- Turns out steel doesn't work on vampires.
For this video we made a punch with a wrapped handle. If you'd like to see a 100% hand held punch check out my video on making a center punch and round punch ( • Blacksmithing 2.2 - Ma... )

Forge On. Keep forge lit. Keep making. God Bless.
Thanks!
@@WatersIronworks you’re welcome
Very cool, I should probably do a couple of punches with handles to spare myself the heat coming off of larger pieces, thanks for sharing!
They can get pretty uncomfortable if you are working with bigger pieces. One of the few times I'll wear gloves.
..Extremely interesting Phillip. i haven't seen anyone hit that 1/4" mark yet so don't feel bad
:) Thanks.
Yah without doing a few test pieces it's hard to make sure you get the final end size right while also getting a good overall taper. If you get the taper right though it's easy enough to cut back to the final end size your looking for.
I find blacksmithing to be a really good teacher about the balance between perfection, getting things done, and creative solutions.
Great to see your post 😄😄
Thanks!
Are they allowing you to submit everything digitally? Do you have to submit the whole process or just your final product? No ABANA affiliate in my state so if I have to do things in person that's gonna make things tougher
Yup. I reached out to ABANA with the same situation you're in. I want to become a certified instructor but no current instructors in the Austin TX area. So I'm working through the course and submitting the videos as evidence.
I also signed up for an online Zoom course (abana.org/2023/01/24/level-i-national-curriculum-zoom-tutorials-coaching/ ) just to see how other smiths are teaching this so I can develop my own curriculum around it.
If you e-mail info@abana.org they should be able to hook you up with someone who can work with you remotely to answer questions and sign off on each step.
@@WatersIronworks thank you for your response. I'll reach out to them and start that process
