Don't be one of those hipsters who thinks that everything this government does is bad just because its by Vucic or someone from SNS. Listen, I don't like Vucic and his parasite party but there are some things I think he should get credit for. For example, our macroeconomic outlook is much much better and surely going in the right direction, every economic statistic is showing that and frankly if it ends up to be true that our GDP will have a 4.5% growth in 2018 that would be amazing. All this talk over the media is unsubstantiated. I simply can't see the problem in Serbian media, I think it's functioning just fine. Our foreign policy is also not that bad, actually far better than anything from the last 30 years or so. Infrastructure is developing at a decent rate and it seems that it is getting faster and faster though not by much. Of course there are bad things: school system is a catastrophe, shady business in the public parasite companies like, state of the parliament, high taxes and more. HOWEVER, I think that this government is doing a far better job than the previous DS led government, and since they are the main opposition aside from the crazies I think we have least bad government out of our not very broad options.
@Bobby Collins Precisely what you said - most of my country is still trapped in the sentiment of 90's and all the way back in Tito era. Most of people are poor, trying too keep their jobs even if payed unacceptably low by any standard. This government threatened a lot of workers that if they don't vote for the dominant party (SNS) they would loose their jobs. Media can't report on it because the same people are holding power in biggest news networks. We are currently in a dictatorship with a few ways to send the message out. And even if someone points out that, he or she is considered a traitor or a fool.

That's just his interviewing style, you can look up other interviews he has done. Frankly, as somebody coming from Serbia, she deserves everything she got here, and more (in terms of a tough interview). In Serbia, she and President Vučić, who holds the real power despite occupying a constitutionally much weaker position (something like Putin-Medvedev dynamic), almost always get softball questions from state-controlled or state-influenced media with no follow-ups and zero fact-checking. They actively boycott professional and critical media and all the facts Sebastian read about the state of media freedoms are true. This is why most people from Serbia who are watching this are actually glad, because they almost never have a chance to see a tough interview with any public official at home.

Just arrived in Serbia after spending almost a year in Croatia. I cannot imagine Serbia being that much worse than Croatia. As someone who has gone trhough the process of gaining residence permit in Croatia and trying to do all things dealing with this in the right way, I can honestly say that Croatia should not be a member of the European Union. They try to get the most money out of you as possible too without the rules being clear. Don't believe me, try moving there and see for yourself. From what I know and what people told me in Croatia, corruption is rampant, youth unemployment is high which is why so many are leaving. Plus, it's just another small country that wants all the benefits that the rest of Europeans pay for, but don't want any responsibility. No need to look further than how they have treated refugees. So, if Serbia is not that much worse than Croatia and Croatia was allowed in than so should Serbia. I would say neither country is ready though. It is very important to remind Tim that its highly hypocritical to do this on a German TV, him who belongs to the nation who committed numerous attrocities around this World, in the name of the Crown, including the most brutal one during the 2nd Anglo Boer War. As a part of the strategy in this war British government and its expeditionary troops organised first ever concentration camps. In those camps they exterminated 26000 elderly, woman and children where 8000 of the victims were children under the age of 14. Tim if you really want to describe genocide, that is the genocide. No one was ever prosecuted for those attrocities nor British goverment ever appoligiesed for the genocide commited in their nsme. If it weren't for the Serb sacrifices in WWI, half of Europe would probably still be under Austro-Hungarian brutal occupation, or some variation thereof.
Ok, if you didn't figure out by now let me tell; Serbia doesn't want to become part of EU for many reasons. First one is because of Russia. Second because of Kosovo, etc. Serbia (government) is still living in the past and never left it, sadly people are paying for it...
Of course I can. Every country that was in the war has them and thats a fact many cant handle. Atrocities were commited on all sides, and yes there are people that have done these crimes that havent been convicted for them. The only thing I can't seem to understand is how much she is destroying for the serbian people by denying that it was a genocide in Srebrenica even though they have been arrested for these war crimes and ICTY has ruled out that it was a genocide.
Well, the mere fact that somebody is arrested does not necessarily prove there was a genocide because - I guess - official information on number of victims largely differs from one to other side. So, recalling Serbian official sources of information, I suppose she just infers the conclusion that, even though there were crimes, it was not a genocide (based on definition of what genocide is and number of killed people).
I almost agree with you. But, as a logician, I would consider two separated questions: was there really a genocide (maybe real number of victims is not enough to call it genocide, despite adopted "facts" because nowadays it is easy to fabricate facts), and 2. is it good for Serbia to recognize a genocide - whatever the facts are - for prosperity and better future. You are right she is shame for Serbia, but only if she lies. But does she lie - who knows? I did not take part in the war, so I don't know. If I am to believe to Serbian TV and newspapers, there was no genocide. Of course, every side try to diminish its own responsibility, so again I don't know. But if she makes efforts to join Serbia to EU, then why wouldn't she recognize a genocide if not because there was not a genocide according to information Serbian state has?
yeah I see your point but the atrocities were commited by the yugoslav army which was commanded by Mladic and he wanted a greater Serbia therefore he commited these awful crimes in the name of the serbian people even though they didnt know about this or were against it. That leaves a dilemma and a problem with which the serbian people stand accused for even though a big part of the population was not involved in the war. I think she doesnt recognize the genocide beacuse that would be seen as a huge betrayal against the serbian people and it can cost her big time in politics. Also she is well aware that Serbia has a long way to go if they want to reach the EU. I dont think we will come to an conclusion but I really got your point :)

Firstly in one Century alone Serbs were subjected to genocide twice, loosing over two million of its population, while previously over four centuries being prosecuted, converted or displaced, I'll treated just because they were Christians by the Ottoman muslims. I am Italian with a degree in journalism from UAL and i work as a freelance journalist here in London. I find this interview appalling. The way he was speaking to a prime minister is very unprofessional. He didn't let her speak. DW News, where's the professionalism?
She is a liar 🤥 and keeps lying on every issue. That’s what Serbia is where it is because of people in politics like her.
@@blackcat.19 that doesn't justify the attitude of the 'journalist'
hahaha quality of life for citizens in serbia 😂
Can`t listen the reporter. So arrogant and out of the line.
Former Yougoslavia used to be a green country but only a few knew it.
I just hope that we will have some like this journalist one day. Here, in Serbia, journalists are no longer asking inconvenient questions.
Ako ti treba OVAKAV novinar, vodi ga kući. Što ne pita svoje Engleze za EU?
Pretty sure she broke some world record in saying word FIRSTLY...
What an unprofessional reporter
11:47 Sadly, but that is true.
Then there's only the president to blame because most televisions are his puppets :)
Lie lie lie!!!!
She is fuming from her ears!
Not used to a reporter putting her in her spot!!!!
Danke für den Interview Deutsche Welle. Die Fragen waren perfekt.
Viele Liebe Grüße
Every time I hear Serbia, I remember their WW1 casualties and it just makes me depressed.
WW2 as well

You clearly don't know basic history.
What triggered the WWI was the assassination of the Duke Franz Ferdinad by Serb revolutionary Gavrilo Princip in 1914, not by Serbian generals and/or government officials.
If it weren't for the Serb sacrifices in WWI, half of Europe would probably still be under Austro-Hungarian brutal occupation, or some variation thereof.
after 13 minutes had to stop watching...this arrogant guy is terrible
we are really feel sorry for you. Have you got your portion of sandwich from progressive Party?
Let's admit one thing. English and Germans have always had disdain and hatred towards slavs.
Excellent interview, she definitely went out of her comfort zone, I enjoyed it, ty
Majko mila obruka nas sve na sve strane...
Is't the interview of PM of Serbia or the opportunity for the journalist to express his opinion?
Kosovo is Serbia. I hope this lady knows since EU does not
I’m not for Vucic but this journalist just made me go from pro European to pro Russian.
Serbia DOES NOT want to join EU, EU and USA installed puppet government who wants to push us into EU against our will.
Omg she was litearlly trapping herself by her own words she is like "yes but no i said that but differently but yes but no"
No she wasn’t. She was very clear and eloquent in this interview. Perhaps you could learn some proper English from her😂
She has an unpleasant and harsh tone of voice, and the interviewer is trying to provoke and generate angry responses. Annoying interview.
Ok, if you didn't figure out by now let me tell; Serbia doesn't want to become part of EU for many reasons. First one is because of Russia. Second because of Kosovo, etc. Serbia (government) is still living in the past and never left it, sadly people are paying for it...
Muriz Hodzic and we will never forget crime nato done to us...
life in Serbia is great dont worry :)
I feel bad for anyone who gets interviewed by this guy!
Whose here from the 'Ana Burn-a-bitch' story? 😂😂
I dont know why but I liked her english:)
I wish you lived in Serbia with Serbian salary and this sir lady as a prime minister
I don’t agree with her in many things she said but she seems a very strong woman indeed. 🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱
He Nailed her she is a disaster
Such a liar she can’t answer one straight question
When he said he last name I died 🤣
if you cant recognize serbian war crimes, you cant be in a climate of trust and working forward for the EU.
Can you recognize any crimes except Serbian crimes?
She sees criticism every single day in the media??? Liar liar liar
She is trying to behave and look like a man for some reason. A man who's angry and ready to fight.
You are sexist and have bad opinion. If you hide your ugly comment to yourself, we'll be so glad as human
@@mhmtcnk :D but it's true!! :D
Typical ignorant arrogance of colonial attitudes.. Let alone rudeness of Tim's trying too hard to be a tough interviewer.. PM Brnabić did put him in his place in a humble way
No respect for genocide deniers. You have never seen this show if you feel offended by Tim Sebastian. To be part of the EU you have to admit there was a genocide, she does not. And clearly, there is lots of areas in which Serbia is falling very short of earning its place in the EU.
@@momoney4089 your trowing genocides around and calling people deniers is as effective, for long term reconciliation between Bosniaks and Serbs, as calling anyone an antisemite who criticizes Natanahu government .. its a non starter. Read the definition of it, and then check the highly politicized verdict, and the read the definition again, and see for your self..
@@sasha6594 coming from someone that started their rant talking about colonial attitudes? A good journalist is not a colonialist. All reporters should be like Tim Sebastian. He doesn't just go after small country leaders but of his own. Again, if you watched this show you would see. You're just a nationalist seeking any platform to talk about how much of a victim you are and the us vs. them mentality. Get out of your small mindedness. And you know what is best for reconciliation than empty words and phrases, actions. Germany for example has not only accepted and apologized for their atrocities, they have invested a lot in the European project and made their land for the most part a land of opportunity and welcoming for people. From this interview, seems like not even justice has been done.
@@momoney4089 i know his work for years and still believe that his attitude in this interview is filled with ignorance, his arrogance is common of colonial ones. Look little bit outside your little shell and you might see better.. Serbia, as PM said, has accepted responsibility for what has happened in the exYu wars. Has Bosnian side done the same? Has Serbian victims have been acknowledged and given proper respect? Get serious! One-sidenes will keep you in blind victim-hood and will not get you move and challenge the narratives that you call nationalistic, but problem is that you are so blinded by them that you don't see them in your self.. either we speak of universal values, or i don't have time for nationalistic, neoconservative, oversimplified bots hiding behind silly names .. no money no bots
@@sasha6594 I'm not Balkan dummy. I have no skin in this game. Yall's fighting is dumb. Hypocritical of you as a Serbian where the communist center of power was held in Yugoslavia wants to talk about colonialist arrogance. I don't want genocide deniers in the European Union ( will it make you feel better if I include Bosnians, Macedonians, et al. in the mix?). Does that make your little ego feel better? If you want to join the European Union, you need to buy into the ideas and values of the EU and one of them is free press. Tim Sebastian gets to carry out whatever questions he wants. You just want questions that paint your country in a good light. Your a truth denier. Stick to coming up with catchy slogans dummy
This is the most confrontational reporter I have ever seen, every person he interviews! The comments apparently appreciate him because this woman is corrupt yet I detest the conflict. Please point out the politicians problems but drop the accusatory tone. You could even use the same very strong words, just make it more of a discussion than a fight. Again, this is painful, every one of your interviews make me cringe.
To you Serbians who want to join EU, from the strength of your patriotism, your intelligence, and humanity, I believe you will one day achieve peace, freedom and prosperity, and an end to corruption in EU.
