Exactly. Get a marble chess piece that’s the size of a normal sports trophy maybe 12 inches tall or even a little bigger, that they can have as the prize.
This is such low hanging fruit and the obviously correct trophy. A giant Queen for FPO and a Giant King for MPO trophy would be so sick

Funny, I feel I'm basically the only one who thought a hand made wooden chess board was actually a pretty neat reward. Put it on your coffee table at home and play a game of chess with friends. You're reminded the entire time of your accomplishment. It feels more useful than some random things I've seen. Overall though, I prefer the unique trophies over a standard one. If they all look the same you have to read it up close to remember where it was from or the story behind it. If it's something unique you can spot it across the room, not to mention it's a way better conversation starter than just a row of similar looking trophies. I respect the discussion overall though.

One of the crazy things that blows my mind is the good trophies you don't even get to take home. they just keep the same trophy every year so you don't even have anything to show for it.

Standard trophies could easily look like small metal disc golf baskets.
Most trophies are pretty ugly. You can’t use a team sport trophies as comparison. Look at the PGA. They have some real strange trophies. Majors would be the only one that I can see having a standard. One of the most iconic trophies is a green jacket.
Or the Claret Jug for The Open. Getting a replica of real deal that is still well made.

For what its worth, i agree. Its kind of a no brainer to have the DGPT have their own standardized trophies for their own events. It would solve so much of this debate
A great standardized trophy would be the dish/plate-style trophy, but in the shape of a disc.
The chessboard will be engraved with the winners names and remain with the course. The winners will get regular trophies to take home.

This is one solution that would make it easy. BUT these "fun trophy's" are fun! But their inherent worth isn't talked about at all so sadly they are just an order made by a TD from a vote of randos probably...
Think if these were from a special tree from either the Olympus OR one of the trees cut down at IDGC (WR Jackson) which have special meaning, or something old saved... They would be exclusive in some way.

Who is responsible for providing the trophy? The DGPT, the title sponsor, or someone else? When I first saw those generic boards without engraving, my first impression was it seemed like someone didn't know they were responsible for providing the trophies and they used those last minute as stand-ins...
I think if the trophy is unique, it should suffice. I also can't stop thinking of how many times you could achieve a ribbon growing up from tournaments. Huge upgrade!
Its an absolute no brainer IMO.
Be the change you want to see! Start a "Bodanza" trophy tradition with some of your big time youtube money (haha). I mean if its not too insane an ask but drop a couple hundred or so and get a bunch of standardized but not too crazy trophy's made for the big events this year and then just go present it to the winner when you can and put that "ceremony" up on your channel.
Screw the DGPT if they are going to drop the ball, use your platform to get the ball rolling for 2024 season. Who knows what it could become... Maybe you could get up there with Lombardi, Heisman, Stanley, Larry O’Brien and... BODANZA!
The primary sponsor of this last tournament sells chess boards. I guarantee these are chess boards that they sell on the regular.

I think it needs to be somewhere in the middle. I think for the majors, they need standard trophies. I think the other tournaments should keep it a bit more unique, but i think the tour needs someone in place to help with the design of the trophies for each event so it looks less garage sale and more trophy. They could have easily designed a trophy that looks like a chess piece that was clear it was also a trophy.

I like that fees across the board went up for everything in the scene and then they offered the cheapest possible trophy. I disagree with "standard" trophies, I like the uniqueness of each tournament, but these trophies were just awful.

Check out if you dont remember the trophies Mcbeth and Tattar won for 2022 worlds. DG world championships, the biggest tournament of the year, and the most wack trophy ever awarded. Imo that just makes the sport look silly
i don't necessarily mind the trophy for each event being a little different...however...the trophies have got to be legit trophies lol. each trophy on the PGA Tour, for example, is unique...but they're actual trophies. the lack of effort that was put into that chess board was such a joke. it just makes it feel like such an after thought.

Every trophy from the European Tour are insane! I’ve been saying this for so long, the USDGPT trophies suck, trophies aren’t necessary what we play for, but if there are gonna be given out, they should be legit! I can’t say I’ve seen a trophy from the USDGPT that I thought was dope besides The Beaver State Fling trophy that eagle got last season. Literally the only one I’ve seen that was legit on the USDGPT, and honestly it had everything to do with our local TD’s getting that trophy made, So the DGPT didn’t even have a big part in it. Regardless if we standardize it or not, it needs to be “professional” and “legit”. 99% of the time, its wack.

I clicked on this prepared to disagree. I think the kitschy trophies are neat and symbolize the events. And I assume the winners don't really mind because every time they look at it they are reminded of the high they were riding when they won it, plus each one is a conversation starter with a story behind it. But you made really good points and I have to agree with you.

I agree that some of the trophies are pretty lame in disc golf. To me, personally, the standardized trophy seems kinda bland. I'm a big college football fan and I like the concept of a lot of the bigger bowl games' trophy's. I know DG budgets aren't big enough for something that bougie, but something nicer than a chachki (sp?)
People wanna keep the garage looking trophies because they wanna keep it a hippie,grass root smoking the peace pipe kinda event. They don’t wanna let disc golf be a sport, those people wanna keep it a hobby and a family event. Disc golf will never be taken seriously if it keeps going the way it is. Bring on the standardized trophies and let’s see some growth in the sport.

Famous, remembered trophies all look like trophies. There are no well known trophies that don't look like trophies that I can think of.

Maybe we could just have a standardized enlarged minis or discs as trophies made out of wood or precious metals that are different between all the tiers of events we have, so it is still special to disc golf but also easily recognizable as to what you have accomplished
