For some reason I remember Digimon Rumble Arena very fondly. I was also obsessed with Final Fantasy 7 for a while. But Metal Gear takes the top spot for me for sure.
Delta Force: Urban Warfare from Novalogic is a graphic masterpiece too. It's a FPS from 2002, so not many people knew about it. I've discovered it like 2-3 years ago when I was searching for some unknown FPS titles. I was shocked how it went under my radar... Well, you can always put it in the next part. Cheers!
Funny fact: back in the day, reviewers lambasted the games controls as being unwieldy and awkward... same said controls are now the default standard for console FPS games. PS1 Dead or Alive was also very different from the arcade original (which was ported to the Sega Saturn). This "new" PS1 version was released in the arcades as DoA+
@@knightsabre2k Yeah Alien Resurrection was the first ps1 game that fully utilized the dualshock control system and the reviewers bashed it for it. It is one of the biggest irony in gaming ever and just another reason why you should never take reviewers 100% seriusly, as a lot of times they just dont understand how to properly review em, especially now more than ever they are so biased.
@@Bird-Birdy-Love hindsight is 20/20. Reviewers can only look at games with contemporary views at the time. It’s fascinating reading old video game magazines and seeing what they think of games when they were new. Most classics were still loved but I was reading one the other day where ninja gaiden was given 40-something % score with them citing frustrating gameplay & restrictive controls as faults. Things that are considered the games strengths now.
I had no idea there was a Macross game on the PS1...looks awesome! Also never knew about the Fist of the North Star game on PS1. Another excellent episode man!
Alien Ressurection was a Christmas present from the uninformed parents for me. A pleasing surprise, the graphics were awesome and well thought out for my aging PSX. Not a bad game overall and an enjoyable playthrough many times for a good year or so. I hope the designers and programmers got a bonus for this game. Alas I have just looked at the reception for Alien Resurrection... overly critical of the graphics???? And the control scheme was brilliant considering it was one of the first to bring in dual analog controls and it worked well for me, didnt have an issue. This game was ahead of it's time it seems. Poor Argonaut Games. Did they not pay the review sites for marketing?
Dead or Alive has always been a graphically impressive series. DOA is known to push technological limits on the systems it's on. The character and environment graphics are beautiful, and the character movement animations are fluid and realistic looking. DOA3 in particular held the title for being the most technologically advanced fighting game ever made, same for DOA4.
This was a really interesting video, I had no idea PS1 could do 60fps and I'm of that era. I might be a bit biased but I really think Crash and Spyro hold up in terms of graphics.
25fps or 50fps is what we got in certain parts of the world, as in PAL regions. Biggest example of this I experienced was how much faster Tekken 3 played in the arcade compared to PS1. It was just a framerate thing.
Thank you for mentioning saga frontier 2. Game is heavily slept on and deserve more attention as out of all the saga games this one is the most beginner friendly
Fun fact! Alien Resurrection was the first FPS game to use dual analog sticks on a console. The setup was disliked by some reviewers. Yet it became the standard control layout for FPS on consoles that is still been used to this day.
Yeah, I've read those reviews complaining about the control. I didn't but the Game at release because of that. But after switching to wasd/mouse for quake 2 on pc, I went back and tried it and I couldn't believe we EVER did controls for shooters any other way :)
Another great list TVGS! The PS1 is my all-time favorite console still for some reason. I can't remember if you've already covered it in a previous video, but Porsche Challenge was always one of the best looking titles, in my opinion. Just to throw in my own honorary mention. Thanks for the great content.
Syphon filter 3: non lethal weapon lime the teaser 😂😂 I use to hold the botton till they all burned 😂 looked lethal to me 🤭 Thanks for the vid brings back good memories 😊
Shame Alien Resurrection on PS1 costs a fortune now cos people discovered it can be used to play copied discs. In 2024. Like that in any way matters these days lol.
I got it a couple of years ago for only 10 euros, the price has gone down since tough. The Pal vers costs an average 30 to 50euros. the NTSC ver spiked to over 300 dollars but now it is more like 80 dollars. which is far cheaper but i guess still somewhat expensive :(
The Tobal games I have been interested in, especially with Toriyama's passing. Spyro 3 is one of my faves! I loved the extra playable characters, especially Agent 9, and it was the first one in the trilogy I beat, though my friends and I played it together. Dead or Alive is a franchise I follow here and there, and this PS1 version looks amazing! Crash Bandicoot Warped is my favorite of the three, mainly because it's the one I played the most.
As for today, Dead or Alive is the best entertainment for gentlemen the world has to offer lol. This game is one of the many proofs that simple crazy ideas can save companies and change the world.
I dont remember if it was or not mentioned in previous videos but. I am shocked Valkyrie Profile was not mentioned in this list! awesome video tho. Playstation 1 is seriously up there with the SNES/Genesis for me!
One of the things these games over all you listed have in common is there more cartoonish style. That type of style of visual representation ages a lot better than most other types. Especially photo realism which degrades rapidly over time. I still need to finish Alien Resurrection, i have been trying for over 25 years now. Something always comes up that prevents me. However mark my words i will finish it.
Of all the square soft rpgs and outside of that studio, Xenogears got the best story I have ever played! The intro animated movie alone got me curious and hooked! Wanting to know the answers and learn more about the massive lore. Sadly, annoying encounter rates and design of the dungeons pissed me off. But the ending was really well worth it!
Alien Resurrection was supposed to coincidence with the film in 1997 but it had a troubled development. It was originally a 3rd person shooter. Dead or Alive on the Saturn is closer to its Arcade, Model 2 original, than the PS1 version. The PS1 version is more of a remix although still technically impressive.
Sadly no it doesn't, the game was never sold outside Japan. I was one of the lucky few outside Japan who got to play it, I still have the CD.. 😊 The soundtrack are so good and gameplay was way ahead of its time too. Never found any game like it ever since.
