    I love the idea of including the pleasing colors and textures of different natural fibers, such as scraps of wools, angoras, silks and so on! I think including some of the crazy quilting techniques would be pleasing and interesting, as well, such as using scraps of contrasting and complimentary fabrics and interesting embellishments!
    I love this fidget blanket idea, can't wait to try making some!

Sad to think of someone who has worked hard all their life, a person who is kind and giving would have to go through their last years this way. I'm so excited! There's a small little shop near me that accepts donations of all sorts of used artistic items. Crayons, fabrics, yarn, wood, all of those tiny little things that end up in a junk drawer somewhere. They have so many things waiting to be repurposed. They sell these things for basically whatever you can afford to pay! It's an awesome store. I wish there were more like this to keep things out of the landfill, but that's a whole different conversation. Anyway, I just left from there after finding so many little things to use for a fidget quilt. I can't wait to put one together. Thanks so much Jean!!!

    I have been making fidget quilts that are donated to a seniors complex for a few years now. A few things I learned: These need to be washable. Make sure you use items that will survive the washer and dryer. Sew buttons with doubled strong thread multiple times. I also apply fray check to the threads. Some buttons or beads look like candy! As Jean mentioned, make sure everything is well stitched. I found hair elastic did not survive the laundry and switched to the elastic used in making PUL diapers. I use a lot of different tactile fabrics interspersed with squares with zippers, buttons , pockets and some plain. These can also be used as interactive "I Spy" quilts, ie. Where is the dog, where is the zipper, what is this called? Thanks for the tutorial, Jean. It is important to help our seniors with dementia. It is a terrible disease.

    THIS is genius!!!!! I have so many small little "things" that I just don't know what to do with. And plenty of fat quarters to use. Question...how would we attach a zipper or that chain for instance, since you can't stitch through a chain? Thank you so much Jean! Not only will this help someone else, but this will also help me! It's a win/win! You definitely have me a good laugh with the whole clump stuck to the back. I'm such a perfectionist, so it's great to see how that could easily be fixed!! You're a gem ❤️

    • @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory
      @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory  2 роки тому +1

      THanks Amy:) As far as the chain goes, I would thread a ribbon thru one of the end links and then secure the ribbon onto the quilt (on both ends of the chain) It could hang loose, or curled, whatever way you would like. But as always, SECURE SECURE!!! The zippers are just sewn on, down one side and up the other! As far as my boo boo...like I said, just cover it up and call it a day!! LOL! Perfection is overrated:) LOL! Thanks again for watching;)

I'm not sure which foot to sew with or if the weight of threat makes a difference. I started making one a year ago but stopped because I was afraid that I wasn't attaching things properly and others I didn't know how to attach them. @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks Tracy! The belt buckle that I have is not leather but a light weight pleather fabric so I just carefully used a larger needle and poly thread. For real leather, there IS a 'leather needle' you can get. As far as MY little buckle, I had no problem sewing it on. If something has a loop or hole, you can thread a sturdy ribbon through it and attach the ribbon. Like I said, I have certain trims that I would use a heavy fabric/glue to hold them in place.

    My 84 yr old mother has Alzheimer's and is bed bound. I am currently on day eight of a particularly nasty UTI. To say she is fidgety is putting mildly. She hasn't slept in eight days, nor stopped talking. Her hands have not stopped touching, pulling, tugging, rolling anything she can get her hands on. She is so anxious and confused. It is really sad. I am so exhausted because when she doesn't sleep I don't sleep. (She wants to climb out of her bed.) I am sure some of your subscribers can relate.
    This is what she needs right now. Exactly this. I am too tired right now to create one. But if you have a family member with Alzheimer's or Dementia this would be a godsend gift to them. Speaking from someone who can see a need.
