Should have sent some to me, would have helped in my home network 😅

Cisco refused to take our 500+ network switches back unless they were individually boxed.
I dont call this reasonable. The cost for us to do that wouldnt just be on the packaging. The time and effort that would take is impracticable for large organisations

So data breach prevention from this 60B$+ company is worth more than the environment where we all live in?
Clearly there is someone somewhere that either doesn't understand how networking works, or doesn't not have in place the people, knowledge, processes, software and hardware to replace old equipment with new ones.
The guy that made the video is clearly signaling the rest of us between the lines here as he is also flabbergasted by all this, but he got well paid and is doing his job. But he is asking a good rhetorical question about "is this really the way to go" in 2024, or is this hiding something else (like those switches already being compromised??)...

so what you you suggest? We are talking about end of life equipment that the customer would usually throw into landfill. When Cisco refreshes old hardware for customers they take back the old hardware. Cisco remanufactures (first choice) and reuses the old material or they recycle (shredding, smelting etc.) with the recycled goods being used to make new prodcuts to lessen the impact on virigin raw material.. What should they be doing?

@@richardscott7462 The samething we do with equipment that cost 1000$ or less: recycle it adequately.
