Well Mr.Whistler, I think it's time I thanked you. 17 years ago I developed CPTSD. A form of PTSD with no specific or identifiable triggers. Often I am unable to sleep, or I wake with such severe panic that I cannot leave my home. I found top tens early on, and have enjoyed all of your channels over the years. I just want you to know mate, that you provide me not just information, but also the topics you explore provide my messed up brain to focus on life, rather than internal irrational rambling. Not saying you're a cure, but I needed you, your family, and your staff, to know that you've been a HUGE help in my recovery, and still do daily. Cheers from Canada, and Gratitude.

I would totally watch a Channel called Simon Whistler's Morning Coffee. Where our bald bearded bohemian makes coffee at home, in his office or just pops down to a Starbucks, all the while discussing a dream he had or the weather local politics gossip: really whatever rolls through his cranium on his quest for a decent cup of Joe. Whistler's Java. Caffeine Whistler. Obviously, there are a bazillion coffee company corporations that would sponsor such an endeavor.

This is an aspect of WWII that is often overlooked. Kudos for throwing a light on the dark corners of Fascism. America was also culpable, bringing Werner von Braun and others for their scientific abilities. When you explore European history in that era, there should be a legend warning "Here be monsters" Will you do an episode on Stalin as well?

A tangent to this would be how the United States and the Soviet Union took German rocket scientists who were very affiliated with the Nazis and used slave labor to develop rockets and jet fighters. In the Korean War when the Sabers from the US met the Migs from the Soviet Union they were nearly identical in design.

You should read "the myth of hitler's pope" by Rabbi David G. Dalin. There have been sadly many in the church who were complicit in nazi atrocities, but not the pope. Criticized now for not speaking out, in fact he was quiet because thousands of jews were sheltering in the vatican, or were issued with false baptism certificates, to speak out would be to draw nazi attention to what they were actually doing.

An article from Haaretz points to research by Dr Michael Hesemann, who claims Pope Pius XII may have been involved in arranging the exodus of up to 200,000 Jews from Germany. Criticising him for silence is like criticising Schindler for not speaking out about the holocaust. Again, the same can sadly not be said for all of those in the Catholic Church, but if you have evidence to suggest that he was indeed what you claim I would be interested to hear it.

There's a guy who does a pretty interesting explanation video of new scientific papers, putting one out every single day, except for over the winter holidays, when he makes compilation videos and puts them out. That's the channel that used to be called What Da Math, but now is just Anton Petrov. Well worth a watch, if you like science.

While I really like both of those channels (Casual Criminalist is actually my favourite channel) a little goes a long way. I’m glad for more serious ones as well.

I've seen a handful of videos about the ratlines, and this one is by far is the best one. Detailed, nuanced and fair; pointing to those individuals who are specifically responsible and detailing how they did it and why, and not scapegoating when it is clear there was a failure across the board to catch and hold the Nazis responsible.
I've studied WWII and the Holocaust as a hobby since I was young.
I've watched so many documentaries, films, etc.
I'm always excited to learn more from channels such as this one.

It’s actually hard to watch anything else, I always have so much Simon to catch up on.
It's replaced the History and Discovery channels for me.
It helps that he is just the face of the channels and doesn't do the research or writing for them. Nothing against Simon's productivity, but you are comparing apples and oranges.

The SS was an elite paramilitary squad with rigorous admission requirements. Among other things, members had to prove over a century of Aryan ancestry and swear absolute loyalty to Hitler. The SS was singularly responsible for millions of deaths and assorted atrocities. Take your apologist @$$ somewhere else, please. I'm not hearing it.

Denying so would mean getting immediately shot, there are many records of teenage conscripts being forced into the SS and later captured by the allies, then tagged as SS.
By absolute no means they would have a choice in late war, if the SS wanted them, it was game over.
Many of these are the men being judged today as war criminals for only *being present*, as 16 year old teenagers, in the SS, at the last four months of the war, more likely than not, against their wills. I repeat, is there justice on condemning them to perpetual prison?

As a French thirty-year-old, the name of Klaus Barbie still sent shivers down my spine. It is horrible to my idealistic view of the world and justice that so many countries allowed nazis to come to them (even for scientific research) without raising a single red flag or protest from their conscience. The rise of patriotism and far-right parties in the world scare me, when the Second World War wasn't even a century ago in our collective memories.

It's not patriotism/far-right parties, that's just the propaganda you are fed by democrats for politics. What should send shivers are those who serve their leaders unquestioningly, which can include patriots and far-right parties but is not exclusive. Once you have a large enough group of people who stop thinking for themselves and follow orders unwaveringly you get human travesties and horrors. Rome was a democracy, Nazi's were nationalist, Gangis Khan was a universalist, Russia/China were/are communist socialist, none of them are very similar outside following their leaders blindly or facing death. Every culture and government type is capable of becoming a monster once it's people let go of the reigns.

I love your vids Simon, and deeply respect what you have done to educate millions on dark topics. But I cannot agree with you on this topic. I will continue to watch your vids, and use them. I guess I will have to passionately disagree with you on this, and probably all of your followers. While I am a passionate and patriotic American, I also agree that all countries, ideologies, economic systems, religions, races, and just simply PEOPLE have blood on their hands from the past. All we can do is LEARN from those stories and histories, and try to improve ourselves. None of us are innocent. As I tell my students, we all, as people, all suck. We all have evil inside of us that we wrestle with. Education (and in my personal opinion personal religions beliefs) is the only treatment for the evil that resides in all of us. Education helps people understand and master their emotions, and helps keep people from BEING mastered by their emotions. It allows people to better understand what they FEEL, and consequently usually THINK. But whitewashing, or lieing, or changing history in education destroys this. It promotes the misunderstanding and evil inside of us. I do not shy away from the crimes and failures of the American system, history, or right, or capitalism. Not even in my class with students. But I deeply detest the altering of factual history, as it so severely damages so much.

Do a video on the post-WWII Displaced Persons (DPs) and the related ethic "tidying up" that occurred in various countries at that time. One example is Czechoslovakia forcing, at gun point, ethnic Germans out of northern Czechoslovakia (also called The Sudetenland by the Nazis). This also happened in other European countries as borders were redrawn. Oh, and the Allies (USA, UK, USSR) supported it.
And? The sudetenland was originally taken from German after WW1 and technically was not theirs. Also, why would anyone have pity or care about some nazis being run out of anywhere considering the countries they conquered with killing and rape of locals. Let's not forget the millions killed in concentration camp by the germans. Gonna be hard to find anyone to have sympathy or cares what happened to nazis or germans after the war they started by invading numerous countries and displaced millions
