I didn't know you or your channel before and I saw this video on my feed. It was definitely one of the best videos I've seen in a while and I'm shocked that it doesn't have a couple hundred thousand views. The overall quality, the work put in, your honesty, believability - 10/10. It was refreshing to watch something that actually feels real and relatable instead of multi-million channels that do challenges that seem fake/organized. Thank you for sharing your story. Subbed and awaiting next videos. Best wishes from Poland, buddy!
"Hey do you want to buy some iPhone cases, they're not the greatest quality" 😂 That was hilarious hahaha. Cold-calling is tough!
I was so done with them at that point haha, I probably could have tried other places or other methods if I wanted to play Long Game rather than getting them out of my hands.
Great video Matt!! And it was an honour to be your first consult, I absolutely recommend your services! 🥳🎉
Thanks Kaya for being my first UA-cam consulting call! Glad you like the video too :)
24:50 it really is refreshing how unashamed and open you are with your debt, and your journey to recover. good luck man!
You did a really good job on the 1 minute drawings!!!
I'm honestly quite proud of some of them!
(some I don't think about)
"it also means I have less money *pause*.... for food" -- that got me good haha
I love that you watch the random crap that pops up like anyone else
I'm just a big Matt fan@@kylenordling3504
10,000 points for creativity. Thank you for sharing the journey. I love what Petra said. You have an amazing group around you.
Thanks Craig! I do have a pretty good circle around me for sure. Very fortunate for the friends I have.
You got this man! So refreshing to see something like this that’s actually aligned with reality! I subscribed, hit the bell and will continue to watch! This is the series we all need!
Welcome to the videos! Glad to have you here 😄
Means a lot that you feel that from the video, thanks for sharing that with me 🙂
Cancel your credit card. You are not a credit card person. Start living within your means and get a 9-5 and do everything else after/before job.
You’re so blessed to have supportive friends and family
Very lucky to have their love & support for sure 🙏
Let's goooooo!! So good!
Thanks buddy! :)
Excited for this series keep it going.
Hey, Matt! Just saw your twitter post about this video and came to take a look. You're on the right track! Keep up with the youtube grind!
I'm so glad to see its not only me or my family that deals with our money in a similar manner that you do! Good luck Matt and indeed, if it is not for the people in our lives who show kindness, we would not make it. I hope to one day be in a position to help others too!
so pumped to watch this series the scoring was in tune the ad plug was smooth like a dolphin and the concept is real let’s gooooo 🎉
Thanks Hugo, always appreciate your support & thoughts 🙏😊
This is insane, Matt 🔥
Would have been a WHOLE lot more difficult going through this experience without you, Ethan. I appreciate you big time 🙏
Great content! Heartfelt, real, entertaining. Such a fun watch. Keep it up dude!
What a challenge, fire video and excited to see more
Great video Matt, cheering you on in this journey!! Best of luck 💪
From beginning to end, this mini-film (cause that's what it is) is thoughtful, clear, and engaging. I'm a subscriber now, and I'm eagerly awaiting the rest of this (and other) well-told tale(s)! ( and s /o Tay zonday for narration and posting :D )
Awe the Grandparents are so so sweet❤.. You can do it!! Budget more 😊
Yeah I love them very much 😊
you got this! this was a very fun video to watch but also very inspiring! i just know this channel is going to blow up
Glad to see that you figured out the main thing is that your rent is to damn high. Good video best of luck getting out debt.
Yeah that $2,040 was a huuge stress trying to pay that every month. Feels a lot more manageable now, but still looks of progress to make :)
This was awesome man you have a bright future ahead, keep moving forward and your going to have that debt paid soon enough. Great video Matt
Thanks Skyler! One day at a time, feels promising after seeing the response this video is getting :)
1. Really great video! 2. Don’t give up because you’re going to get the debt paid off eventually. You’re taking the right steps. 3. You’re right not to give up living your life even though you do, for now, need to watch the spending.
It's a balance for sure. I should stop travelling if I can help it though lol, that's probably been my biggest expense for sure
I believe in you man!! You got this!
Thanks Collin!
Entertaining video my dude! - I hope we get to see the next one soon
I better get crackin!
Great video Matt! Loved that you were trying a ton of different things out! You’ll get there soon! Just keep chipping away at it 😄
The presentation of this video from the intro narration, the editing, just everything, is so incredible! Good on you for tackling your debt and thank you for taking us along for the ride in such an entertaining way!
You got this! 🎉 keep making content like this, it was so engaging, loved it!
Will do! Thanks a bunch Amy :)
I love that you did portraits of people! That would definitely push my comfort zone lol
It was honestly so much fun! I would do it again just as a summer activity lol
Dude this is so inspiring
You really should’ve transferred your balance to a 0% interest rate card that would last for 18 months so you don’t have to worry about a minimum payment
Would be cool if you went to financial audit with Caleb hammer
I would 100% go on his show! I'm sure there's a lot I could learn from his harsh reality checks
I generally find Caleb's style to be a bit unrealistic and harsh, but in this case I think it's needed.
Vancouver's expensive, glad you're making steps in the right direction
It definitely can be expensive living here! Trying to make it work, slowly but surely :)
you got this brother, i believe in ya
Thanks buddy 🫶
Found you on threads, very fun video! Congrats! 🎉
Hey! Welcome over from Threads! Thanks :) Glad you like the video
Thank you for the honesty around your debt Matt, I am struggling with paying off my credit card and overdraft as well, it's a difficult but necessary task. PLEASE tell me that Tays narration is a Stanley Parable reference! Keep up the long form videos, they're fantastic. Looking forward to seeing another one next week ;)
Ah, I haven't heard Stanley Parable in a while! It is not! It's a reference to the movie (500) Days of Summer :)
Wish I could give some advice on the debt, but clearly I'm in no place to give advice. Just gotta take it day by day. Honestly though, editing this video made me really focus on all the areas that I didn't need to spend money or could have spent more time making money. Good to be aware of your spending habits & where your money is going on a regular basis (and remove any emotion from purchases as often as possible, it typically results in buying out of convenience or short-term joy over financial logic).
this is terrifc, thank you for this matt
Thanks!!
Very interesting and brave that you are documenting your journey and opening up on your debt and repaying process. And having lots of fun and learning experience along the way.
At one point before 2005 I owed more than $13K. Learned to reduce my expenses to live off 1/2 of my earnings each month and apply the 2nd paycheck to paying off the debt. Also starting to sell at eBay so that help bring extra money in. Wish you a quick journey to getting back to black.
I like the concept. Have debt: work to pay it off. Nice work.
THIS... is an awesome content!!!! I'm looking forward for your progress...
Thank you 🙏😊 I'm looking forward to it tooo!
This was epic! Such great storytelling. Keep it up!
Thanks Matt!
You've got this Matt! 🤍
Thanks Joe 🫶
My worlds just collided when Keltie showed up. So sick.
Cool! Yeah I'm very grateful for Keltie 🙏
This was a very well shot video. I expected you to have 400k+ subscribers. Well Done!

@macoywonder Imagine being his family
absolutely love the videos man
Thanks William :)
This video will blow up, very well done. Btw, which Casey Neistat video was that at 21:30?
It was a compilation of Casey Neistat bits haha 🫣 but it's a section from his video "Fat and Lazy" at 6:40. Great video
Incredible video Matt, looking forward to more :)
Thanks Archie :)
posted a whole movie lets goooo love it!!
Really great video Matt. Had an early Neistat feel, subscribed.
That's a great honour of a comment. I'll take it, thanks!
Great video! I hope you continue to grow financially and prosper.
I hope so tooooo! Honestly I've learnt a decent amount from this experience while filming, but also looking back on the footage, so I feel decent about the potential growth to come this year.
Keep it up man! I was very impressed with how confident you are while taking this on. If you have a pateron or any way to support, let me know! I’d love to be apart of helping you accomplish this challenge.
Great video! Captivating journey
Thanks Jamie 😁
Jeez Matt, the moment you had to pay for the new flight hurts... As an ADHD myself also living on the financial edge, I can feel your pain! How much money wasted for those distractions..🤦🏼♀️ but hey, we have the strongest will and grit I've ever seen! ❤ Keep going!!
Very cool video man! You're gonna make it far on UA-cam, and definitely paying off your debt haha!
I feel it, just gotta keep at it, slowly but surely!
Good work on keeping your promise
That intro🔥
This is awesome dude!
Hey Mitch! Good to see ya here 😊 Glad you watched it & liked it buddy 🫶

Hell yea matt!!!
MAAAAAAAAATT! I’ve never felt so nervous watching a video! I’m treating you to dinner next time I see you 😂
I will always gladly accept a free dinner from a friend!!
Good Luck. I have a budget google sheet that I love if you want it
You can do this!
This is fab! 🎉🎉
Thanks Emily!
Amazing video! Looking forward to watching more of your content in future. Keep at it!
Will do, thanks Jack!
Love the video! 👏🏼
Get him on Financial Audit
Such a creative and interesting video 😂 but boy you have to live off water and oatmeal if you wanna pay your debt off soon 😂
The champagne flutes 😹💀😭 my fav part
Haha, still on the fence if I should sell them or save them for events 🤔
I’m also aiming to pay off my cc and other misc. debt. I’m hoping to pay off about $10,000 sooner or later
Currently working on going from $14k-$10k myself, would love to hear what you learn or how you manage it if you're open to sharing :)
Omg please go on Caleb hammer’s show
alberta ganggg
Fire vid i love the realism and your way of doing things. I do think you could have more success just trying with uber & doordash at first. could definitely make $200-$300 per day and then start a business with that that can make you more.
35 MINS?! BRB MAKING FOOD, YES MATT!
Yup! It's a LONG one! Whatcha making??
@@MattMort the good old rice and chicken, I couldnt wait to watch so its still cooking as im watching rn hahah
If I were you I would focus on your editing/consulting gig
You should check out Caleb Hammer and be on his show!
I would love to be on his show, 100%
I loved this video but it stressed me out at the same time hhaha. For gigs, you shouldn't charge hourly, charge project based so you can optimize your time! And why don't you get a job? I guess you've probably heard that one before 🙈
Yeah I have heard it before lol, I've been looking into jobs, but they've been minimum wage jobs, going to start looking for a consistent Part-Time job around video-making or something.
Yeah I think I should move to a flat rate for some projects. I just find it tough to know exactly how long an edit will take me if I haven't worked with a certain client before, so I like doing hourly for the first one- BUT I could still have a general flat rate as my "going rate" so if it happens to take me less time, great, but if it takes me more- it's on me to learn for next time.
If you know of any jobs let me know!
When is the next video we need more
3:33 OUR GAMECUBE COLLECTION
It shall return when the time is right 🙏
Just watching the video right now and see you sold Super Monkey Ball for $25... that's worth over $100 CAD 😥
Daaamn, yeah I missed out with that one.. I find it tough to know the best prices for things. How do you find that out??
a legend
Matt Mort is my favourite guy
Love ya Quinn Pickering
lets goo matt
let's gooo maxton
This is the one
Thanks Miguel 🙏 I appreciate you watching it :)
Find a 0% balance transfer card with a few months of 0% interest.
11% is still an INSANE amount to be paying. A personal loan should have a lower rate than that.
Also, it might be time to not touch credit cards for awhile, or use them like debit cards. Launching a Patreon is fine, but realistically thst will not be a huge source of income for awhile. It seems like you have lots of good connections in the UA-cam space, use those to get more gig work, get your high interest debt down!
You talk about hunkering down to pay off the debt faster but wanting to have a life. There is a balance to this, it doesnt need to be one or the other.
I come back to check this channel every few months, and i hope the next video will be showing some good progress forward.
Yes. Have to eliminate fun for a little bit and meal prep/cook. I don't think I seen you cook one meal. Lol all good, many people don't cook. Maybe a meal service? No idea if it'll help but then you can just heat it up the food and continue to work on ideas to pay off debt instead of taking time so much time in the kitchen to cook. Maybe prep sandwiches for lunch at least, you know? But You got this! I literally paid off one credit card today. 😊
haha that's true, I didn't include any cooking in this video! I did have a few days that I DID cook, but I cut those out for time & flow of the story. I need to get more comfortable in the kitchen & cook some good meals more often. Food delivery was dang expensive, so I'm definitely on the side of home-cooked meals over eating out. (I say that as I just bought a burrito for dinner.... it's my first time eating out in a while, but I shouldn't have done it..)
And woah! CONGRATS on paying off your credit card! That's amazing :) Mind sharing a bit about how you paid it off?
Let’s be real, you should’ve skipped that high school reunion. That is a luxury that you couldn’t afford to do.
I'm glad I got to make it happen & experience it, but yeah definitely was a luxury more than a need need. Luckily I don't have any big reunions or events coming up that I'm organizing or travelling for in the near future!
100 points to the first person that can name the person I got to narrate the intro!
The narrator from Idiocracy
It sounds a bit like Tay Zonday tbh
@@haboombaby ding ding ding 100 points glenn coco!
That tshirt and black slacks combo would look better if the shirt was tighter and the sleeves were a little shorter. Good luck!
The black shirt? It's one of my favourite shirts! Looks pretty good & feels great :)
LEts Go matt
Yaaa Rheis!
Should have sold that juice instead of drinking it. You were on a role.
Just grow confidence in selling (your product isn't bad, you don't say it out loud) just focus on making money.
Keep that in your head... Make money. Spend less
Confidence baby, you got this. Edit more vids
For me, December 23’ $13K debt ➡️ February 24’ $2K debt
That's amazing! Good work :)
I'm open to learning if you're open to sharing how you managed it!
@@MattMort Thank you sir. It started with selling a vehicle that had a remaining loan value of $43K and used the equity as a kick start towards the CC debt. Then I cancelled everything, started cooking, stopped going out and used every available dollar towards what I owe.
