Actually, the budget for this movie was a bit higher than the original. But more on that later...
7:35 - That's called a "Bacta Tank". Bacta is a fluid in the Star Wars universe that aids in healing superficial wounds.
9:20 - Those are "All Terrain Armoured Transports", commonly known as either "AT-ATs", or "Imperial Walkers". That's the "big ones"... there is a smaller version that you'll see in a minute or two that are called "All Terrain Scout Transports", commonly known as "AT-STs", or "Chicken Walkers" (because they kinda look like chickens).
8:45 - No, that wasn't "a little stop motion", that was "a LOT of stop motion". We didn't really have CGI back then, so stop motion, it was.
12:18 - "He's so sassy!" R2-D2 is so sassy, they bleep out everything he says. 😉😁😁
13:00 - Uhhh.... yeah... you're just going to have to keep watching to find out why Vader is like that. *But make sure you go in Release Order for the first 6 movies. You'll understand later.
14:05 - Yes. Yoda was a "practical" effect performed by Frank Oz, who also voiced him. More on Yoda later, though.
16:50 - While this universe isn't technically "Science Fiction", your question CAN be answered through physics as we understand it. Yes, an asteroid of sufficient size and mass CAN create it's own gravity field.
17:34 - Yes, those animals WERE real.
18:00 - I have to be careful here... but what Luke experienced was a "Force Vision". I will elaborate more after you've seen Episode VI.
19:20 ish - Yoda was showing Luke that it's the limitations of his own belief in himself that is holding him back. That's why Yoda got the ship free. Yoda fully believes in himself, therefor a "lack of confidence" isn't holding him back.
24:20 - Han's name is pronounced differently by different people. "In universe", it depends on someone's planet of origin, due to accents. "IRL", it's just accents.
Also, notice how I am saying NOTHING about how Vader handles this duel. There's a reason for it, and I'll get to it later.
28:08 - No, it's not blasphemous. Many Star Wars fans consider Empire to be the best of the Original Trilogy. That doesn't mean any of the others are bad, just that this one is the best of the three.
On Yoda: Yoda was a practical puppet for the original trilogy. He was operated and voice by Frank Oz, who also did Miss Piggy and Fozzy Beat from The Muppet Show.
As for the Duel between Luke and Vader... Vader, as stated by Obi-Wan in A New Hope, was a fully trained Jedi at one time. For the first several parts of the duel, he was "toying" with Luke, to see how far his skills had been honed. It wasn't until Luke managed to get a strike in on Vader's shoulder armour that Vader decided enough was enough, and "disarmed" him.
Now, the timeline... I won't include the years of when each thing takes place, just the order chronologically that they go:
Episode I, Episode II, The Clone Wars (animated series), Episode III, The Bad Batch (animated), [Kenobi - Upcoming live action series], Solo: A Star Wars Story, Rebels (animated), Rogue One, Episodes IV, V, VI, The Mandalorian (live action series) seasons 1 and 2, The Book of Boba Fett, [upcoming] The Mandalorian season 3, Episodes VII, VIII, IX. There are 2 other "live action" series in production aside from Kenobi... but I'm not exactly sure where they fit in the timeline.
Who are you?

Jim Henson and Frank Oz were not just "of Muppets fame", they WERE the Muppets. Which means technically Yoda is also a Muppet.

@@markhamstra1083 I heard that they were inspired by the cranes at the Port of Oakland, visible from the BART trains.
Anthony Daniels doesn't get enough love for the work he put into 3PO. Suffering in that costume for the art.
17:59 The meaning of that scene is twofold. The first being that if Luke Skywalker embraces the dark side, then he too could become just like Darth Vader. Vader had the same temptations to the dark side as Luke does now, and Vader succumbed to his temptations, making him into the person he is now. Its a warning to Luke about where embracing the Dark Side can take you -- towards becoming the very thing you hate.
The 2nd meaning is obvious, if you reach the end of the film. That Darth Vader is himself a Skywalker (Luke's father). Its pretty clever foreshadowing, given that the scene has a meaning that can be interpreted apart from the film's plot twist, but now with that plot twist, the meaning is twofold.
It's actually a bit more straightforward than that. Yoda said Luke didn't need to bring his weapons, but Luke brought them anyway, which signaled that he was going in with aggression and not trusting the Force to protect him. Sith go on the offensive, not Jedi, therefore the visions Luke experienced in the cave were a warning that he could end up where Vader was if he continued to go down the path of aggression and fear. Luke's "temptations" were nothing like his father's. Luke hadn't experienced a corrupted and failing order of Jedi trying to force him not to healthily embrace his emotions, nor was he in an unhealthy possessive relationship with a secret lover. Nor did he have an apprentice of his own who was unfairly expelled from the order by his masters, which bred further distrust and anger toward the Jedi way. Luke wasn't seeking power to heal trauma he had experienced involving loss, etc.
In the first movie they needed to flesh out the characters, which does take some time. In this film, they didn't have to do that, so you have a faster pace. If droids could get medals R2-D2 would be covered with bling. The prequels have better CGI, but the story and chemistry are better in these three films.
Well yes it the story is better. I've looked at quite a few videos of people explaining things of the prequels including George Lucas himself and after all that I think the story's a lot better than I used to think.
Angelina: I forgot the Force was a thing! Me: Chokes on Coffee from shock and laughter! LOL that was great.
I'm 55, and I saw the Original Trilogy in theaters during its original theatrical run, from age 11 to age 16. I was 13 going on 14 when I first saw this movie, and I would say that it pretty much changed my life, even more than the first movie had (and that had been a major change). This movie made me a serious fan, and it's my very favorite of all the films as well, even today. It's more mature than the original, and the characters have clearly grown. (Some film critics back then even said it was a better film than the first one, so you're not alone in your feelings.) I also believe it's John Williams' finest film score ever, out of all the amazing scores he's composed. I think it's very operatic, deeply emotional, and the orchestration has some wonderful complexity that I don't hear all that often in his film scores. I even wrote to him back in 1981, shortly after he had begun conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra, and I told him so. Ange, no joke, he actually wrote me back, on Boston Pops letterhead, thanking me for the kind words about his music, and talking about other things I asked him about. He's such an awesome guy.
Heh another that was there in the cinema. I was beginning to think I was part of a dying breed.
Appreciate the humor, you’re actually really funny and so too is the editing job. An elephant mixed with the head of a turtle and the legs of a giraffe, priceless 😂
Fun fact: Luke (Mark Hamill) was in a car accident shortly before filming this one so the ‘battle wounds’ you see on him from his fight with the Yeti weren’t fake 😉
ooops lol, should have read comments before making one lol
"was in a car accident shortly before filming"
Stop talking nonsense. The car accident was before ANH was even released in theaters, two years before they began filming ESB.
I actually dug the 'Deh buh nah' joke. Pretty much encompassed all our feelings when we first saw the swamp Luke landed in....lol. Made me chuckle.
That's the common reaction and take now but upon its release it was apparently a divisive film.
Guess some things never change. Couple more interesting bits of trivia.
*The yeti (wompa) attack at the start, might have been written to accommodate for the scars Mark Hamill gained in a car accident between films. His face needed some reconstructive surgery.
*Harrison Ford ad libbed the "I know" line since he felt it fit Han's character better than to say "I love you" back.
*The Emperor was originally a woman hidden in shadow and make up and dubbed by a voice actor. When the prequals were being made Lucas reshot the scene with the Emperor's actor and put it in the special edition.

“I didn’t know he sounded like this”
That’s because Yoda is Frank Oz, The same puppeteer and voice actor who did Miss piggy.
Funny you say "don't look at me, I'm a peasant".
When she says "Nerf-herder" she's actually using a person of low class (in this case a shepherd of Nerfs) as an insult, basically calling him "peasant" in a derogatory manner. So yeah, she's being extremely classist 😂
Such a great movie, looking forward to seeing your reaction.
I love it, that you couldn't recognize Luke at the beginning.
The background story is that the actor who plays Luke - Mark Hammil - had a quite unfortunate motor bike accident.
The following facial surgerys changed his face.
So George Lucas had to come up with a reason, why Luke didn't look the same, anymore.
Well, a face punch by a Yeti creature seemed to be convincing.
And that's the whole reason why they did the scene at the beginning of the movie, when Luke is attacked by a Monster 😉
Car accident, not motorcycle. And George Lucas has denied that this was the reason for the wampa attack.
The Hoth scenes were shot in Finse, Norway on the Hardangerjøkulen glacier. In the scenes were Luke ran from the Wampa's cave and when he was talking to Obi-Wan about training with Yoda it was so cold out that filming was done about 15 feet from the hotel the cast and crew were using.
That hair toss at 4:29 had me in stitches. Glad you finally got to this movie, it's my all time favorite. Excited to see your brand continue to grow!
It's so fun to watch you enjoy these films.
First off, this film came three years after the first. These first three were released in 1977, 1980, and 1983.
Second, it is definitely NOT blasphemous to like Empire Strikes Back more than A New Hope. If I am not mistaken, most Star Wars fans rate this as the best of all the films.
I look forward to your reaction to Return of the Jedi and the conclusion of the original trilogy!
There's also a comic canon to Empire Strikes. A scene deleted from Star Wars where Leila finds the carbonite chamber and gets tossed into it and is carbonite frozen.
“No, I am your father” totally shook my world when I saw this as a 6 year old. I didn’t believe him AT ALL.
23:22 He was actually supposed to say :"I love you too". But On the set, Harrison Ford just thought that it wasn't like Han Solo to answer that, so he just improvised and replied "I Know." Director liked it, and they kept it that way.
Who is your favorite STAR WARS Character is from THIS film? :) ~
boBaFeT AYEE
Chewy is my favorite character.
Boba Fett 👍
The wampa attack in the beginning is to explain why Luke has scars in his face. Mark Hamill was in an accident prior to filming and had undergone reconstructive surgery.
The Battle of Hoth was filmed on the training grounds for the Norwegian Home Guard, and many of the Rebel troopers were Norwegian servicemen. There was a massive blizzard during the trip to Norway so the scene of Luke seeing Ben and Han finding him was shot in their hotel parking lot.
This film has the least amount of alterations for the "Special Edition" The main ones are more wampa footage, the Emperor being changed from an weird spliced together old woman with chimp eyes to Sir Ian McDairmond, added CG shots of Cloud City, and removing walls to make Cloud City less claustrophobic.
The only people who knew the Big Reveal before release were George Lucas, Lawrence Kasdan, Irwin Kirschner, Mark Hamill, and James Earl Jones. The line in the scripts everyone else had and was spoken on set by Dave Prowse was "Obi-Wan killed your father."
also the part where they changed vaders face when luke beheaded him in his vision while training with Yoda.
I wont say whos face they changed to for spoiler reasons.

@@JustinWillisDevil240Z yes it was. Don't reply unless you know what you're talking about. The facts are the facts.
@@JustinWillisDevil240Z it was never changed, and it's always been Luke's face. It was showing what he would become if we gave in to his fear and stuff like that. If you want to start an argument so bad, at least make sense. You're doing an atrocious job at it so far.
i love your editing! you go the extra mile and its so fun to watch :D I'm slowly going through your reactions and loving every one
Yoda's not only a puppet, he's a muppet. He was voiced by Frank Oz, who played the Fozzie Bear
Quite a bit of time passed between a New Hope and this movie. So the reason why Han and Leah are more argumentative, I hope I'll use that word right, it's because they had a fling in between the timeline in the movies and Leia doesn't want to admit it because it's han. She considers it a mistake at the beginning of the movie.
Mark Hamill was in a car accident before this movie and had some facial damage. The "stitches" helped cover the differences in his face from Ep. 4.
Mark Hamill was in a car accident between A new hope and empire strikes back. So they came up with the face damage at beginning of filming. The accident changed the shape of his face.
The tank of fluid Luke was in is called a Bacta tank. Bacta promotes advanced healing for any physical condition, in Luke's case hyperthermia and frostbite.
@@rogerroger5171 oh i know I am a Expanded Universe/Legends veteran lol
@@terryduke6502 Oh, I said that cause Ange was asking, "why is he in that tank of water"?? lol
Nice review! Your reactions bring big smiles and laughs-out-loud 🤩
Here is my Like and Comment before watching for our algorithm overlords.
Oh and I forgot to mention that I love BLT's for breakfast. Just an interesting tidbit I thought you'd be interested in knowing.
Mark (the actor for Luke) got in a motorcycle accident and those scars in the beginning are real. They added that beginning scene because of it
James Earl Jones: "When I first read that line, 'Luke, I am your father', my first thought was, '...He's lying. I wonder how they're going to play that lie out...'"
Ang doing her Ang thing. Not sure if anyone has mentioned it or not but a big part of the reason for the yeti (not really what it's called) at the beginning was b/c Mark Hammil had a really bad car accident between the 1st and 2nd movies so they put something in to explain his scars. Probably why they looked so real... lol
7:44 fun fact: Mark Hamill got into a car accidents (i think) before shooting this film. So they had to rewrite the script to "explain" the stitches on his face.
There's a web series called The Mandalorian which is about a bounty hunter trying to save a baby Yoda.
Hey Angelina! Just wanted to stop by and say I think you are one of the most wholesome people on here and your videos are always really fun to watch! ❤️
AW thank youuuu ! ~
There were 2 meanings behind what happened in the cave. The first was that if Luke was not careful then he would follow in Vader's footsteps, and the 2nd was that Luke was in no way ready to take on someone at Vader's level in a lightsaber dual. This was proven true later on and he got lucky in that Vader allowed him to leave. In the book when Luke fell there was a moment when Vader uses the force to lift him up and then hesitates, stops and lets him fall, this was not shown in the movie.
The plot continues in Return of the Jedi.
Yoda was a puppet at this time, created by Stuart Freeborn, who took his dmown face as inspiration ( look at a picture of him) and was moved and spoken by Frank Oz who also voiced and played Miss Piggy.
I absolutely loved this video!!
I’ve always been a fan of the franchise since I was a kid and I’ve also known a lot of people who were fans of the movies since I was young too. Watching someone enjoy the series for the first time is actually so refreshing and I thank you for making these videos. It’s so satisfying seeing you react to all the twists and turns.
I immediately stopped what I was doing to watch this. You're in for a treat in the next movie ;)
9:14 "I know what you mean" because I literally was last man standing at battle of Yavin and slapped a couple torpedoes into the Death Star.
I love Star Wars so much! Every bit of it😊❤️
Angelina please do more reactions with the whole Star Wars series. Love your commentary on these videos, very campy and fun. 😁👍
im so glad you're watching star wars lol. i gotta watch the first video after this but im excited to see you react to this movie!!!
I’ve been looking forward to your Star Wars reactions!
This was a great reaction! I was having a bad morning and, among other things, this helped me feel better!
The absolute best performance puppeteering in cinema history. You straight up forget yoda isnt actually there. Frank Oz went absolute BEAST his abilities, legend.
Everything has a gravitational pull. If we were alone in space together, we would orbit each other until we collide. Though due to our size (compared to planets) it'd be slow and softly, not quick and violently, lol.
"Why doesn't Luke just yeet himself back up from the cloud antenna?" It's easier to focus when you're not in pain. Having both hands is pretty painless X3
It's "H'on". Saying "H'an" is a Southern/Black thing, lol.
I think Episode 1 next week. Machete Order (4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6) is a great way to tell the story.
Staring off into space, it is a good time to take a break to do a retrospective to learn the tale of how, Vader became Vader.
As he was making the Original Trilogy, George Lucas had the basic story for the Prequels in his head; he just didn’t have the technology to film them at the time.
This way also gives you a pretty big surprise near the end of 3 (you’ll find out in 6, but it’s not as big a surprise TD hat way).
3 is my personal favorite of the entire franchise, but I don’t think it’s the right way to end the SW experience. The additional context of watching Vader’s transformation also adds significant depth and nuance to the story of 6, which clearly intended to be the ending of the saga.
Either way though, you're going to enjoy the ride.
The Machete Order Sucks just Continue with Release Order
9:07 "Darth Vader killing an entire classroom"
💀
I was never a big fan of Star wars, but you gave me a new appreciation of it with the commentary. Seeing the dream bit on planet Yoda as a boss battle with dropped frames really amped up the tension.
Yes! The Star Wars reactions continue! 🥳
Loved the failed attempt at the Dagobah joke. Also had the over on sound effects noises 😂
I think the scars and damages on Lukes face in the beginning (after the Yeti attack) is real, I don't think it's make-up, I think he was in a car accident before filming started and that's why he looked that messed up
Correct. The wampa attack in the film was put in purely to explain the scars.
@@VegetaLF7 Wampa that was the name, I couldn't figure it out, I was like "yeti is fine" xD
@@VegetaLF7 George Lucas has denied that.
I really enjoyed this! With your non-stop humorous banter, I now have to subscribe to see and hear more!
It is a Star Wars tradition to begin every story with the Star Wars crawl screen..... it Lays the foundation to what you are about to witness.....
He did get stitches. Mark Hamill was in a bad car accident between shooting the two movies, which is why they wrote in the whole Wampa monster attack scene as the first thing in the movie, to explain the scarring on his face at the time. (Later the scars healed so it's hard to tell.)
8:20 - Work of a master DP - Suschitzky. His son also a DP and recently did a good show called 'Suspicion'.
FUN FACT - the original actor of Boba Fett (Jeremy Bulloch) is the Imperial Officer escorting Leia and Chewie as they encounter Luke after Han Solo is frozen.
the tank they put Luke in is called a Bacta Tank. its a regenerative liquid that puts your body's system into overdrive allowing you to heal much faster. Vader uses one and in the new tv series Kenobi, Obi Wan has to use one for quick healing too.
a bit of trivia for you about this movie: between "a new hope" and "Empire" Mark Hamil (Luke) got a new BMW sports car, right before filming for Empire started he wrecked it and had pretty bad facial injuries/scars, so they wrote that scene with the "yeti" into Empire to "explain" his facial scars
Well, you got one thing right: it was a BMW.
The accident, however, was much earlier, at the tail end of production of the first movie; and George Lucas has denied that the wampa encounter was written because of the accident.
The Han & Leigh Love Theme is one of my very favorite pieces of John Williams' work. So good.
Your commentary this movie was a little extra and I really enjoyed it and love it! Your puns were so dry and it's right up my alley! Had me dying. Thank you
14:05 "Is he a puppet, you think?"
Grown on you, he has...
The 4 legged walkers are called All Terrain Attack Transports (AT-AT's) the smaller two legged ones see in the background and in ROTJ are called All Terrain Scout Transports (AT-ST's) there is actually a fan on the west coast (I think CA) that actually built life size models of both. There are also several people that have built life size models of the different fighters as well both Rebel and Empire. Another pic I took was me guarding the model of a AT-ST at a star wars con as a TK (Stormtrooper)
Haven't clicked on a reaction video so fast in a long, long time!
To be fair to Angelina not recognizing Mark Hamil, a few months before filming he had a huge car accident and had to have full facial plastic surgery (so they added a scene of Luke getting attacked which gives the excuse for his facial scars)
“🤟Welcome back🤟”
Love your take on this. I do love this movie….. just fun
23:30 The line in the script was "I love you too." But Harrison Ford ad-libbed "I know" on the day, thinking that it was the worst thing for a woman who's just said "I love you" to hear back.
2:31 well he was in a vehicle accident just before filming this movie and had to have facial reconstructive surgery which is why he looks different in Empire onwards and probably why it was harder to recognise him
Darth Vader: thats the base, they are there
Angelina: like how do you know?
Everyone: THE FORCE FFS THE FORCE
I LOVE THE STAR WARS REACTIONS!
R2 and the Emperor are the only ones to go not lose to Yoda in a duel. "R2, let him have it."
4:00 lmao when you realized what was happening between Han and Leia IT'S TOO GOOD
14:00 Now you have to react to Seagulls Stop It Now by Bad Lip Reading. It’s a hilarious parody of Yoda’s scenes in this movie.
19:45 Something tells me you’d like Grand Admiral Thrawn. He definitely has a much different approach as an Imperial leader. So you should probably check out the Star Wars books.
24:20 The pronunciation of Han and Leia’s names changes randomly. I wouldn’t worry about it too much lol.
Luke ended up with his facial injuries in the beginning of the movie, because actor Mark Hamill had suffered real life injuries in a car accident. So they used that scene to explain why Luke had a slightly different look to him from the first movie.
I love star wars episode five the empire strikes back it is my favourite star wars movie I own it on dvd
I know I'm a little late to this video but your looks in this video are phenomenal honestly. Good job on just everything lol
7:43 the reason the wampa scene was added was because mark Hamill the actor who plays Luke had got in a car accident that's why his scars look real. cause they are real
