Too bad TV shows were out, since Death from Supernatural is awesome.
deaths to be frank and they get called reapers in it but could still be on the list you talk of
Travis Senart No.... They mean Death. Like the Horseman of the Apocalypse. He is in the show and is like leader of all the reapers you are talking about
Travis Senart No, death as in death, not as in reapers. different thing.
Or The Angel of Death (aka Shacath) from American Horror story: asylum
I was just thinking the same thing.
I personally love the Final Destination version of Death. The idea of Death not being a physical entity, but probability given a dark personification and intelligence makes for a very suspenseful film when the antagonist is something that you can’t see.
Reeker is just like that but shows it as a physical entity to the ones doing the dieing but not to others who arnt dieing if they did a remake of it and made it more serious it would be a master piece
I agree. Should’ve made top 5 on the list
Wow. No shit.
Yea man, I agree
It was a interesting idea and delivered well, it's not always Hollywood would sit at a idea of a being becoming a a non physical entity as above said, they like to create hyped manifestations for appeal.
"you may be a King or a street sweeper but in the end everyone dances with the Grim Reaper"

“It’s a Mr Death or something? He’s here about the Reaping?” 😂😂😂
Sounds about right 😂
Yeah that's embarrassing
They all looked like men in women's clothing
@@sweetsmiles2156 Well ain't you a sharp fellow. :D
Retro Raider you will be the next...
the hellboy one was the sickest
Even better when you know that was a handmade costume, not CGI.
Yeah, the only good one on this shit list, and they put it in the 10th position... lol
@@SirKolass exactly lol
@@RyanPratten how is that better?
yea bro wtf did they made…
Biblically the most accurate depictions of angels/cherubims closely matching the Helloboy Clip....Scary
Exactly!!!
totally agree with you on this one!
That’s what I was thinking. As described in Daniels vision
Supernatural's depiction of death for me is the greatest of them all. Somber, old, not scary because of how he looks but because he simply exists. Absolutely unique. I hate that they killed him so fast in the series😕. Also his theme song was chilling🖤
Best entrance in cinematic history
I agree with you but this list wasn't about television (or the generic film) version.
It reminds me of the Strange Man from a video game called red dead
@@JessRansdellSmith If it included gamed The Strange Man should be there imo
"It was the salmon mousse!"
Never has a line of death been delivered more hilariously..!
I didn't even eat the salmon mousse.
Hey, but I didn't eat the mousse! (M. Palin)
That whole sequence was the best part of the entire film!
A pity the Discworld movies aren't well known.
Death in that universe was my childhood. Reaping was just a job to him, and he wasn't cruel at all. He was just there to separate the soul from the body and get people to move onto the other side.
He's fascinated by Humanity to the point of adopting a daughter and hiring an apprentice. And he has a horse called Binky.
If the Grim Reaper was real I'd wish it was like him.
The list was okay, but the murderous child entry felt like a cop-out. Felt like he was just a zealous follower of Halloween tradition with super human strength (stringing up an adult like a Predator without witnesses?) as opposed to a reaper XD
Definitely, the only reason I watched this was hoping for a Hogfather mention. That totally should have replaced #4.
Weap0 If anything, should have been number one. Discworld Death is the best.
The first Discworld book i read was "Mort" and Death instantly became my favorite character. In every book i'm always waiting for him to show up.
Not entirely unlike Death from "Meet Joe Black". He had taken interest in humanity and wished to learn about it, and in doing so, became very human himself.
SQUEEK!
The logic of putting Sam on there would mean that any serial killer or slasher would be a representation of death. Every death bringer is not Death.
+Melody Weckel I do agree that Sam wasn't really a version of Death. I saw him more like the spirit of Halloween than death, but not really a serial killer/slasher. He was more paranormal than that.
I thought Sam was a demon, not necessarily death.
+Mario Vera Sam is samhain the spirit of Halloween.
Oh how much I miss Terry Prattchet's Death. This one is so different from any other anthropomorphic personifications, it should deserve a place in the list.
Not forgetting the Death of Rats...
@@loraweems8712 adorable death
Yes indeed he was always up to murder a curry😅
*I still think these video did dirty with hellboy's portrail of death..i think it deserved first place*
Maia Cullen Not to mention Binky
At least top 5
Hell no the seventh seal is waaaaay better
if you feel that way I suggest you to watch Seven Seal.
Bengt Ekerot picking was the right 1. It is pretty much Ekerot and than the rest of list.
I know it doesn't technically count but Terry Pratchette's Death deserves a mention. What other character has an awesome introduction on a sleek white horse. Gets off the horse in an awesome manner. Approaches the main character. And proceeds to slip on some ice and say "Oh bugger"
I totally agree.death having no personality was his personality made Terry Pratchett's death awesome and so funny....
what other death ever played Santa to save the world? Makes appearences for every near death experiences to crack dry jokes, likes cats and actually teaches people that swords are not meant to be save :D
Not to mention the moment in the Colour Of Magic film where he claims to have "not another near-Rintzwind experience..."
Annemarie van Peer lol
Nathan Kingham they did three Terry Pratchett movies. Death is in two of them. They made the color of magic and Hogfather into movies.
I just saw some bloopers of Hellboy: The Golden Army and that depiction of Death is not CGI; it's practical effects.. I was genuinely surprised.
Sharath SH If you can do it convincingly with practical effects, it always looks better. (And it's usually cheaper.)
Nasro Subari I'm telling you, that's why I was surprised. On how convincing it is..
Sharath SH ^_^ You don't need CGI when you've got Doug Jones~
C.Y.B.E.R.B. He sure does some crazy stuff..
C.Y.B.E.R.B. Doug Jones is crazy talented
I always imagined Death would sound like Alan Rickman.
I had never thought of what I'd think Death would sound like, but I absolutely love this idea. Thank you, lol, I will now be disappointed if Death doesn't sound like him.
@@beautifulpain670 there is movie in which guy asks death to play chess with him.
Nah..that’s the Metatron 😂
Dogma! RIP Alan Rickman
The seventh seal (det sjunde inslaget) is quite frankly a masterpiece, ever since I was a child me and my mom would quote it just for fun! And there's these particular lines i know by heart! I really do recommend it to pretty much anyone as it is a visual masterpiece
I've seen it it's pretty good
I love the seventh seal
Hellboy's death is a masterpiece
in Hellboy 2, it's not the death, it's samael, the angel of destruction, the real one, not that stupid dog from hellboy 1
Reboot
Mad World nope. They are doing a reboot..🙄😧
It's strangely beautiful and terrifying at the same time.
Honestly, one of the best movie creature designs I've ever seen, both terrifying and beautiful
If you've never seen "The Seventh Seal", it's the grimmest, dreariest, blackest, subtitliest, most depressing movie ever. Go see it.
+revseth Why would I want to watch a movie after reading a shitty review like that? Dreary, black, depressing, and full of subtitles? How about go fuck yourself?
Whoah! We got a badass here, folks. Watch out, thug life!
+revseth Haha I actually like this review. This movie is definitely on my list of must watch, especially after hearing that Max Von Sydow, the old man in the beginning of Star Wars Episode VII, plays the knight and gives a great performance.
This is truly the king of arthouse films, I guarantee you'll love it!
+INsane saniTY Haha, originally in "Bogus Journey", death was going to be a skeletal animatronic mask, but I guess due to budget restrictions, they went with the "Seventh Seal" look.
I think the Angel of Death from Hellboy 2 should have been higher up on the list. It has a skeletal and androgynous appearance showing how Death is "the great equalizer," and depspite its skeletal and decrepit appearance, it still has a strong, regal, and graceful quality in how it carries itself. Amazing work by creative team behind the movie: make up, costume, art departments, Guillermo del Toro, and Doug Jones who played the Angel of Death.
I think that "Death" from "Prince of Egypt" should have the top spot.
oh yeah.... didn't think of that.... thx for reminding me
Loved the Death from Supernatural TV Show.
Not a movie but definitely the best!
+MorrisMeynolt Did you notice in the Trick or treat movie there's Gadreel!
+MorrisMeynolt Ohhh yes! Not a movie but so brilliantly portrayed.
+MorrisMeynolt Indeed! My favorite death of all time. So beautiful displayed.
+MorrisMeynolt Was just about to say it.
The killers from "Trick or Treat" and "The Freighteners" aren't actually grim reapers. They're just murderers. By that definition, every single villain in slasher flicks could have made the list.
Mark Brown Glad to know I'm not the only one irritated by that.
Mark Brown They explained themselves well enough in the video. I think it's fine the way it is.
+Emmalith Drako "While this wee one may not necessarily be a reaper, he's definitely a death dealer."
If dealing death makes you a depiction of Death or the Grim Reaper, then Jason, Michael Myers, Freddy Kruger, Chucky an any villain in any horror film qualifies for this list.
For The Freightners, it's "The ghost of a serial killer posing as the Grim Reaper" not the actual Grim Reaper. The killer from Scream is also wearing a costume that resembles the Grim Reaper. Should that count? Should the guy in the opening to Scrooged be on the list too?
+SinZephyr Even if you count Johnny Charles Bartlett because he pretended to be the Grim Reaper, how does Sam from Trick or Treat, more of a scarecrow than a reaper, count as death or the Grim Reaper? Or is there some popular depiction of the Grim Reaper wearing a burlap mask with button eyes and stitches across his mouth that I'm not aware of? And Dementors or Nazgul also wear black hoods and kill people. Should they have made the list?
You're absolutely right, +Mark Brown! I guess the Watchmojo team was short of grim reaper movies to make this list a top 10? That's just pathetic!
I know it's from an animated family movie, but Death from the Last Wish deserves to be on this list.
No doubt
It probably would, would this video have been made today
American Horror Story's Angel of Death played by Frances Conroy one of my favs

Death isn't good nor bad right???? it is an entity that has the job of taking the souls of people to the afterlife right???? well that's how i always imagine Death to be,a neutral force of the universe.
***** humm i see,i misunderstood because in various forms of media, they show Death as an entity
***** kkkk i see your point.
***** humm,i get it,thanks.
homelander4458 You are absolutely right he is neither good nor evil, he just is.
***** I know that, I was just referring to the myths.
My favorite depiction of Death in fiction will always be Zane from On A Pale Horse by Piers Anthony, mostly because of how he presents Death as a mortal tasked with the job like it’s a political office and how Zane himself is not shy from saving a life he is meant to take or take ones that are not yet ready to die, all as a form of mercy and comparison, making Death more human in the process.
Yes. There was some talk of a movie, Piers even said that the movie rights had been sold - but nothing has come of it...
@@loraweems8712 the closest we’ve got is the Dead Like Me TV show
@@CharlemagneGuy127 true. I enjoyed the show
The whole series was amazing. All 7 of them. My personal favorite was " For Love of Evil" . "Bearing an Hourglass" was odd but fun. ✌️🖖
@@russward2612 There's an 8th one, you know. Or are you just skipping that on purpose because you didn't like it ala the whole "There's only three Star Wars films" thing?

The death from Monty Python at the begining ^^ You read my comment about it right ?^^
Wow Mojo, not only are you now including more foreign cinema, you're even putting some in your top spots too. So nice of you :)
You forgot Death from 'Hogfather' TV movie. :(
What about Ghost Rider?
Do video games next
Great Video! *this is an amazing list! keep up the awesome work!*
The Frighteners is one of the most underrated on the list. Happy to see it among one of the three top. I love that film. Some considered to be a weak story, a movie that doesnt "know" if it's a horror or a comedy. I rather think of it as a perfect balance between horror and dark comedy. It's both, just as much.
I'm swedish, and my sister and i loved The seventh seal when we were kids, it was the only black and white movie I had seen and we eventually learned most of the lines, we were strange children hah. I'm happy it's on this list!
Ive seen that movie recently, its really awesome :)
Jonathan Gun You remind me of the days when I wish most people would think with what's between their ears and not their legs.
Hermaeus Mora The wording of that comment made no sense.
***** I'm well aware of what he meant, but I find it hilarious that he decided to get all preachy and self-righteous on youtube with grammar of such terrible quality.
Sgt SkySyndrome Oh, what's this? An argument lacking substance? Does this require my attention? Perhaps it does, perhaps it does not, but it's amusing all the same. Grammar of such terrible quality? By all means, do point out where my grammar is incorrect, but more importantly, explain the relevance. There is no error in my grammar, it is a simple sentence complete with subject and predicate.
If my comment came off as preachy and self-righteous to you, then perhaps you need to study context a little better -- otherwise, you merely come off as pretentious.
The Grim Reaper: making the world a better place, one asshole at a time
This should have more likes, great comment
Truly.
Mr. Handel-Bar he might actually be real in a way, like final destination
Mr. Handel-Bar that is so true
Honestly who knows he may just be the decider of the time of someone's death not something to do with the devil
There should have been mention of the death Character from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.
Cats are nice
Excuse me. Hogfathers Death in Discworld. He was voiced by Christopher Lee. He was amazing.
and not the only time Sir Terry's Death appeared in film.
I believe you'll find Death in the Sky version of Hogfather was voiced by Ian Richardson, not Christopher Lee.
Sam is the personification of Halloween, not Death.
Short for Samhain, perhaps?
Yes, that is who he is, Samhain or just Sam
It's not Jack Skellington? X)
Thank you.
Thank you
how about the grim adventures of billy and mandy?
Exactly!

i know this is about movies, but my favorite depiction of death is defenitely the angel of death from american horror story season 2 (asylum).
she was so gentle and comforting and quite chilling, it was perfect. and i think that is exactly what death really is. it's just so beautiful and different.
Christopher Walken in Click at least deserved an honorable mention.
The Tale Of The Three Brothers from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1
+Margootemansj That whole segment was beautiful...
amazing sequence
Why is death considered to be evil? He's just picking up souls he doesn't exactly kill them. The book thief's death was probably the best.
souls
+Griffin Jurisson oops, i'll fix that (i feel stupid for making that mistake)
because everyone is scared of death
agreed
ilovsapinta To me death is nor good or evil. It is one of the few angels I consider to be of equal parts. Can have mercy or show nothing at all.
I think Christopher Lee's Death in The Color of Magic is one of my favorites, sad it wasn't on the list :(
@Pivos Pivepic nah it just shoulda been on this list haha
*"You have air conditioning?"*
*"Sure, fucks up the ozone layer."*
Even though it won't be years to come, I think that Lady Death, from Marvel Universe, will make a scene in a movie and I guarantee that she will be the best death ever. She is feared by all but loved by one, Deadpool. And she makes death look sexy!
Isn't Thanos in love with her too?
Matt Cullen That too... so she may come out earlier!
Matt Cullen yes he is, but death chose deadpool over Thanos and Thanos made deadpool immortal, and deadpool fell in love with death he tried to kill him self alot, but his regeneration and healing powers where just to great for him to die.
Matt Cullen yes he is, but death chose deadpool over Thanos and Thanos made deadpool immortal, and deadpool fell in love with death he tried to kill him self alot, but his regeneration and healing powers where just to great for him to die.
Jose Turtles But didn't recently Death choose Thanos over Deadpool?
Death in supernatural shpuld have atleast been an honorable mention
Sean R not a movie, dumass
Jarlaxle Baenre haha calling other people dumbass and i cant even spell XD
Sean R I completely agree, He is definitely one of the coolest depictions of death I have seen on TV. But Jarlaxle is right about it not being a movie though. Bummer
+Sean R This is only in movies. Maybe a list should be compiled of TV Deaths. I would vote for Discworld Death.
*Edit* Oops, there's already a video for that. I'm gonna see if Discworld Death is on it.
"Hon, you didn't use canned Salmon, did you?"
I always pictured Death/Grim Reaper as a calming presence. He/she not being the judge of when/how/why you die, just the one who guides you to the afterlife. I imagine they would greet you as an old friend, beckoning you to follow them.
'Fictitious realisations of death."? As opposed to the non-fiction depictions?
Well that's a thought provoking comment. Could one not say a virus, as the potential for death, is a realization of death?
Death does not exist
Cold does not exist
Darkness does not exist
We do
VicariousReality7 Oh sorry, lets just change everything from death to "absence of life" to appease your abstract thinking. Btw who knows, maybe death exists. *winks but u wont get it anyway fucks sake no one gets it ever*
***** I was saying, could you consider a weapon in the hands of one who wants to harm a representation of death, because it is the potential for death? I was not stating an opinion, simply hoping for intelligent discussion. Don't know what the point of your comment was, but whatever.
VicariousReality7 how can death be real if our eyes arent real
Best "Death" actor hands down is Julian Richings from Supernatural
Shut the fuck up fangirl.
+LGaming Uh oh, internet warrior makes a good valid point!
movie depictions unfortunately, otherwise I'd agree
true I loved death in supernatural
Showing him, Aserias!
Then narration is impecable and that's why I love your videos.
Death from The Seventh Seal and Death from Monty Python alongside Last Action Hero are some of the better ones off this list to me. Hellboy 2's Death is also awesome as well.
I know it isn't particularly well known, but Death from the Hogfather movie is brilliant.
Terry Pratchet's Death is one of my favourite's.
Book or movie do you know him best?
I like when he becomes the Hogfather/Santa.
YES.
That answer was a little open ended...
now we need a videogame version of this
death from castlevania !!
A watchmojo video game would be weird
Already done mate
The Strange Man, from Red Dead?
Death from Darksiders.
I thought Sam was short hand for Samhain?
My favorite is the specter of Death from The Final Destination franchise. .
What's not seen or invisible is the scariest!!!!
Very late to this video but Puss in Boots: the Last Wish has one of my favorite depictions of death. His presence is very weighty in the film, and each step is menacing, as if impending doom looms over Puss in Boots.
What about Grim from The Adventures of Billy and Mandy?lol
It had a movie, but it was in TV depitctions of the grim reaper also can't spell lmao
First of all, Sam shouldn't even be on this list. He's not a grim reaper. He's the spirit of Halloween itself. In some cases (i.e. the children on the school bus), he's a spirit of vengeance.
Anyway, my favorite representation of Death from this list is the Angel of Death from Hellboy II: The Golden Army. I thought he was beautifully indifferent and stunning in appearance. Totally badass.
really good list !
Death from Harry Potter (the tale of the three brothers/the deathly hallows.
The Death you showed in the solomon kane honourable mention wasn't death.
You only see the devils reaper at the beginning of the film.
Such an awesome reaper
Yeah its a shame he wasn't more prevalent in the film. i mean technically he's always there waiting for solomon to fuck up but we never see him
Solomon kane's reaper deserved a spot on the list it was done so well
Flying Rancid M00n Fish My only gripe was that he didn't have a scythe of fire, but a sword. other than that he was amazing.
Yeah, I noticed that too. He's one of my favorite depictions of Death in movies lqtm.
I miss the death of the discworld. Albeit it was only portrayed yet in TV-movies (like Hogwarts), and in the novel-series of the great Terry Pratchett it is clearly THE DEATH PERSONIFICATION OF ALL THE MOVIES
+Lightningchase1973 i recently started discworld and am on book two, and my uncles says its rly good. is it?
Orion Freed Indeed they are excellent. Great Humor. Very nice parody on real world, od these and ancient days, on clishes and on stereotypes. Also a real good mixup of classical (slapstick), hidden and a good splash of very black humor.
+Lightningchase1973 yes, I agree. I was wondering if it would be there when I started watching and was quite disappointed...
+Orion Freed it is perfect! I already finished stories of Night Watch (really sad about it, it was GREAT)
Terry Pratchetts version of death is amazing, also one he carried over into some of his other works 🙂
They never even mentioned jack the reaper and that guy is scary
The way Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows depicted death was pretty awesome. Loved the art style they used.
Same, I was really hoping to see it on here. Though I suppose it's not really a character within the movie itself.
It's also animated, not live action. Well, the film was live action of course, but the telling of the Three Brothers was animated, so HP's Death isn't elligeable with this list since it's looking for those acted by real life.
Okay, by your own admission, Sam from Trick 'r' Treat is not a personification of death ... So why is he on a list of personifications of death?
Zachary Matthew James Meh, I dunno..
This needs to be updated for Puss in boots: the last wish
Awesome video
Sam or Samhain is NOT Death or a personification whatsoever. He's the spirit of Halloween. smh.

Mr. Grimm from Twisted Metal 2!
Thanatos from God of War: GoS
and Death from Dantes Inferno & Castlevania
Justin Kane yes those are all great ones too!
Nito
Dahaka from Prince of Persia Warrior Within
Love the Hellboy Angel of Death. Stunning design
There’s nothing that Death the grim reaper despises more than immortality. It’s the entity’s only pet peeve because obviously it defies the rules of mortality.
I like it when "death" is depicted as a woman, it reminds me of Morgan Freeman as god, a nice change sometimes
Like in marvel?
I believe there are actually more cultures that depict death as a woman. The Marvel Lady Death is based off a Mexican personification
why? why do you feel a need to identify death as a women? why is it important? Death is not human anyways.
Merlith Gero because making him look like a man (all except one movies in the vid) or giving him male attributes (Discworld's death) sort of became a cliche.
MrKosobi its not a cliche, its based on a personification that is male. also, most of them are just skeletons. having a dark voice dosent make you male.
"In English, Death is often given the name "the Grim Reaper" and, from the 15th century onwards, came to be shown as a skeletal figure carrying a large scythe and clothed in a black cloak with a hood. In Jewish tradition, Death was referred to as the Angel of Life and Death (Malach HaMavet) or the Angel of Dark and Light stemming from the Bible and Talmudic lore. The Bible itself does refer to the "Angel of Life and Death" when he reaps Egypt's firstborns, but he is not connected to Satan. There is also a reference to "Abaddon" (The Destroyer), an Angel who is known as the "Angel of the Abyss". In Talmudic lore, he is characterized as archangel Samael."
"The Mask of the Red Death" is originally a novel by Edgard Allan Poe
Finally a top ten list I agree with especially no 1 from my fave film "THE SEVENTH SEAL".
I thought The Frighteners Grim Reaper was the absolute best! I remember when it came out- the death of dude in the bathroom was AWESOME!
Trick r Treat doesn't count.
horrorjunkie92 If trick r treat counts then Silent Hill's Pyramid head should at least get a mention
Wait a minute, why is the Angel of Death for Hellboy no.10? The creepy design and voice were great!
yeah i agree its one of my favorite movies of all time! geesh that thing still gives me nightmares o.o
TheSwedishViking Haha, me too with Del Toro's Pale Man from Pan's Labyrinth! Man, that guy is a genius with eldritch creations.
his hands looked too fat if you ask me. just a random thought
Perry Davis Lol, well, he/ she/ ? ain't human... :P
I agree, best death by far... greatest artistry and imagination of the bunch. I think it's just less known.. Which is too bad, because this is one fine film. If you weren't satisfied with the tiny glimpses of Guillermo Del Toro's fantasy world in Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy 2 delivers what you crave
!
LOOOOOOOOOVE The Frighteners! The first time I watched I thought it was going to be some goofy movie with MJF but it turned out to be so much more!! One of my favorites!
"You have sunk my battleship." Gets me every time. 😂
Er... isn't it a little redundant in a way to have the Death from Last Action Hero and Bill and Ted in this AND have Death from the Seventh Seal? I mean, the other two are both references to the Seventh Seal one...
watchmojo dude u cant except anything from them ...
if by redundant you mean brilliant then yes it is very redundant
mic eatah WATCHMOJO is BEST MOJO
You know what that Angel Of Death looks like? A FUCKIN CLICKER.
Also, No Eyes from Pans Labyrinth mixed with a Clicker from The Last Of Us.
Haha yeah so true :')
Wasn't that Iggy Pop? I'm pretty sure he really IS Death.
The eyes were on his(?) wings.
Well, both Pan's labyrinth and Hellboy 2 were made by Guillermo del Toro, and all of the masked creatures from both movies are acted by Doug Jones. As for the Clickers, it's because of the mushroom growth on their faces that their eyes cant be seen.
For me, Supernatural got an awesome version of death! That epic scene with the song "Oh Death"

Death in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for Amazing!
These where shit man.. always with the old movies while the new once look so much better...
Except old movies had charm and personality. Whereas new movies are like Booogie booogie boo I'm death I scared you so bad didn't I?
Older movies are some of the best maybe you should stop looking at them as old and start appreciating their art. Check out some older films like Blade Runner or Mad Max.
You're either really young or really stupid
HarleyQuinn97 or both
Guys dont get me wrong i watch a lot of old movies and like them.. But meant graphical wise the overall look of death/the reaper... i dont remember which one it was but, one death was just a man with a white painted face.. that played battleship... thats just..
death from supernatural t.v. show.

No kidding. Not to mention we have almost a full season of build-up to his arrival.
I saw this vid in my suggested videos and I just happen to check when it was made and it was 9/3/2014 and today is 9/3/2019, exactly 5 years to the day.
I thought that was actually pretty cool, and the vid itself was great too
Glaring omission of Jessica Lange as the Angel of Death in All That Jazz - should have been at least top 4.
An abstract Death you could have included is the animated section in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows called: The Tale of Three Brothers.
I Boostify another good abstract one would be The Ghost of Christmas Future in almost any Christmas Carol adaptation. All he shows is the death of Scrooge and Tiny Tim and is usually depicted as a typical reaper. I like how Jim Carrey's version did it with it only being seen as a shadow or reflection of something
Neon Light I thought that would be at least in the top 3
i know its not a movie but the depiction of the Grim Reaper in The Hogfather was really good / the classic look =)
***** I agree, the Hogfather,s Grim Reaper is great! In fact, that is what got me interested in Terry Pratchett's Disc World series.
***** they made it into sort of a movie. that was my favorite depiction of death anyways.
We need another Top 10 movie Depictions of the grim reaper and death. #1 has to go to Lobo from Puss in Boots 2. Hands down one of my favourite Dreamworks villains.
@watchmojo can we get top 10 versions of the four horsemen?
6:23 Ian Mckellen? when did you go from Gandalf the Grey to Angel of Death?
Hate to be the one to have to tell you... he's this thing called an actor
+Deere55 i know
He actually was a Shakespeare stage actor for a very long time before doing any film work. No wonder he's freaking awesome.
Sir Ian Mckellen actually, give the man his proper title!
no way? For All I know, He's Magneto.
It may just be me, but I never found the ending of "The Seventh Seal" to be depressing. The knight goes from resisting to the inevitable to accepting it and truly escapes from the world of death and misery that surrounds him in mortal life. It is probably one of the most uplifting endings in a Bergman film.
Bill and Ted's Death being into board games is no shock, he was drawn directly from the Seventh Seal's version.
"The cemetery man" is as far as I know widely more known as Dellamorte Dellamore.
I love how three of the top ten are basically Death from the Seventh Seal. It's obvious in Last Action Hero and in the Seventh Seal (of course). Death in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey may not be specifically identified as such, but it's pretty obvious the whole "play games for your soul" idea was taken from the Seventh Seal's chess game with Death.
Sam is more like the Spirit of Halloween than Death IMHO !! :P
NinjaAdorable Agree.
yup
Agree
Adorei a adição da Morte de Zé do Caixão (Coffin Joe)!
Senti falta da Morte em Harry Potter e as Relíquias da Morte Parte 1
Ryuk? Where is Ryuk?
+Senpai there is a movie already
+emre subasi Ryuk wouldn't fit because it belongs to another culture, were there isn't a single personification of death but rather several that do the same.
+SwatTeamExit shinigami are the grimm reapers of japan
+emre subasi He isnt Death
+Jim Farley I loved that show! It was such a neat and original concept!
