We have a 4024 that was selected by my predecessor and I’m trying to add more ssd to it thanks to obscenely low ssd prices. Dell seems to have missed the memo and is offering 2Tb ssds for over $2000. What’s with the markup and do you have any way to get drives for something in a range that reflects the cost of nand flash, a slightly fancier controller, and a better warranty? If it was just about the warranty I’d buy 10 micron 5400s for the price of what Dell is asking. Is this vendor lock in biting me in the ankle? I’m used to FreeBSD systems running ZFS filled to the gills with storage but it appears budget requirements mixed with high pricing led my company to select a fairly low capacity low performance server.
Nice Video Thank you. I have two Dell SAS 330 12 GB HBA controllers on my single stand alone server on which order I have connect these HBA ports with EM4012 Controllers for the best redundancy?
As I understand it, the order does not really matter. Once connected, you can set up redundancy in the system settings. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
How does the new ME4 line go for noise compared to the old MD line? My MD3600F was easily twice as loud as my PowerEdge servers, which would be fine but I dont have a dedicated server room so noise is a factor when selecting equipment.
Hi Tim, You are correct. Potentially louder than a PowerEdge server. As sound is relative and I cannot provide an audio tape, this is what the manufacturer says: Operating sound power ●2U enclosures: ≤ LWAd 6.6 Bels (re 1 pW) @ 23ºC ●5U84 enclosures: ≤ LWAd 8.0 Bels (re 1 pW) @ 23ºC And it mentions this: Due to product acoustics, ear protection should be worn during prolonged exposure to the product in operation. And there you have it! Thanks for commenting and watching!
@@RichLion All of these types of servers or storage appliances are really intended for the server room not only for acoustics but temperature control. Always good to have comments on real world applications. I and others who will see these videos and comments very much appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Thanks for watching!
Your back :D
Hahahahaha! I believe you are the only one who noticed! Much appreciated!
@@Itcreations-LA You'd market almost any server to any guy. Seriously. I want all of them NOW, maybe IT creations has them on stock... right? ;)

Hi does Me4024 has eMMC support on controller failure ?
This guy could sell you your own server in your rack. Skillz
That's a compliment, right? Hahahha! Thanks for commenting and watching!
Nice video. Can you make video on Dell PowerVault ME4084 storage.

Just installed one, with an expansion shelf. Definitely a lot louder than a PowerEdge server, or even server(s) combined.

is better than QNAP?
I hope that was a joke. QNAP is a consumer level NAS, the ME line is at least a mid market commercial SAN.
