A Sarmiento brace is used to stabilize a fracture in your upper arm while leaving your elbow free, allowing motion in your forearm and hand. Promoting the recovery of long-bone humerus fractures, the clamshell Sarmiento brace compresses your surrounding muscles and soft tissues. Its cylinder-shape provides a stabilizing force equal in all directions (circumferential compression), which limits motion at the fracture site so it can heal correctly.

I had this put on by an orthotic in 2001. The doctor sent me to him for a broken humerus. They should also put a pressure sock under. My bone healed nicely.
How long did it take to heal
@@sailormoon9480 It was a mean break..Three pieces. But it healed well in less than 3 months.I believe by month 1 it was pretty well set and the next month the brace came off. I started phys therapy on month 3 which was brutal but excellent. I couldn't bend the arm past 90 degrees for a while. The arm is much stronger than it was. I did a lot of salt baths while it was healing which they said it helps speed up bine creation.
@@thedelacruz i broke mine last week just a displaced fracture mid humerus i can't move my hand or arm. How long do you think it will take me im in a arm brace no surgery

if the doc set it right and you keep it in the brace about a month maybe 2. Doctor should know by how the bone is growing. mine were 2 severely displaced. that's why the pressure sock is handy. I felt the pieces snap in place immediately. You'll be ok. Bones heal quick. Take tons of calcium, spend time at the beach if possible or just Epson salt baths and do not take any more opiates after the Rx is finish. just take heavy Motrin.

Last saturday I had broken my arm and yesterday I got Sarmiento Brace. I didnt like it unfortunately. It hurts me when I'm trying to do something. I cant even take a rest perfectly. Its pressing to my clavicula. And I paid 6000 Turkish Lira (300 Dollar) for this...
I have a similar one. I don't go all the way up to shoulder. I had swelling though and I was using a tubular bandage. I can't bend my arm enough to use that sling, but my brace is not flat at the bottom
Is swollen forearm normal when you have this cast on ? Cos I had it put on a few days ago and my forearm is swollen now
@@charlieliang1839 I can't remember if mine was swollen. I did end up having physical therapy. My shoulder and upper arm were super stiff by the time that thing came off. I did have other swelling I had to ice for a while
My daughter has a broken arm and she has the same thing but she is recovering

Fyi you don't get to wear it just for a broken humerus you get to wear it for a fracture
Broken humerus = fracture humerus
Fracture humerus = broken humerus
How does a brace like this compare to a sling with a swathe for stabilizing the arm?

I'm on my 5th week of recovery with my sarmiento brace with a non surgical fracture. But my forearm and hand still very swollen only comes down when its elevated and that is just a little bit. My concern is the swelling forarm and hand is this part of the healing process please respond thank you.
Will it hurt to get it wet I can't remove mine no one to help

This thing is so uncomfortable and it takes two people beside yourself to get it on. Horrible and the guy putting it doesn't have a freaking break........I hate you this.....

This brace itches so bad!!!! Wtf kind of chemicals in it and very uncomfortable sleeping it feel like a football player
Hi there! If you are feeling discomfort in our sarmiento brace, I would highly recommend using the stockinette under sleeve that comes with the brace!
Is it advisable to change the stockinette for cleaning?
