The world needs more of this and less blah blah about politics. It takes 1 person given the chance to show that we are all adaptable together and together we can do amazing things

Thanks for sharing. I have a big heart for band. I used to be in band with autism. I am a percussionist. I even majored in music in my university, and my professors loved me.

It looks like a sort of modified, sideways recorder mouthpiece to compensate for the trouble she has forming a usual flute embouchure.

I marched in college with a dude who couldn't tie his shoes. He was a brilliant bass player. He made a decent living as a church organist. He played weddings and other events. The college really wanted him the n the orchestra. Dude absolutely refused unless he could march. I overheard the director tell the percussion section leader to slash the bottom heads of the bongos and stuff them with newspapers. I can still.see Arthur when he found out. HEY YOU GUYS!!

That’s great- though I fear that bullies will take that flute away and destroy it! No school can be trusted to protect the most vulnerable students!

Huh? There are a lot of amazing schools and incredible teachers across this big country-lumping everyone into your weird fantasy about bullies run amok is unfair and inaccurate. Exactly why would "the bullies" take HER flute? Regardless of the story you tell yourself about public school bullies, in this case, her dad works at the school as the band director. I presume he can be trusted to protect her.

Yeah I went to a safe and great school in Texas that cared about my disabilities in the 2000’s and early 2010’s because I graduated with a GPA right in the middle of my class’s ranking scores where I could’ve almost made it in the top 25%

@@daneekaplan4284 It doesn’t matter! I attended a so-called “Christian Day School” as a kid and got bullied constantly due to my “nonconformity (nobody knew anything about Autism back in the ‘70’s)”! Sorry, but I personally don’t know of any school that does not go along with my so-called “weird fantasy”! No school can be trusted- even if the kid’s mum or dad is a teacher/administrator! Sorry!

Im sorry you had that experience.
But not all disabled students have the same experience as you did. And you cant equate what happened in schools 50 years ago to today.

I went to a school with a bullying problem and even there, even the worst nastiest kids wouldn't have picked on a kid with down syndrome.
