My buddy and I were fishing big water for Lake Trout and he always said if he got a 30# it was going on his wall. I landed a 31 pounder for him and said, "There you go Paul, there's your wall hanger". He looks at me as he's releasing it and say's, "Nope. I want a 40". RIP Paul. 2 years ago I got a 47 pound fathead catfish. Every one said why not lie and call it a 50.. I said nope ill get my 50 last year got a 55 pounder.. all off the bank.

Also, Ultralight has become my favorite way to fish in recent years. I have landed a couple dozen Blue/Channel Catfish on it. With 4lb test line no less.

the best thing is there is room to go bigger !!! One day I want to see you land an over 100 lb. Kitty , a 150 lb. Gator Gar and a 400 lb. Sturgeon !!! My largest fresh water catch is a 43 .6 lb. Striper out of the Etowah River between Cartersville , Ga. and Rome , Ga while fishing for Kitties and chicken livers for bait .I never expected that !! I have also caught a 5 ft 9 in. Alligator in the St. Johns River using live bream and heavy Kitty equipment ! It was around 2 am in the morning while we were vacationing on a houseboat for a week . Everyone but me had gone to bed , so I ended up hog tying it for proof . Without it , no one would have believed me !! I'll be watching when your next P.B. is caught !!

Great catch!!! I used to jug fish my local lakes. Biggest I've ever caught was a 60 lb flathead. Used just a canoe and a paddle to chase down an angry monster attached to a jug. Jug fishing and limb lines seem to be the best method I know to catch big fish. Never got a monster using a rod and reel... Gratz man!!!

Those were 2 massive Blue Cats caught on the 'ol Ugly Stick/ Abu Garcia combo. You should have kept one, filleted it up for a BBQ with friends. Little salt, pepper, paprika, deep fry, and some lemon squeeze. My barber was showing me monster Northern Pike him and his buddy were catching a couple springs ago. Can't reveal the location, but it is remote and the fish were over 50 inches.

I rarely comment on UA-cam videos, but I have to make an exception with yours. First off, the videography that you have in this is simply spectacular! The video is so clean and sharp. Secondly, the energy you bring to the camera is awesome. I love seeing the joy of another human doing something so simple like fishing. I fish every summer now since my father passed away and I still get the same amount of excitement, from a .5 pound small mouth to a 3 pound large. Thirdly, congrats on the monster Blue, those are a super fun fight I bet, I have caught a few channel cats that are about 8 to 10 pounders that are just simply fun to try and bring in. Lastly, keep up the great work and I can safely say you earned a new sub.

There's nothing better than when a fisherman is truly excited about his catch. As many videos and fishing trips that you've been on it's hard to believe you haven't caught one of these before. I'm so happy for you. I love your videos because it's really an adventure that you give us. Your PB goes up by 16 lbs and again by 13 lbs more in the same trip. Congrats!
Wow Nick I have no words to describe my elation at seeing you catch that 40 lb blue cat... Then you absolutely just shattered my brain cells with that 52 pounder... Might want to think about putting some 65 lb braid on that bad boy along with a 60 lb fluoro leader, cuz I really don't want to see you missing any more of those, if they get tangled up on them big old rocks down there again. Give yourself a big old pat on the back cuz you know we're sending it... Great great great job, you definitely put in the time, and you deserve it more than anyone I've ever seen!!!😎
Isn't it awesome to break a personal record? And you broke your personal best record fish TWICE in the space of a few hours or less! Well done, Sir, I salute you! My personal best was a massive Northern Pike he weighed over 30 lbs, according to my el-cheapo fish scale, and I had a very good quality Tape measure and in my jurisdiction the fish are measured according to the snout to the tip of the furthest protruding tail fin. He was just under 4 feet long. 47 7/8 inches long precisely he was so strong he towed our boat around for 20 minutes before I could land him! He provided me with 20 pounds of Fillets! He was a MONSTER. But not the biggest fish ever caught in my region. But I am proud to be able to say how big she was because I wanted to make sure I had the data on it. A giant Female Northern Pike, But certainly not the 52 lbs. of that huge Blue Catfish! Well done! I think the bait is best frozen before use, because the freezing disrupts the cellular structure of the flesh and cause it to emit far more scent into the water, and those Catfish came running to THAT dinner bell. Also partially decayed bait is also effective for Catfish because they are bottom feeder they will eat anything and the more it smells the sooner they come because there is always another fish who will take it if they don't. But who wants to work with smell decaying fish meat? Yuckers!!! SO Frozen will work nicely. At least that is my theory, and it seems to be correct, of course even the best fishermen will get skunked from time to time, but as a general rule when the bait has been frozen it seems there is a much higher success rate when going after bottom feeders or Slew-sharks like Pike, oh, and also ling Cod or bowfin, and now also Snake heads too. Fish that don't mind eating gross things.
