Twin beds was popularised by Hollywood films because of the Hayes Code (1934 to1968), "When it came to depicting men and women in the bedroom, the Hays Code offered filmmakers two options. They could have the couple sleeping in separate twin beds, like the wholesome, sexless partners the audience supposedly clamored for. Or, they could show the couple sleeping in the same bed, with one caveat: the woman had to have one foot on the floor for the duration of the scene. Presumably, this was to reassure viewers that no racy acts were about to occur".

As late as the early 60s on the Dick Van Dyke Show (a US sitcom) the bedroom scenes showed the married couple in separate single beds.

@@grahamholmes9630 Meanwhile, in Britain, on the BBC at prime time, two male comedians (Morecambe and Wise) did a weekly skit in which they shared a flat and a double bed, and no one even raised an eyebrow.
Laurel and Hardy did the exact same, back before American censors became so paranoid, prudish and sensitive to absolutely everything. You can blame the same moral crusade of clucking Christians for the subsequent ''Satanic Panic'' which saw them trying to ban Darwin from the school curriculum or Heavy Metal from the airwaves in the 80s.
No other developed, democratic nation has been quite so uptight and paternalistic since the Victorian era. America has a very strange relationship with ''decency''.

I was amazed at some of the pre code movies by the likes of Busby Berkley thewhich were quite risque along with actresses like Jean Harlow. I thought like many of my generation, I'm 62, that we invented sex and pornography. We did not.

Or at least this is what she purported to have happened while telling to my older sisters. Grandma died in 1991 at age 80 for perspective. If you've failed to understand that the 'stiff upper lip' featured here, is mocking a peculiarly British kind of frigidity, then the humour of this video is flying even higher over your head.
Besides, I can't think of a single British movie in the first 10 years after WW2, that had a sex scene anywhere near as overt as that between Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr in 'From here to Eternity' from 1953. Infact, not until the 'kitchen sink dramas' of the late 50s, or early 60's, did the British cinema become more relaxed about sex.
So your contradiction of my original comment, just proves that you didn't understand the video either, so why bother to demonstrate that.......?

It's a matter of time and place I think, my grandparents had separate bedrooms once Granny decided that two children, was plenty. Well, once she came back from hysteria treatment anyways.. A marriage of convenience was not so rare back in the day and as such I don't imagine they'd share a bed if they had no reason to - considering they had chemical castration as an option in Britain for homosexuality, I can see a fair few "married couples" that didn't share a house, let alone bed.

I think the humour is slightly lost on you mate. ‘No sex please we’re British’ sex, for some reason, was seen to be a very unbritish thing to do…. Well all did it but nobody spoke about it. British women were labelled as coy and frigid and viewed sex as something dirty and some that’s not necessary…. Babies just appeared one day…. I think that’s why the stork baby delivery system was invented 😂
