P2503 Charging System Voltage Low | Mazda 6 | Autel MP408 Scope

Diagnose a failed alternator on a 2005 Mazda 6s with the 3.0l Duratec (AJ). PCM is throwing DTC P2503. I use my Autel MP408 Scope to take a look at the control and monitor circuits to determine if the alternator is bad.

autozone would test your alternator free,, They bench test it in the back.. I would also recommend getting a new one from AutoZone Even if it goes bad in a 7 years you get a lifetime warranty on the alternator... My car has the same exact alternator I believe it's a 2012 Mazda six looks the same by your thumbnail.. My alternator has two wires going to the control section of the alternator ..I've already taken mine out and had it checked they said the alternator is fine.. I'm trying to figure out why I'm never getting more than a certain voltage I'm not getting any idiot light codes or anything ...it's just out of curiosity.. The car never goes below 13 V but I've never seen the car go higher than 13.7 V. In the summer right now it never goes higher than 13.4 V I only get that 13.4 V if I let it sit a long time.. As for the battery I'm not having any starting problems or anything like that car starts up no problem but I'm sure the charge is not full..

So this alternator was a new alternator I put in as preventative maintenance (200k on original) and to get this out is....not fun. You have to take the right front suspension out of the car to get to it so I really wanted to prove the unit was bad before I took it apart again. Additionally, this alternator is computer controlled by the PCM/ECM. The regulator, or part of it, is in the PCM/ECM. The part store didn't have correct tools to verify it. It really needed to be verified in the car.

Lotta work went into this car. Need to do the exhaust in the spring. I just happened to have the Ford mats and no where else to stick them lol
