Cyndi is rebelling against the idea that women should speak quietly, dress modestly, and live bland lives. She wants excitement, wild clothes, and big adventures.
Spot on!📍👍
Bingo!
And to 'Bop'
Yeah. Young women are taught to live lives of obligation, modesty, and respectability way before young men are given that kind of pressure. Dudes usually only hear that shit after they get married or have kids. Women hear it way earlier in girlhood. They aren't allowed to make mistakes, to act out, or to have wild and debauched evenings. Cyndi is speaking out against that, and on another level, she's also representing for her sister who was a lesbian and wasn't allowed to be herself at all.
80's rebellion.
I was a teenage boy in the 80s. To me, this song simply meant that girls are entitled to let loose and enjoy life. They should be permitted to do so without inhibition. Girls loved this empowering message and Boys loved that the girls felt empowered. How they chose/choose to have fun was/is irrelevant.
That was how we girls saw it too! It was empowering to have someone say out loud that girls are entitled to have fun too!
👏👏👏 well said sir!
Dam right.
Exactly!!
Amen! 🙌🙏
Fun is exactly what they're doing in the video. Singing and dancing, shopping and wearing crazy outfits. Talking on the phone, going out with other girls without the guys.
EXACTLY... No Dudes involved in the FUN😁
@@alexandraaaron9705 Yep. Dudes were def in the no fun zone.
I couldn't of said it better myself! 💯👊💜😁🎶
Exactly. If U wanna come along, great, but it's not about you, bois!
Pfft guys wanna have MORE fun than girls😎
A little back story on the guy playing her Dad famous Wrestler 'Captain' Lou Albano. Try, She Bop , When you were mine, Time after time, True Colours. She is Brilliant.
I was just going to mention Capt Lou , great to see others remember him too !
Before he really became famous Lou lived down the hall from my parents condo. More then once he was my babysitter in a pinch. Explains a LOT here lol...
@@RESET1776 What an awesome memory to have and share , I always heard he was a great guy. Met him once in the 80's at a WWF show and he was really cool to us kids ( we were about 14 then and my brother was 6 , he signed my brother's shirt and he still has that shirt somewhere on his wall. )

She tells you what girls do in the song "She Bop"
Yep
She's tells you what everybody does.
We all "Bop" ..maybe in the shower..maybe in bed..but we all "bop"
She sure does...she bops, he bops and we'll bop...lol....doesnt it even start with someone looking at a playboy magazine..lmao
@@katiepeters6146 yes.. A beefcake mag
One of my favorites as a kid. This isn’t about sex. Lol It’s about going out there and living your life and not letting others or society decide that life. Do more Cyndi! Love your reactions!
'Time After Time' is one of my all-time favorites!
the guy who plays her dad is "Capt Lou Albano", an old school wrestler and manager in the WWF of the 80's, so thats why she did a wrestling move on him. at he time this song was made, girls were expected to be good and stay at home, and noone batted an eye at boys doing whatever, so this was a sort of protest/rebellion anthem song for girls.
The funny thing is... it was originally written by a man about his womanizing ways and Cindy Lauper recorded it as a female empowerment anthem.
Rubberband Louie!
That's what I was going to say. Still fun, dancing song/ video you have to smile & start moving
I wanted to be Cyndi Lauper when I was a kid. She was so colorful.
Same!!!
Fun fact: That's her real mother. Side note: the album is called She's So Unusual.
Plus an old day wrestler.
@@christineandersonsarles7881 the wrestler is Captain Lue Albano.
That was a great video of the time, and WWF was so popular back then. I was hoping to see the rubber bands in his face.
"Time After Time" and "True Colors" are her most moving songs. "She Bop" is another fun one like this song.
Oh yes She Bop was awesome
I high(ly) recommend "She Bop".
My other favorite "All Through The Night".
he done true colors already...check it out if u havent seen it
@@MrNicky6 oh my days have just recommended that. I feel a bit stupid 🤣 for not looking for it first.
Mr. Video, alls Cyndi's sayin is girls just want to be free to be themselves and live their lives. Love me some Cyndi!
I looove this song, gils want to dance, flirt and eat without judgement
And it was written by a guy.
@@user-sm2ql7nq4l I bet he had great girl relationships ,lol.
@@maxinemcclurd1288 Have you listened to the original? He was like his mom was telling him girls just wanna have fun.
Prince?
@@ladygrinningsoul357 Not this time. Though Prince wrote some of the greatest songs ever, this is the original writer and singer. ua-cam.com/video/5aLNwOxPsjg/v-deo.html
She didn't saying nothing about 'getting with all types of dudes'. She's just gossiping in the phone with her multi-ethnic squad, dancing around, and putting on crazy outfits. And they probably ordered a pizza at some point. And they maybe did some chillin' with cool gay dudes, have a few drinks down at the gay bar, watch some drag performances and tear it up on the dance floor without worrying about getting groped by some asshole. That's how girls like that have fun.
We all know what fun is code for.
And then she went home to "She Bop" like a good girl.
@@TonsMoreCowbell Many things are fun.
@@klaptongroovemaster That's also fun.
Well, being from that generation I can say with certainty she was talking about ALL OF IT. Women being able to have fun in whatever way they chose without being judged by men and society. Whether it be having a girls night, chillin with gay dudes at drag performance (as you proposed) or even having a little fun in the bedroom with whoever they please. It’s about treating women as equal human beings, in all ways. To end slut shaming and inequality in life. That women weren’t just put on this earth to be virgins until they’re married and then become mothers. It’s about leaving us the hell alone in whatever we chose to do in our lives. She just did it in a positive way with a catchy tune. She’s always been a proud feminist & activist 💪❤️

awesome song!
Yes!! More Cowbell! 😂
I have a fever, and the description is more cowbell.
@@peteyn.y.7960 you beat me to it!! 🤣
I have been requesting this song and "Hair of the Dog" by Nazareth, multiple times now.
I can't love this song enough 😍🎶 20 years old when this came out, hanging out with my roommates, hittin' up the liquor store down the street, singing this so loud late nite on the city streets on the way back to the apartment.. with the neighbors screaming "shaddup!" from their windows 😄😎
Cyndi is beyond talented!! I've met her and seen her live 4 times. She's amazing. Plays so many instruments, is welcoming to all musicians. One of the shows I saw, she had a small local band opening. As an encore she called them back out and they all just jammed for an hour or so. It was so great. Writes and produces all of her own stuff. I am in awe of her.
Please look at some more of her stuff, and not just her 80s hits. 😎
Sade looking at you like "He a MESS!"
To truly experience Cindy listen to Time after time.
Weird Al did a parody of this called Girls Just Want to Have Lunch
😂 He sure did but it wasn't one of his best parodies IMO
Cyndi Lauper was HUGE in the 80's. She Bop, The Goonies 'R' Good Enough, Time After Time, True Colors, All Through The Night...
She was also in "We Are The World" with a huge group of other talented 80's singers.
Cptn. Lou Albano plays the father in this video. He was a professional wrestler in WWF.
In the 80s, as we teenage we would talk for hours on the phone with that young mind topics. This was all before the internet. This is how we connected. And we would just get together to just chill. We didnt shop online because we went to the mall. Go to the city and sightsee, hang out on the steps outside & etc. It is just having fun with the girls going to the mall & shopping, looking at the boys, listening to music, and just chilling. Not sex per se
She has a song called True Colors that she wrote for a friend that died from aids. That song brought about the rainbow symbol for the gay community that you see today. Beautiful song beautifully done. She always had fun, boppish type music and I didn't really appreciate her music back in the 80's until her song True Colors which became one of her biggest hits. I never realised she had an amazing voice until a few months ago. I saw her on UA-cam singing a song called At Last and I was blown away!
Cyndi said to have perfect pitch
I bet she bought that too along with the publishing rights for songs she never wrote.
Ok Mr. V, you get a pass on the meaning of this song because you were never a teenage girl! LOL 😂 She means stuff like dressing up, doing hair, make-up and nails, shopping. Slumber parties, getting together and dancing and singing with total abandon! Sure they wanted to date ....but they don't want sex, they just want to go out and have genuine FUN! Love her! And you too, even when you miss the meaning! 😄💝
She did not write this song. It was writren by a guy
That's cool. But it doesn't change the meaning. 😄 But I bet that man had to take a whole lot of cold showers before he figured it out! LOL 😄😂
@@lisas6450 And then they go home and "She Bop" like a good girl.
@@sueboatfield4330 At that age, we are all looking for THAT someone. That someone should be someone you have FUN with!

Whoever came up with that thing needs to roast in hell. I've lit one on the burner ring of an electric stove before.
I loved this song as a preteen in the 80s. Cyndi Lauper was a spitfire! Back then. She was one of the original grunge, punk rocker artist. #80s4life ❤
An anthem for getting ready to go out. Back in the day!
“I drove all night” live to hear hear the most powerful voice most people have never heard before. I’ll look for a link.
Love her version
Yeah i agree her version is awesome !👌
I Drove All Night, She Bop, True Colors, Time After Time...she is a beautiful soul. I loved her and Jeff Goldblume in the movie Vibes.
She is a miracle! Who in the world can do that with their voice? In 300 years, every girl in the universe will still be singing this song. She went on to sing so many hits with her unique voice and style. Listen to 'Time After Time' and 'True Colors' and on and on. I saw her in concert 3 times and she can rock the frickin house! She is one for the ages!
The secret girls talk in blips 😂.
It's scary, knowing that this song is 38 years old this year.
Buy the way, I'm 65 and still just want to have fun!🎉🎉🎉😃
Why you always thinking it's about sex? They just wanna have fun.
And they NEVER "She Bop" either.
In his defense , we're guys , we can't help it that it's hard wired in our DNA. It's how we survived as a species .........

Yes! Yes they do.
Wait, The Hooters? The band that did "And We Danced" and "All You Zombies"? Holy ffff, I never knew.

Cyndi Lauper has one of the cutest speaking voices EVER! She also wrote the music for the stage show 'Kinky Boots' She's extremely underrated. True Colors is a beautiful song too - it's a song for the LGBTQI+ community. She was a rebel in the 80's and is all for women empowerment.
"50 WAYS TO LEAVE YOUR LOVER" by Paul Simon--:)
Spoiler alert: He doesn't actually list fifty ways and I felt cheated.

EXCELLENT, timeless song. Which you will totally love!
“Some boys take a beautiful girl and hide her away from the rest of the world”
Happy new year! Love Cyndi Lauper! Her song All through the night is another of my faves - But she's done so many good songs it's always hard to choose!
The amount of joy this song still brings to my mom is incredible. You can tell how empowering this song was, especially back when it first came out.
Girls do want to have fun ,but you boys are welcome to join in !
You just made me think of a song:
We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off by Jermaine Stewart. It’s Brilliant!

Funny thing is it's a cover from a male singer who wrote it.
The warmth of this track has improved with age. Cyndi's energy really shines. So glad it's getting the sensible credit it probably should have had at the time, even though it was a chart topper.
This song is one of the best covers of all time and she did such an amazing job most people don't even know this is a cover.

"50 WAYS TO LEAVE YOUR LOVER" by Paul Simon--:)
This is one of the first music videos I remembered and loved as a toddler in the early 80s. Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Cyndi Lauper shaped my musical childhood.
She is so adorable that sometimes you forget what a great voice she has. Her live cover of "At Last" is simply beautiful. Wishing you all the best in 2021!
The girls are acting like a fool in the middle of the street that looks fun as shit
My favorite song by her is “Money Changes Everything”
Yes! That’s so great! 💜
Cindy Lauper - wrote the title track to the Movie Goonies. She’s a national treasure.
Shes a Rebel, quirky, so much fun, Love her, Unique voice...A legend...Brilliant, Thanks, Mr. V Peace
This came out when I was in high school. And it seemed that every high school girl wanted to be Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Cindy Crawford, or Pat Benatar. Or, in the case of me, I was Allison's character from The Breakfast Club, yup, I was the weird girl in high school. The girls who just wanted to have fun dressed like Cyndi Lauper, the slutty girls dressed like Madonna, the fashionable yet sophisticated types dressed like Cindy Crawford, and the rocker/dangerous types dressed like Pat Benatar. There really was only one Pat Benatar type girl in my high school, and she was famous for setting the lockers on fire.
Hell yeah... He needs to do a Pat Benatar song ....and Joan Jet
@@vhonn95 Another vote for Joan Jett How about "I Don't Care About My Bad Reputation"
Guys still find empowered women 'scary' lol... Way to go Cyndi! She was in the We are the world video as well.
PS (EDIT) I'm not hating on Mr. Video :) Keep up the great content!
Please explain what you mean by 'empowered'?
No room for feminism on this channel we’re not trying to hate on each other here
@@pierreo33 Women who are confident, especially in controlling their life and claiming their rights as per this song, Cyndi also defys the norms that society places on women in all ways including her style. Shes outspoken, creative and loud in many ways. Strong women are often called Scary, intimidating, angry and even worse words. You should look it up. Is English your first launguage?
@@dwightritchie2069 Was not hating, and whats wrong with feminism? Why are you equating feminism with anger? Mr. Video can speak for himself if he is offended. I am sure he is open minded enough to take a valid opinion.
Go watch his reaction to We Are the World. His eyes got all big when she sang. He's doing this one because the Cindy Lauper comment got a lot of likes (popular demand).
CYNDI ALSO OWNED A WOMANS WRESTLING TEAM WHILE MAKING HIT RECORDS AND TIME AFTER TIME IS MY FAVORITE
Cyndi Lauper had such powerful vocals. I don't think she ever got the credit she deserved.
I remember hearing this on the radio and dancing around like a crazy person when I was about 5

This is the Female National Anthem! Perfect New Year song! "Time After Time" "Change of Heart" and "All Through the Night" are really good too.

“She Bop” please- And “bop” isn’t a dance in that song either- SPECIAL meaning- 😁✌️✨
Cyndi Lauper´s all through the night and good enough, is also good songs
How could I forget "All through the night"? Another good one!
I had such a crush on her in the 80's. The voice and that little hiccup she does. Not to mention she's pretty easy on the eyes.
The guy at the end with the tux and flowers is Steve Fobert (Little Stevie Orbit) who was just coming into his own at this time, and has done some great work as well. This was such a fun time in music!
I love how you mimic the dances in all of your reactions. lol.
Make your day, Tom Jones treat her right, the dancing will make your jaw drop

Cindy Lauper is an icon of the 80s, she came to my country twice, she is very funny, she is heard more on the radio than Madonna
I love ❤️ that you started this year with Cyndi Lauper! Big influence on expressing girl power for GenX girls.
While some girls wanted to hooch it up like Madonna...
Cyndi made it possible for us awkward girls to be carefree, wild and creative! I was pick my freshman year to paint a mural of her on my High School cafeteria wall. Thanks Cyndi🥰

Back in the 80’s, having fun meant hanging out with your friends, shopping, sleepovers, going out to parties and singing and dancing.
It was a different time.
Gotta say, beside all the other fun, YES, we girls like to have fun "horizontally", too. And I'm glad you're not immediately judging this.
Girls and boys wanna have fun. Go out, chill, drink, smoke, talk, have fun in the bedroom. Then we would have no crimes and hate and trouble 😁

You saw her in the We are the world- USA for Africa 😀girlfriend can sing....no joke. 🎼🎶🎶🔥😎🎤80’s videos are the best......😂😂True Colors....her best song imo. It’s beautiful ❤️
I first discovered Cyndi when she was part of a Rockabilly band called Blue Angel. Her voice was so unique, I couldn't get enough.
She later went on to have recurring roles in tv shows like Bones. She opened a home in NYC for troubled gay and trans teens. She wrote the score to a Broadway show called Kinky Boots, and she now does a commercial for an Eczema medication (can't remember the name).
You should try her version of the Etta James classic "At Last" ..... she was extremely popular but underrated by the masses as a vocalist.
