Right now I am dead set on a Corolla Hatchback. I have always been a Corolla girl and hatchback has always been what I've gone for. We'll see if I change my mind. I am looking at the ZR Hybrid.
Great detailed comparison , my opinions are exactly the same. I think the corolla hatchback is one of the best looking car in Australia. A few months back I decided to buy the hatchback so went to a dealer and they let me to have the car for a day, that night I had the car engine running with all the lights on in my garage and just looked and enjoyed those beautiful rear lights. Unfortunately I found the back seats are quite cramp and the boot space is not very useable for our needs, especially for our son to sit at the back . I returned the car the next morning and went and checked the sedan, I knew straight away that it would suits us better as it has much more legs room and more boot space, almost comparable to our Camry hybrid. So we bought the sedan with the sacrifice of the hatchback beautiful design for the practical purposes. I also watched your in depth review for the sedan, you mentioned about the rear lights of the sedan are halogen bulbs , I checked Toyota website it said they are LEDs and so my owner manual book also said the same thing so I am a little confused.
I dont understand why people prefer hatch than sedan in terms of looks. I thought sedans looks better and are more symmetrical. Hatches look like somebody smashed the back of the car with a giant hammer
Thanks Matt, personally I think the sedan looks really good, it's not boring and it's not flash, it says that I've got nothing to prove. It has also got better fuel economy than the hatch and a lot more room inside. Personally I think it's a better overall car.
Good comparison review, Something I would like to see more of and very few if any car reviewers ever mention it but it is a deciding factor for me is the country that the final assembly plant is in. The Corolla is an interesting one because the sedans are assembled in the USA (Mississippi I believe but I could be wrong) and the hatchbacks are assembled in Japan making the hatchback a real Japanese import and also being manufactured in the home country of Toyota. Manufacturers are always very sneaky and hush hush about where in the world the choose to build the cars so it would be refreshing to see a reviewer shine some light on it for those people that otherwise might not give it a second thought.
@@ramjay7211 that's a very odd issue... I think it may be an issue with how your speakers are tuned? I'm not having any issues nor a few people I've asked. Thanks for letting me know though - its concerning it's happening!
@MattBrandCars Here's my rub. I'm going to travel around Australia in the next year. First NSW, as I live there. I'm getting a Pod for extra storage space as I'll be camping it. The Hybrid is great for fuel economy. The Sedan is great for space. I live and will be traveling, alone. The hatch is perfect in size for just me and groceries. The sedan is perfect in size for the camping trip. AAAA! How to decide! I'm a pensioner and this car will be mine for an extremely long time. I'm talking at least a decade.
They non-hybrid bersions both have the same fuel economy at 6L/100km. The sedan hybrid is the best of all of them, at 3.5L/100km. I've read the sedan has a better drag profile.
Yeah...I am getting a liitle sound of the guy...but it's so low that I hear puckppick lick tacktick...that too after putting my ears on the speaker and breaking my ear drum from that background noise....
Toyota should have called the Corolla 1.8L Touring Sport Hybrid the Prius, and the new Prius the Prius Sport. The wagon, Touring Sport, has (even more) the practicality of the sedan, and the style of the hatchback. It's really nice. I have one. Shame they didn't market it outside Europe and Japan, although there is the Suzuki Swace, I think.
I wonder if hatchback is more practical. The sedan carries more space for smaller items and airport luggage, but when it comes to big boxes like TV , cycle , sedans can't carry them...a hatchback is more practical for big objects, it can't store much small objects...so I am left in the middle lol
Great review do you get more road noise in the hatch? I have heard a few reviewers complaining about road noise and it's always been in a hatch review.
Been the owner of 2020 corolla hatchback SE upgrade for 3 years and I'm so glad I never went for the sedan has the hatchback has169hp vs 139hp for the sedan.
Can't hear a word in this video, but the music is audible.

The design looks good. I saw it in the dark blue with the dark rims on the street the other day (hatch) and it looked great.
The hatch is gorgeous!

Thanks for the comment! I was sure they were halogen, but I've been wrong before so trust what the website says 🙂

Idk what youtube did, but I can't hear anything you're saying. Only weird music. Probably copyright issues.
Guess I have been converted to liking the sedan version more, in light of your observation. Thank you dear CarSauce.
I’ve heard the hatchback rides a little firmer but is more nimble, did you get that impression driving them?
In terma of firmness, not at all. Nimbleness makes sense - it is a shorter wheelbase! But even that I didn't notice 🙂
Some problems with your audio!!
Can you tell me where please 🙂
@@CarSauce full video. I can only hear music not words

I love the hatchback more for real, but the European version of the sedan is not as boring as the American version of the sedan tbh.. Check them up
No audio for me either on my phone, just background music (audio works fine on other videos). Audio works fine on my laptop.

Same here! Can't hear his voice clearly
But only Europe gets the wagon. Argh. An SE wagon 6MT would be so fun and practical.
I wish we got the wagon here too!
America gets the hatch back I haven't seen or heard of a wagon style Corolla

Great Comparison helped me choose Sedan, I have kids
What color is this hatchback?
The audio is really bad 😟
Hatch - no question
So, buy the Sports Tourer then!
I had more head space in the hatchback than the sedan
I want the sedan.

The audio is off
Hey, its working for me and a friend -- I think it might be your end 🙂
No voice audio just music. 🤷🏾♂️ clearly there is something going on if multiple people are saying no audio.
