    Early morning rounds when there is dew on the ground can be a great way to get practice playing in wet conditions without actually having to play in the rain. I find that there is a middle ground that is especially tough between a dry disc and a soaking disc, when the disc is just moist enough that it kind of wants to stick to your hand and really messes with your release. Play a 3 disc round early morning with only one towel and you'll be dealing with those moist discs a lot and you'll get some good practice in unfavorable conditions without being miserable.

      Agreed. I play most of my rounds in the morning and it is actually weird when I play when it’s dry.

      Ahh man, great idea. However, in Hawaii that is very difficult. Its a very rare occurrence that there is dew on the ground.

      Played my first ever dewey round this morning. Shoes were soaked through by hole 5 and my forehand was minimally effective. Gotta love northern Michigan mornings in the summertime (especially in Ludington)

    I've played a few rain rounds, and they can be a lot of fun. But they were knowing rain rounds, so I brought a jacket or an umbrella, boots, and an extra towel. As a result, I had an entire course to myself for a few hours. Super relaxing.

    Bro robbie I just been getting into the channel you kill it bro! But man I started in November in Chicago crazy situations. Just know for everyone else you need a towel and if your playing in cold weather the jacket matters toooooo much. Thanks Rob keep killing it I'm up to 250 feet 300 is on my doorstep!

    Keeping a few extra small towels in a plastic bag can extend the time before its plumber time. Being a Summer player in Florida, my minimum is four towels on a normal day.

    • @BarbeqdBrwniez
      @BarbeqdBrwniez 3 роки тому +1

      Same. I've always got my decorative towel I use in emergencies clipped on my bag, a second clipped on the other side, and 2-3 in the side pocket. Can't have enough towels! I've even known that it was gonna be wet/ muddy because it had BEEN raining and I just brought fewer discs (basically just dropped the highest speed ones that were more likely to land errant) and even more towels!

      Fewer discs to have more towels would be a smart tradeoff when it gets bad. Good idea.

    • @BarbeqdBrwniez
      @BarbeqdBrwniez 3 роки тому

      @@Beaglefaust yup! Basically just make some room on the side. High speed / premium plastics get useless so there's not much point in them.

    Played a one-day tournament in pretty consistent rain last month. The best thing for me was to just acquiesce to the all encompassing W E T, embrace your inner child, and just enjoy getting wet and dirty. Granted I play in AM4 so I already don’t take tournaments super seriously

    It always rains in Hawaii. This is the main reason why I use Star plastic, because to me, it feels sticky to me rather its wet or dry.

    Great vid. Umbrellas are huge. HUGE. (even the small personal ones are vastly better than none at all...I learned that the hard way)
    One thing left out was...state of mind. Understand you're not likely going to throw your record round. Your disc is slipping? Join the club. Realize everyone is dealing with the same stuff. You chose to be out there, find the positive (and lower expectations). It is what it is. Try to see it as a challenge that everyone is now on a tougher course and everyone is also likely struggling. Learn to laugh at yourself.
    Also...sometimes there's 2 rounds in a day when it's raining. Bring a change of clothes, especially socks. Dry your discs between rounds for a fresh start in round 2. (then try to beat round 1's score)

    Everything you said is flawless, I started doing all of this for awhile now but what I do differently is actually playing rain rounds on purpose to grind in how to play in the rain. Learning how to not waste dry towels in the rain. Once you don't have a dry towel in a round, your round could or will be basically over if it is raining hard. I play rain rounds to drill in the procedure so when it rains, I don't have to think about it and can focus on my round.

    We live in the Pacific North West. If we didn't play in the rain we would never play lol. Wind and Rain definitely make rounds interesting. But like you said... If you can play well in wind and rain, you'll have a leg up on those "fair weather frolfers!"

    Me and buddies went out to play a round, I've always worn water resistant trail running shoes for disx golf and have a rain jacket in my bag and a towel of course. It quickly turned into a rain round which wasn't the plan or expected. I found myself changing my grip so many times and over adjusting messing up my release. So now I'm here trying to see what I could have done to save my round as I literally fell apart after the rain started while two of my buddies kept slinging it

    Learned something new, lower speeds and base plastics are better for rainy/wet conditions. I live in Northern Illinois so we get all the weather conditions. Next time I'm out in the rain, I'll have to try more low speed disc and some base line plastics.

    Robbie, do you think a grip bag would help with hand blisters from throwing?

    • @RobbieCDiscgolf
      @RobbieCDiscgolf  3 роки тому +1

      Part of me thinks blisters come from time of getting reps in to get some hardened hands. However I’m not sure how intense the blisters are, which could be another issue!

    It takes a little bit of practice to get used to but a set of friction gloves can really help when throwing discs in the rain. You can pick up a set for $20-25 and they are pdga approved so you are allowed to use them in tournaments. Not a bad idea to just have a set in your bag just in case.

  • @matthughes2069

    Here are two things I am surprised more people don't discuss: 1) Lowering my expectations a bit when in heavy rain leads to less frustration and actually helps me focus on my grip just enough without overthinking it. 2) A chamois is great for holding massive amounts of water. It will eventually stop pulling water off of your discs, but it prolongs the life of your disc drying towels immensely! I keep mine folded behind and over my discs in the bag. Also if conditions are bad enough, everything will end up just pushing the water around on your disc 😆 then it's time to embrace the suck.

    Great tips. My first rain experience was during the third round of a tournament. Was in the lead but did not finish that way... Could have used these tips 5 years ago Robbie C 🤣

    Would be great if you would make a video on how temperatures affect discs flight and grip. Here in Finland playing in 1m of snow with icy tpads is definitely a whole other challenge. it was shocking how much more flexible discs became when summer came knocking in June.

    • @RobbieCDiscgolf

      I’d always recommend a dry bag, a mini, and snacks.
      In southern humidity and heat, I keep my dry bags in my hand pretty much the whole round. Sticky hands on putts are the worst!
