It is a english cocker field bred hunting dog. There are 2 types of English Cockers. The Normal Home and Show English cocker and the field bred for hunting English Cocker. If ypu get one of these and you want it for a house dog, plan on a lot of backyard exercise. these dogs need to work so walking is not the answer, they want to work. Mine will retrieve a tennis ball as long as you want to throw it. we also hide tennis balls in our backyard for her to find and bring back and drop in a bucket. They are the #2 Gun Dog in England.
My understanding of the history of both breeds is that big pups from cocker litters were once put in the "Springer" category, while smaller were just cockers. After years of breeding these "springers" together, they became a new breed in their own right. The dog in this video looks a bit small to be a springer to me, but I do admit it can be tough to tell. If this dog's legs were longer, you might even convince me it could be a Brittany, which I own. You'd be shocked how many people come up to me every week to ask of she's an English working cocker or Springer. People guess her breed right at most every couple months, and she's an American Brittany, too, meaning her breed hasn't even been considered a spaniel for 40 years now. Basically, on an individual level, the looks of these spaniel-type dogs can bleed together a lot more than people who crave neat, tidy breed standards might like, especially when it comes to working springers vs cockers. Don't believe me, just look up 10-20 reputable English working line cocker breeders and you'll find plenty of pups which look just like the one in this video.
They are making a come back after a long time absent from the field. Some dedicated breeders brought in some good British bloodlines back to the States. Still outnumbered by Springers, but catching on in some circles. My next gundog will be a Field Cocker. Great upland hunter and can do some duck work, too.
Beautiful, talented animal.
He’s a wonderful dog, so happy to do his job.
Looks exactly like my English springer field spaniel. But I’m no expert. I’m not into hunting at all but it’s lovely to watch them working

English Cocker Spaniels =bliss.
Not/silly question: is it possible to protect the dog's ears as is possible to protect the human's ears, considering all loudness vs sensitivity?
That's not a cocker it's a Springer. I should know I've had 4 springers and two cockers all working strains !!
