- During the recent World Tourism Day Summit in Tbilisi, Georgia, Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, noted striking similarities between Jamaica and Georgia, particularly in their approach to tourism and hospitality. Commenting on the cultural synergy between the two nations, Minister Bartlett remarked: “Certainly, the hospitality resonates because it’s the kind of hospitality that Jamaica offers. Today, I heard your deputy minister saying the people of Georgia are the iconic attraction, and it seems they have hospitality in their DNA, and I wondered whether she was borrowing my metaphor because that’s what I say every day about the people of Jamaica.”
Minister Bartlett also underscored the importance of people-to-people connections as a vital element in tourism's role as a peace-building tool, drawing parallels between the two countries in terms of population size and tourism’s impact on economic growth. He expressed enthusiasm about Georgia’s potential as a destination, reiterating that personalities and authentic hospitality help foster meaningful connections, making tourism a driver of peace and unity worldwide.
