My guess is the second batch of these will sell out right away. If you get the chance I'd hop on the waiting list. ► Check out the MXR X100 HERE - sweetwater.sjv.io/EEzvdW
How can you not love this sound?
Exactly!
I ordered mine and can't wait for it to get here! Love your videos! You seem like one of the kindest people on UA-cam. Keep giving us the videos we want!
Worked on a project in the 90's and the producer brought in a Rockman for the bass player to use. Probably the greatest rock bass tone I've heard on a project I've worked on. I may pick one up just for that.
I tracked all the bass with it as well. I loved the way it sounded.
I have an original Bass Rockman too. Very rare. Sounds great!!
What were the settings for bass?
@@zyxwfish 11. Everything on 11.
I still have the Rockman Soloist my wife gave me back in 89/90. Already got the tones baby!
Sounds fantastic. Great demo.🤘
I came from an era of Big Muff Pi and a slow Phase shifter for solos. I know that I'm very old school, but this is very interesting. Loved Boston.
As a Rockman collector this is a great start to hopefully re introduce the Rockman IP, I hope they continue with making a Stereo Chorus and Stereo echo pedal. In the meantime I'm having fun with my TC Gakki GOAT Blue Series pedals.
Those tones are smackin me right in the childhood bro! This pedal was rereleased with you in mind, Robert!
My older brother owned/played one of the original ' ROCKMAN ' devices back in the late 1980's , I love that saturated sound , it is so smoooooooth ! Tom Scholz knew what he was doing ! Thanks Robert !
Ordered mine from Sweetwater were 4 weeks out that was 2 weeks ago, can't wait it sounds great
Gods of War is such a fun riff. If I get this pedal I'll have to learn Hysteria cover to cover
Couldn’t agree more, such a great riff
Got mine today!!!! Only waited 35 years!!
YESSSSS!!!!!!!
Always loved the Boston guitar tones.
4:55 That chorus-ed tone sounds precisely like Purple Rain. I'm tearing up, yo!
Love the sounds man!
I can’t wait!!!! I got mine on preorder!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
You wont regret it
"Terrible in all the right ways". Love it! Gotta go pull out some Boston vinyl now...
That's what I'm talkin about!
Dude what you opened the video with was awesome i listened to it like 10 times killer man
Thanks homie
8:34 Gods of War
Got one on order!
Yes!
I’ll sell ya one discounted
I got in on that midnight Sweetwater release also. Lucky enough to get one shipped the next day. I've found you really need to use this direct. As a preamp into the return of an amp i found it lost a lot of treble. You can use a graphic eq to get some of it back, but it also sounds just as good going through the tonestack of the front end of an amp also. But you lose that magic clean tone though. Direct it sounds pretty awesome. The cleans really shine and you get that crisp edgy distortion tone that so 80s. If you use a trs splitter cable you can run stereo out right into your interface.
It loses bottom a top to focus the guitar range to cut through the mix.
Yeeeaaaahh! Love it
Rockman life
Great video. Super cool pedal
Mine is coming next week. I love the sound of it. Brings me back.
Mine is on order !!!
Gonna get this for sure
i almost did what you did; buy one right after Leon's video dropped. but i waited til morning and am waiting for new shipment to come in. i love that the pedal is doing well though and hope it inspires more 80s releases. would love to have an MP-1 pedal!
I have the original rockman and rack mounted version with echo from the 80s. This makes me want to dig them back out for some nostalgia.
This pedal seems to give me more than a feeling, and it's quite smokin.
I use it through my Tonex and a clean Fender amp/no cab. Sounds glorious.
This video makes me miss my Rockman. I'll have to pick one of these pedals up at some point.
Call me dumb. Is this a pedal version of that headphones amp thing I had in the early 90s? That thing was awesome. I dig this. Just about dead on.
It sure is :)
Except it has no headphone out
I have one of the OG headphone amp versions that someone gave me around 1993ish because they hated it. I freakin LOVE it, and I use it to record with to this day.
LOVE the Gods of War part... my god.. I love this pedal.
Def Lep has the best riffs.
@@RobertBakerGuitar Wihtout a doubt...
I used to plug into one of the original ones when I went to lessons, my guitar teacher had one, I loved it. The chorus sounds like it's has a touch of phaser, it's a really unique chorus. By the way, Robert you already have the best 80's tone on UA-cam.
I still have the original from 1982. Then in 1984 they came out with a different version. That was the X-100. And I still have that one also. With the original power supply and everything. If this had the echo like the original, I would probably buy it. I think I still have the rack version here somewhere, for hooking to the amp. I used it for years. Even when playing out. It may have gotten lost in the car wreck on the way home from a gig one night. I don’t think I’ve seen it since then.
Me: “Not another weird guitar pedal.” 🤦🏼♂️
Also me: *orders MXR Rockman off Sweetwater in the middle of this video”
My 80s sound consisted of a Marshall 40W combo and a Rockman to me it was the best sound I ever had! Without the Echo its a deal breaker.
Thanks for the review!
Absolutely love mine! Would probably have to try to stack it in a recording situation at some point...
This opening music surpasses your Yngvie video opening as my new favorite! Totally awesome dude! I just bought one, and so excited to get it!
This is a must!! 👍👍
Already have mine also and I love it. It is the sound of my youth in a small package. The chip they use for the echo is no longer in production. That’s why it wasn’t included.
I have mine too. Have you experienced issues with noise? I am, no matter how I run it. I’ve seen other posts about this, but nothing on fixes and I haven’t received a response beyond returning it, which I haven’t done yet.
@ i’m not getting any noise so to speak. I am using short runs of cable to plug it into my interface.
When was "Your Youth" I remember when the rockman came out in the 80's We could never get that Boston sound. What was your experience?
My buddy has an original one from ‘86 or so that he’s used forever and I can’t hear a difference. That’s to say it sounds perfect in the right situation.
Yeah. It's good.
i like the BOSTON TONE always will. i will be getting a rockman
Dude, your chops are always so tasty!
Getting one for sure 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I was also able to get one of the first ones Sweetwater had. Placed the order while watching Leon's video on release day (Jan 23).
So fun.
YES! It is just a blast to play.
That is the best intro ever!!!
Great video. I love, love, love that Boston sound. On another note, some of your links aren't working for me. I get a page with the message "The link you clicked on is malformed. Contact the editor of the originating page."
Great intro tune!
thanks!
It is so musical. It doesn't slam you in the face with any sort of "wow", but there is zero ear fatigue along with full expressiveness. It is addictive in such a low key way. I try not to play it. It sounds so not like what I thought I want to play. But my ears are happy with it. It is not the tone in my head. I think my head was wrong.
Mxr please release the boombox version that was made in the 80’s!! It would sell like hotcakes!
XP100, man I would loose my mind if they did that.
I own an XP100! Love it so much.
@@coregeek XPR Rack unit myself :)
@@Rockmanxpr Very nice!!
Sounds awesome. Good job, Robert. I still have the headphone one
I still want a headphone one as well
It's a distortion box with a compressor built in.
Yeah, ordered it a couple weeks ago when it came online. Sweetwater sold out fast so I'm on the waiting list. Boston and that sound is one of my favs!
I have one coming soon! It is on order! I was hoping you would do a video on this!
Originally didn't plan on making a video but this pedal is just awesome.
Owned a late 80s X100. Cost me like $190 usd in 87-88 in Baltimore! So pretty good new price.
Rob, is it gig-usable or is it strictly for direct recording?
PreOrdered mine. Hoping to use it thru the effects loop of my HeadRush Core.
The Rockman X100 sounds incredible!!
Can you get the full effect by just using as a pedal will it do more if you use it diffrently
I agree with your guess about a second edition with the echo in a year or so.
Yeah and they have me hook line and sinker because I'll want to get it as well.
The tones during the hands-on segments -- were they recorded direct or just via your room mic? If the former, it sounds like the internal stereo switch wasn't engaged.
Got this on order from Sweetwater. It’s gonna pair great with my Echoplex pedal
Yes it will!
And to think Scholz was getting those tones with Marshalls and an EQ pedal in the early/mid 70's. But yea....I need that pedal.
I have sort of a dumb question that has nothing to do with that pedal, which I think is great. When you say Sweetwater sponsors the video, what exactly does that mean? Is there a price to post a video? Sorry to ask this, just curious what it means. Thanks for the help.
They will usually at least provide the gear for free.
I hope they're not sold out 👍 didn't they have a one you could clip on your belt and use headphones 🎧 ?.
I bought one of these the dy it was released. I found the cleans way to compressed. I could actually feel the compression in my ears. Nobody else has mentioned this. I took it back to G.C. I'm thinking maybe I got a bad one that had the compression set way to high. I'll probably try another one.
Agree..not a daily driver but man its got its nitch down and it sounds great!
Dude you have the best avatar picture. It cracks me up every time I see it.
Yeah that the pedal
I had a GK-250 ML
It was basically a Rockman in a lunch box amp with car speakers. Kinda missing it
Robert
In the early 90’s I bought a ROCKMAN SUSTAINER!! I used to place it on top of my Fender Ultra Chorus amp played my Les Paul!! I paid $350.00 for that Sustainer, I wish I kept it 🤦🏼♂️😪
I want one!!!!
Gonna wait til 💰comes down. Not in the budget right now.👍👍
How would it sound with a 12 string?
I still have my original sandwich size one. Recorded at home with it in my home studio in 2001 and took crap for the sound. Now whatever is old is new again? ha!
Gods. Nice!!!!
God of War the clean part at the end of song is awesome
That riff kinda God's of war sorta
Try blending a raging scooped Plexi mic'd up with the midrange of the Rockman distortion channel D.I.....here in lies the killer tones.
I've read the hiss/noise floor on these is pretty bad. Can you confirm?
I still have an original x100.Great but I think line 6 are the way to go(for me) now.
I heard #GeorgeTripp #WayHuge worked on the MXR #Rockman X100.
ProTip: The gain slider is actually a compression slider on the two clean channels. It is a gain slider for the two dirty channels.
I live in the UK, and i am just about to buy this from Thoman slightly cheaper, and free delivery for where i am.
I want to get a decent delay that will work perfectly with this pedal.
Any suggestions?
Echoplex is always a great choice
I have this pedal and it’s the real deal. Get in if you’re on the fence!
Oh wow, your thumb position on the bottom frame @:51 is really interesting.
Chorus sounds very similar what I can get from my BOSS - Dimension-C - DC-2w
Wow. NAMM was iPhone 4s exciting this year.
I still have my original Rockman, but I have to build a new power supply for it.
Didn't the OG Rockman X100 also have "Echo" besides Chorus? Had a headphone jack too
Yeah it did. I comment on that at the end of the video. My guess is in a year or so they will release a deluxe version that has echo
@RobertBakerGuitar 👍
#Sweetwater has two New Modded #Fender Amps. They have a mod shop for guitars. So they also can mod amps with some cool upgrades.
I can wait for the pedal to be available in my country (in probably six to twelve months time). Unfortunately Sweetwater doesn’t ship here.
Thomann has them.
@ thanks, but unfortunately it will cost me an extra $100 in shipping and custom fees to get it to South Africa. I will just have to be patient.
I thought it sounded terrible when it originally came out, and can’t believe it is back.
After watching this , Robert ,I going to get my Rockman back out of the closet!
This has convinced me that I just have bad taste in tone because I think it sounds AWESOME. 😂
My Sweetwater rep said they have over 2,000 backorders on this pedal, including mine.
Wow thats insane. Makes you wonder how many they sold at other stores as well.
Syereo out? Headphone out?
No headphone out but there is a stereo switch on the inside but you need a Stereo TRS lead
@DesSherwoodGuitarTuition at least it's capable of it. 🤠👍🏻
Honestly, why not make a full Rockman with delay and reverb with channel switching.
Bro, I spent my whole life trying to not sound like that thing, and I hate that I sooooo want one!
It's just 80s In A Box, effortless.
HA! YOu can run but you can't hide from the Rockman!
@RobertBakerGuitar I wish I was still doing band stuff.
Just waltz into a metal audition, warm/tune up with this, watch the noses wrinkle...then click over to your real sound and go, "you ready?"
