A domestic violence suspect led authorities on a wild and dangerous chase with a hostage passenger for three hours across Los Angeles and Orange counties Wednesday.
It finally ended when the suspect pulled into the parking lot of a 99 Cent Store in Rowland Heights and ran on foot inside the store.
Customers were seen fleeing from the building as officers followed with weapons drawn. They took him into custody within minutes inside the business.
"In today's era of active shooters, police just pursue these things," said David Moeller of the California Highway Patrol. "You can't let people get into innocent people."
The suspect was spotted hitting his female passenger while fleeing from law enforcement in several cities such as South Gate, Huntington Park, Lynwood, South Los Angeles, Buena Park and Anaheim.

It is starting to piss me off that one of the announcers keeps saying that the girl in the passenger seat is nonchalant. She will never be the same. that girl is f[n so scared. can you imagine how scared? He is probably just telling her now, its going to be okay dear. Dude, shame on you. She is scared, no doubt.
West Coast cops need to take notes from East Coast cops. A 3hour pursuit would never happen.

If that girls knees are on the dashboard and the airbags go off she wont have much to worry about.
So this was 5 yrs ago. For people unsure. Also, back then looking for updates, according to social media pages, the girl had borrowed the car from a friend. He took off with the keys to take the car and she tried to get them back. They had an altercation during this while trying to get the keys. Supposedly hopping in the passenger seat trying to stop him from taking the car she was responsible for. There were rumors she was pregnant, which were never confirmed. And also rumors that she rode in cars with her legs up frequently to be comfortable. Both I was never able to confirm came from legit "friends", or people that were acquaintances wanting 5 min of fame.
He is obviously a POS, and she's not 100% innocent in the company of felons she kept. Hopefully now in 2024 she's making better choices. His name is Alexis Leondardo Avinai. (And no, I'm not saying she deserved to be in this situation)

It was a 3 hour chase because LAPD ALLOWED A 3 HOUR CHASE endangering innocent citizens for almost 3 hours. You people really need pursuit lessons from the Arkansas State Police.
Not even LAPD, at the beginning of the video it says South Gate, which is South Gate PD jurisdiction, a total separate city from LA.
Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, they don't mess around.

I am blown away at the lack of empathy for the woman, unresponsive as a hostage. You ALL ASSUME THE WOMAN IS A DRUG ADDICT! You don't call an ambulance when you see she is being assaulted in the car! Shame on this coverage. Watch your judgemental unhelpful mouths, big men!!!

It's still pretty new. Oakland now has a couple I believe. About 30 states have a few of them. Being a less than 10 yr old invention, may take time and cost. Not everything has to be political.

Agreed, even if they dont want to pit as a policy, they can use The Grappler like they have here in AZ that shoots a web out at the back tires and stops the chase safely. To just play Key Stone cops and follow criminals around for hours seems more dangerous than stopping it asap.

There are chases that have gone on for as many as 6 hrs including the standoff. A couple were longer.
LA police are good at following suspects until they decide to stop, except for when they choose to let them go.

I am not a big fan of the LAPD there is room for criticism for sure , however they are navigating a lot of traffic and a PIT is rarely done in traffic by LAPD. This isn’t Arkansas, which the total state population is less than the population of Los Angeles. You can’t compare apples and oranges. That comparison always makes me smh.
In this case they have a potential victim of domestic assault in the car with the suspect. They wouldn’t want to hurt the passenger / victim. Domestic situations are some of the most dangerous calls that officers handle.
