I think a harness would be quite difficult because at some point you would always stand on one ship, while being attached to the other. Which seems to me like a pretty dangerous thing to have happen.

The normal practice is this: -when the pilot boat approaches the ship,the ship should give a good lee for the boat,didn’t happen! -pilot ladder arrangement is totally wrong! -Any pilot’s belongings should lowered to the boat,not to be carried by the pilot. -a crew member of the boat should be assisting the pilot disembarking by the landing site and a lifebuoy ready. -I couldn’t see if the ship’s engine was stopped during the disembarking procedure or not but it’s doubtful Quite few more points to mention but very late at for me Retired port operator and IMO CERTIFIED instructor pilot of VLCC,ULCC ships for 35+ years.

Saw a lot of this in the Navy… cool But the most unusual thing about Pilots was a friend of Mine’s daughter became a full Fledged Pilot in Charleston relight after college graduation…. That is still a wow to me!

Never walk down the inside. Once alongside the Cutter should have given a little more revs on the outboard engine, thereby locking himself tightly onto the larger vessel.
Was a master helmsman on a Navy oiler. If the ship has a Stern swell, the ship was unbelievably hard to stay on course! San Francisco and Columbia River. 😲😲😲
