The fact that James Earl Jones was the only person to reprise his character for The Lion King remake shows how iconic and irreplaceable he was. Thank you, James. You’ll always be our king. ❤
In the original film, you can really see the fear in Mufasa’s eyes when Scar tells him that Simba is in danger and that moment when he realizes he’s done for. In the remake, he doesn’t look the slightest bit concerned. Even JEJ’s tired voice acting tops off the absence of emotion, the VERY THING that is CRUCIAL for this VERY MOMENT!

They actually told Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Simba's original actor, to picture his mom falling. He got so into the moment he screamed "MOM!" on the first take. That's real terror you can hear there in the final cut.
I’m here because of the news. Rest in peace to James Earl Jones (January 17th, 1931-September 9th, 2024), the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars and Mufasa in The Lion King. He will be missed. May the force be with him. 😔💔🙏🪦💐🕊️🕯️
That's the problem: the "live-action" version tried to look as real as possible. As such, it kills all of the advantages of animation. Animation is better when it comes to emphasis, exaggeration, and emotions. You can see all the tension and true terror in the animated version, because of how it was expressed. In the "live-action" version, the animals just go through the motions.
@@nascarfanatic2425which is why they should stop making live actions because it ruins the entire movie/plot. they always make such drastic changes that make the movie's message/theme weak asf

The worst part: no matter how many times you watch this, even though you knew what was going to happen, you still hold on to that small amount of hope that, somehow, someway, Mufasa gets out of this alive, that what you’ve seen a thousand times over, is not gonna happen. But every time, you get disappointed, as no matter what, you have to face the fact that, unfortunately, Mufasa is gonna still be betrayed by Scar, and Mufasa was still gonna die. Long Live the king. RIP JAMES EARL JONES.
RIP James Earl Jones (1931-2024). Now Simba is really crying after James Earl Jones Death. Today is the day Scar threw Mufasa off the cliff leading to this sad day.
This scene gave me chills now knowing that he actually passed away. RIP to the legendary James Earl Jones. He lived such a great life. Sending condolences to his family and friends. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU, JAMES. WE LOVE YOU❤❤❤🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I still prefer Monster Inc., Shrek, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and stuff like that, but I'm going through some temptation to actually watch TLK from beginning to end
I mean it didn’t look like he needed help to get to high ground. He would’ve made it to high ground on his own, when compared to the original, where it actually LOOKED like he needed help.
Yea in the original Mufasa had to use his clause to stay up and he was sliding off In the remake he is holding onto the top and could have easily got up
The last one seems kind of stupid for Scar to do, at least in the old one he's preventing witnesses from seeing what he's about to do to Mufasa but by letting Zazu go call for help he risks the entire pride catching him in the act of killing their king and then he'll be ripped to shreds.
@@colbystearns5066Especially since he later told them he didn’t get there on time. I know he kicked Zazu out of Pride Rock, but that’s still a huge risk.
I don’t really like how Mufasa sounds in the remake when he says “Help me.” He doesn’t like he’s pleading like in the original. He sounds like he’s giving Scar an order.
The voice acting in the remake is horrendous. There is no emotion, and the stiff facial features don't help. The stampede seems so much slower and smaller in the remake too which makes it much less of a threat. The shots are also further out, meaning there's more space around Simba as he's running so there's less of a "omg he's trapped" feeling. Overall, the original is so much better.
@AshFirez I do feel bad for the animators. The director had a realistic style in mind and they did a great job making that work. But...it sucks out the soul of the story and really doesn't work. (I would hesitate to call it beautiful too, as there's no real style and the colours are so dull - but that's my opinion) The voice acting does defiantly affect the story, imo. How are we supposed to care for these characters and what happens if they don't seem to care either? If their voices sound so flat and their faces are so blank, why should the audience work doubly hard to put in the emotion and then care about said emotion? It just makes the movie flop hard.
@AshFirez Yes, but real lions also don't talk, have structured hierarchies that involve monarchy, don't sing, don't have spiritual believes, and so on.
R.I.P James Earl Jones thank you voice acting one of my favorite childhood cartoon fathers in the history fathers. In both The Lion King 1994 and 2019. Mufasa was a hero, a leader and a true king. You be missed!
Mufasa’s death never made me cry as a kid but now that James Earl Jones, one of the actors who has inspired me so much has passed away, it breaks my heart and I now cry during this scene because it feels like James’ death and not Mufasa’s. I will never forget this man who has been part of my favorite film franchise since day one, rest in peace James Earl Jones 😔🕊️
1994: . Mufasa barely hanging on to the cliff side, shouting in desperation for his brother to help him . Scar leaning in close with sadistic glee, as he said “long live the king!” with an evil smile . Mufasa’s shock and utterly look of betrayal on his face moments before he was tossed off the cliff 2019: . Mufasa saying “help me” with both paws on the cliff, looking more like a cat who needs “help” with opening a can of tuna than someone who’s inches away from death . Scar looks more like he’s struggling to remember the speech he rehearsed before giving up and just bitch-slaps Mufasa . Mufasa doesn’t even get a final moment of closure
RIP James Earl Jones (1931-2024) the voice of Mufasa. Now he’s reunited with Sarabi (Madge Sinclair) and Rafiki (Robert Guillaume) in the skies of the Circle of Life.
This truly hits hard after hearing of James Earl Jones’ death. The King has now taken his place in the Circle Of Life. Most remember him as Darth Vader but my generation also remembers him as King Mufasa. He was a legend and he will never be forgotten. RIP James Earl Jones ❤
Honestly, I have some respect for the man who voice acted Scar in the 2019 remake. He tried to be unique and different from Jeremy Irons, but unfortunately, his voice just didn’t suit Scar.
@@zackcross7190 I know that. It's CG animation. However, Disney considered this live-action until it was recognized as the highest grossing animated film of all time (one of the most obvious ways this is a failure) and it was nominated for awards in animation. I probably should've worded my first comment differently though. What I mean is the advantages of fantasy over realism. Or the disadvantages of realism compared to fantasy.
R.I.P. James Earl Jones 1931 - 2024 and I gotta watch Disney's "The Lion King" 1994, Disney's "The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride" and Disney's "The Lion King" 2019 on my Disney+ this weekend to remember James Earl Jones while I'm out!😍
One thing about the original that will never be met at all, is the music. And not just the music. But the voice acting. Simba sounds legitimately scared and worried when he yells out for his dad at 2:44 and it breaks my heart everytime. One other thing is how Simba’s yell transitions the music into a more heavy, intimidating and scary tune. That perfectly captures the feeling. From Simba’s POV he thinks that his dad is bascially going to die. After he just saved his life. In one of the worst ways possible too. Being absolutely trampled by hundreds and hundreds of wildebeests. And we live Mufasa. From the scenes we’ve seen of him from before, he’s such a charming, nice, playful dad. One who definitely doesn’t deserve to die like that. So it’s just as impactful for Simba as it is for us.
You have the most powerful voice, and it will never be forgotten...RIP JAMES EARL JONES THE LORD VADER HIMSELF AND OF COURSE THE KING OF THE PRIDE LANDS!!! ❤️🙏🏾👑
The 1994 film is a lot more emotional than the 2019 live action remake because in the 1994 version the characters showed a lot more emotion than the 2019 remake.
@@pyro2717 disagree. That feels like an excuse. Lions have pretty expressive faces(especially when boinking) and it feels like they really dropped the ball. Sure, lions don't emote as much as they do in the original animation, but they also don't talk, plan coups or appoint hornbills as their majordomos. Their faces are capable of expression, even if they don't show it much and Disney really should have made use of that. I feel like someone could voice over this with an entirely different script and the expressions are so neutral it would have worked.
Let us all agree that the original "long live the king" was waaaaaay more meaningful and scarier(in eyes of a kid)than the remake one you can watch the original and have a little bit of horror and see the feel of betrayal in mufasa's eyes because he had no idea that his own brother would do that The remake did none of the things above
Super Saiyan Blue I know they were going for hyper realism, but come on.. They sucked the liveliness and excitement out of the original. @Ava Livingstone if they wanted to bring back childhood memories they could have re-released the original in cinemas. Its been done before. I love this film as well, I have wonderful memories associated with it, so it hurts a little to see it ruined. However I will admit that I don't have to watch it if I don't want. Its just a shame that we're not getting any new animated films. The last non remake or sequel was frozen which was seven years ago now. (edit: my mistake it was moana, which was four years ago)
@Ava Livingstone there are a couple remakes that I like. Ben hur 1959, the departed, the thing, Scarface starring Al Pacino, and The jungle book 2016. But the reasons I like these remakes is because they do something completely different from the original source. What the hell does The Lion King remake do different? It's just the original with better technology. Just like Psycho 1998. It's just shot for shot. The worst kind of remakes.
I absolutely despise the remake. Let me explain, I grew up with the original Lion King, when I was born, the movie was barely 10 years old, I watched hundreds of times as a kid, and I naturally had large expectations for the remake, and it didn’t meet any of them, it was emotionally dull, and a half baked retread of a movie I adored. In other words, it’s like if your favorite restaurant made a brand new pork sandwich, and you love it from the very first bite, the juices mixed with the condiments and the fresh ingredients make it a wonderful experience, but then they remove it from the menu, then they rerelease it a few years later with a few new changes, like maybe the pork was replaced with chicken or something, but now, everything that was great about the original is gone, it’s a bitter and flat sandwich compared to the flavors of the previous. I use this sandwich analogy to describe half-assed remakes nowadays. And hopefully it actually makes sense

Simba: Sounds like a child who stubbed his toe
Mufasa: Slow, exaggerated fall which adds nothing and looks odd in the animation style, stone face
Scar: Sounds like the socially awkward kid reading off a script in the play his mom forced him to audition for
Exactly.
Yeah I totally agree
They actually told Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Simba's original actor, to picture his mom falling. He got so into the moment he screamed "MOM!" on the first take. That's real terror you can hear there in the final cut.
*Simba sounds like a child who stubbed his toe* my gosh you made me laugh!
No there pretty much the same lmao
Rest In Peace, James Earl Jones. Thank you for bringing Mufasa to life.
I’ve never realized how badass Mufasa looks in the original until seeing the 2019 version.
I’m here because of the news. Rest in peace to James Earl Jones (January 17th, 1931-September 9th, 2024), the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars and Mufasa in The Lion King. He will be missed. May the force be with him. 😔💔🙏🪦💐🕊️🕯️
In the new version it looks like you could still survive that stampede
That's the problem: the "live-action" version tried to look as real as possible. As such, it kills all of the advantages of animation. Animation is better when it comes to emphasis, exaggeration, and emotions. You can see all the tension and true terror in the animated version, because of how it was expressed. In the "live-action" version, the animals just go through the motions.
@@nascarfanatic2425which is why they should stop making live actions because it ruins the entire movie/plot. they always make such drastic changes that make the movie's message/theme weak asf

Yeah it looks like he probably could’ve climbed up
no it doesn’t
And now Mufasa's voice actor James Earl Jones has passed away. Thank you James for doing this iconic role twice, and of course the Darth Vader role. R.I.P James Earl Jones
You are so right, Mufasa has such pure intentions here, it’s such a shame
RIP James Earl Jones (1931-2024). Now Simba is really crying after James Earl Jones Death. Today is the day Scar threw Mufasa off the cliff leading to this sad day.
original: genuine crying
remake: me crying asking myself why is it so shit
This scene gave me chills now knowing that he actually passed away. RIP to the legendary James Earl Jones. He lived such a great life. Sending condolences to his family and friends. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU, JAMES. WE LOVE YOU❤❤❤🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
At least James Earl Jones lived for the 30th anniversary of the original Lion King before his passing.
who else thinks Lion King is the best animation movie to ever be made
I still prefer Monster Inc., Shrek, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and stuff like that, but I'm going through some temptation to actually watch TLK from beginning to end
Me.
Close second after brother bear
From western media it'd be Atlantis and Treasure Planet, and from eastern it'd be Silent Voice for me.
Beauty and the beast is my favorite, but lion king is up there
Why does it look like Mufasa could make it to the top without Scar’s help in the 2019 version?
Because he did
Because he did
I mean it didn’t look like he needed help to get to high ground. He would’ve made it to high ground on his own, when compared to the original, where it actually LOOKED like he needed help.
Yea in the original Mufasa had to use his clause to stay up and he was sliding off
In the remake he is holding onto the top and could have easily got up
Old Version: Scar pushed Zazu while Zazu was overeacting like Mr. Bean.
New Version: Scar ask Zazu to leave the stampede scene only.
@@chestercheetah3210 What do you mean?
The last one seems kind of stupid for Scar to do, at least in the old one he's preventing witnesses from seeing what he's about to do to Mufasa but by letting Zazu go call for help he risks the entire pride catching him in the act of killing their king and then he'll be ripped to shreds.
@@colbystearns5066 Well, he also slapped Mufasa
@@colbystearns5066Especially since he later told them he didn’t get there on time. I know he kicked Zazu out of Pride Rock, but that’s still a huge risk.

The original has emotional while the remake does not have emotional at all!
After finding out that James passed away today, I decided to come here to honour his memory!! R.I.P James Earl Jones!!🕊
I never even realized he played Mufasa.... Man was such a legend.
I don’t really like how Mufasa sounds in the remake when he says “Help me.” He doesn’t like he’s pleading like in the original. He sounds like he’s giving Scar an order.
I agree with you 💯. The original sounds more like a panic fear, and this one sounds more like calm faith.
Stop complaining

Stop settling for trash

I was literally going to say that it sounds like he’s giving Scar an order
And in the original version he said brother but in the remake he didn’t
Thank you, Mr. Jones for both deliveries of this iconic character. Now you really ARE a great King of the past.
2:43 idk why but this is enough to bring me to tears. Meanwhile I don’t have any emotions for 6:04
I couldn't agree more!!!
When I was a boy back in the 90s this scene brought a lot of my friends to tears.. the new one doesn't look emotional at all
Also 2:54, Mufasa leaping out from the stampede, eclipsing the sun and doing a fierce roar like the mighty lion he is! live action was so meh

Mufasa dying in 1994: actually sad
Mufasa dying in 2019: *wheezing from laughter*
The voice acting in the remake is horrendous. There is no emotion, and the stiff facial features don't help. The stampede seems so much slower and smaller in the remake too which makes it much less of a threat. The shots are also further out, meaning there's more space around Simba as he's running so there's less of a "omg he's trapped" feeling.
Overall, the original is so much better.
True
@AshFirez I do feel bad for the animators. The director had a realistic style in mind and they did a great job making that work. But...it sucks out the soul of the story and really doesn't work. (I would hesitate to call it beautiful too, as there's no real style and the colours are so dull - but that's my opinion)
The voice acting does defiantly affect the story, imo.
@AshFirez You too :p
AshFirez o
Dang, this is the only Mufasa death video that didn't get COPPA'd.
Maybe God decided to let us comment about James.

1994:
. Mufasa barely hanging on to the cliff side, shouting in desperation for his brother to help him
. Scar leaning in close with sadistic glee, as he said “long live the king!” with an evil smile
. Mufasa’s shock and utterly look of betrayal on his face moments before he was tossed off the cliff
2019:
. Mufasa saying “help me” with both paws on the cliff, looking more like a cat who needs “help” with opening a can of tuna than someone who’s inches away from death
. Scar looks more like he’s struggling to remember the speech he rehearsed before giving up and just bitch-slaps Mufasa
. Mufasa doesn’t even get a final moment of closure
RIP James Earl Jones. Thank you for lending your voice to our childhood 💔
He joined the Circle of Life.... Rest in Peace James Earl Jones.
Man the stampede looks slow in the remake.
In the remake he can run the same speed as the herd and survive in the original he couldn't even stay still for a second without being trampled

RIP James Earl Jones ❤
Honestly, I have some respect for the man who voice acted Scar in the 2019 remake.
He tried to be unique and different from Jeremy Irons, but unfortunately, his voice just didn’t suit Scar.
But Jeremy Irons will always be our Scar@

Here's a new voice actor that would totally fit Mufasa as a successor Jeremy Jordan
A good alternate title for this video is "The Advantages of Animation over Live-action."
It’s not even really live action.

You think it’s funny seeing animals die that’s not cool dude, you sick😧
The musical cues in the 2019 score are all over the place too, since they timed the scene differently

The 1994 film is a lot more emotional than the 2019 live action remake because in the 1994 version the characters showed a lot more emotion than the 2019 remake.
True :)
Justin Perry yes but in the remake the lions are real so they cant show emotions
@@pyro2717 they are animated, not real (specially since real lions don't talk)
@@pyro2717 disagree. That feels like an excuse. Lions have pretty expressive faces(especially when boinking) and it feels like they really dropped the ball. Sure, lions don't emote as much as they do in the original animation, but they also don't talk, plan coups or appoint hornbills as their majordomos. Their faces are capable of expression, even if they don't show it much and Disney really should have made use of that. I feel like someone could voice over this with an entirely different script and the expressions are so neutral it would have worked.
@@pyro2717 lion king is an animated musical, try to make it realistic its like making a movie from cats, oh wait.

Let us all agree that the original "long live the king" was waaaaaay more meaningful and scarier(in eyes of a kid)than the remake one
you can watch the original and have a little bit of horror and see the feel of betrayal in mufasa's eyes because he had no idea that his own brother would do that

@Ava Livingstone or just not make a remake
@Ava Livingstone what do you mean?
@Ava Livingstone there are a couple remakes that I like. Ben hur 1959, the departed, the thing, Scarface starring Al Pacino, and The jungle book 2016. But the reasons I like these remakes is because they do something completely different from the original source. What the hell does The Lion King remake do different? It's just the original with better technology. Just like Psycho 1998. It's just shot for shot. The worst kind of remakes.
RIP to the king, James Earl Jones. ♥
1994 Simba: Dad!
2019 Simba: Daaaaaaaad!
I find 1994 better even tho I like the remake
Same
I absolutely despise the remake.
