Thank-you! I have a devil of a time with syncopation. Whenever I try to get each hand doing its own thing, in no time at all I fall back into "left-right-left" or (what I like to say) "tripping over my two left hands" (kind of like "two left feet" when somebody can't dance.) I'm going to have to follow what you are doing here, slowed right down (I love that UA-cam feature), with my bongo cajon and a shaker. This is going to be my go-to video exercise for the next bit. I very much appreciate all of your videos. Although getting up there in years, I love learning, and you are a great teacher. Keep it up!

Great lesson Kalani! I know what I'll practice for the next couple of days. But I find that I have to use my non-dominant hand for the downbeat, and my dominant hand for the syncopation. Any thoughts?

Glad you brought up the point that it is "reversible" ( especially at 8:54 ) because so many people learned only one way, the "easy way" which is the one that starts playing on the down beat. But most Brazillian chord changes and melodies are written on starting the "reversed" pattern so the downbeat is avoided. And there are some 'tricks' on how to enter into the rhythm the Brazillian way on instruments like tamborim, chavaquino(sp?), etc. that are very cool and handy. And of course this rhythm has infected almost all of Brazilian Samba music and Bossa and BrazillianJazz as well. Look at this one but go to about 7 minutes in where he explains the same concept and then gives the 'tricks' for entering the rhythm. ua-cam.com/video/6Mdu4O8ACAo/v-deo.html

Ok, We get it, Partido alto, No need to repeat it 1000 times. If he doesn't feel he need to edit this, Then it won't help you.

Ofer Zilberman Boring comment man.. keep it positive, just fast forward if you don’t feel like you have the time to watch it.. this stuff is free so just be thankful he is sharing this info...

I am thankful, But it's annoying that 60% of the comments here are about him writing "Partido alto" wrong in the title. Maybe, I don't know, Just enjoy the video instead of trying to lecture him?

Sorry I miss interpreted your comment!!! So sorry!! I thought you meant that Kalani didn’t need to repeat the rhythm a 1000 times and that the editing of the video was too long 😂. My apologies !! Hahaha so so sorry.
